Story time!
Lars, my not even 1.5 year old problem dog child had a severe allergic reaction earlier this month (swipe to the end 🥴). I took him to the emergency vet Saturday morning and saw some temporary improvement followed by an even scarier rebound in symptoms by the afternoon. was out of town. I had a wedding also out of town and had rented a nearby airbnb for Lars stay at while I worked. Too worried to leave him behind and without local friends to call, I did what any helicopter mom would do and brought him to my wedding.
Wedding photographers lose sleep over the what-ifs. We bring back up gear. We shoot on dual card slots. We pack 4 times the batteries we know we’ll need. We strap our cameras into seatbelts on the way to events. We have networks of trusted vendors to reach out to in case of emergencies. But last minute mystery anaphylaxis wasn’t on my list.
I showed up to Ellen and Clinton’s wedding with my uninvited guest, embarrassed and a little shaken. I explained our situation and was immediately put at ease by their understanding and genuine concern. Lars listened to classic rock in my truck while they shared their vows on a still, overcast August day.
Forever grateful for the opportunity to work with the kindest couples - who embrace the bad weather, the mishaps and the occasional (once in a decade) four-legged crasher.
