2020 Winter Blast 31 & Pyro in the Park February 13 - 16 T he Winter Blast is a major event for the Western Pyrotechnic Association (WPA) and it has been in Lake Havasu City for an incredible 31 years. Although providing immense entertainment for spectators here that is not the main intention of the WPA. This is merely a by-product and our good fortune. Winter Blast is a trade show and convention for their very large organization of pyrotechnic enthusiasts. Over 700 members attend this event and seminars, and test their combinations of explosive materials by shooting them off. This shooting is where the public exhibition comes into play. The participating members of the WPA formulate ingredients into various “shells” under strict safety regulations, and specific shell size is limited to the level of license that the participant holds. All explosives are brought into SARA Park under strict control of the Federal ATF department, and stored on site until the members purchase it for their exhibitions. No one but WPA members are allowed in the areas where the materials are stored, sold, mixed or shot. All materials must be shot off in SARA Park, none can be transported away. This can make for a spectacular show Sunday night, especially if wind or weather has limited any of the other nights’ shooting. Spectators are the beneficiary of this super exhibition. Starting Thursday night about 7:30 pm the WPA members will begin shooting off these amazing shells and about that same time each night through Sunday, ending about 10 pm. You may not leave SARA Park until the fireworks display ends. You can park by entering SARA Park off of Highway 95 south of town for $8.00 per car (or pick up) per day regardless of the quantity of people in your vehicle. You will park in an available parking place and may watch the aerial “show” from your car or the park. The viewing is great from most anywhere in SARA Park. Please note that there are no coolers, no alcohol, no fi****ms, no personal fireworks, no refunds & no pets allowed. Eye protection is recommended. Parking gate opens at noon Thursday and Sunday, 10 am Friday and Saturday. You may not park on the Highway. When parking is full the entrance will be locked. Pyro in the Park is the free family festival area. Located in Baseball diamond #4, nearest to the Speedway it opens Friday at 3 , Saturday and Sunday afternoons at noon. There will be food, beer and T shirts available for purchase. The band “Evenstar” will be performing live on the Radio Central Stage until the fireworks light up the night sky! The admission here is free and you may bring your chair and stay with your family and watch the shows for free from Pyro in the Park. It is a good viewing area. For the best viewing, and the best opportunity to view the ground pyrotechnics as well there is grandstand seating inside Havasu 95 Speedway. These seats are $8.00 each (children under 6 free with paid adult). These seats go on sale and seating opens at 3 pm Thursday, Friday and Sunday and Saturday at noon. Please note that there are no refunds, no in and outs, no reserving seats, no coolers, no pets, no fi****ms, no personal fireworks and no alcohol. Food and beer are available for purchase inside the Speedway. Eye protection is recommended. For updated information go to www.FireworksHavasu.com
