Before it became a cozy retreat, it was an office where deals were made, letters were written, and plans took shape 💼 Now, the only business done here is unwinding after a long day, with soft lamplight and a view of the hill country sunset. Funny how time changes a space, but the feeling of purpose lingers.

Love built this house. 🏡💞

John Markward, a German immigrant, arrived in Lampasas, TX, in 1856 with big dreams. After years of hard work, he purchased land and built a small cottage—but his heart belonged to something, or rather someone, even greater.

He fell for Adelphia White, the daughter of his friend Major Martin White. When she declined his proposal, John made a promise: he would build the most beautiful home in town if she agreed to marry him. In 1881, with The Adelphia complete, she finally said yes. A home, a love story, and a legacy still standing today. ✨
