This Saturday at 10am is “AN 80’s CHRISTMAS PARADE” held by AV CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE. This is the first time the parade will be held in Lancaster since Palmdale and Lancaster chambers merged their holiday parades. Expect this parade to be much longer than their previous BLVD Christmas parades.
Our bookstore has a winter vendor pop up from 12-6pm. However, our doors will be open by at least 9:30am. Come by and enjoy a joyous and festive holiday parade with your family and friends.

The Antelope Valley Chambers of Commerceand CCity of Lancaster, CA – GovernmentChristmas parade is back on The Blvd!

“An 80’s Christmas” Parade is this Saturday December 2, 2023, starting at 10:00 am until approximately 1 p.m.

The following streets will be closed starting at 5:30am, until the conclusion of the parade:

15th Street West - Newgrove to Lancaster Blvd.
Lancaster Blvd - 15th Street West to Yucca
10th Street West - Jackman Street to Oldfield St
Sierra Highway - Jackman Street to Milling Street

Closures will also include surrounding side streets.

We have four book signing events scheduled for 2024 with more to come:

INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY on Saturday, April 27. This event will feature a 12-author signing at our Lancaster bookstore. Fiction, nonfiction, all genres.

LOVE AND DEVOTION on Saturday, June 22 in San Diego’s Gaslamp District. This is a 70-author romance signing event. Our bookstore will be selling books for traditional authors.

KAT T. MASEN signing on Saturday, July 6 in our Lancaster bookstore. Kat will be traveling in from Australia, and if you’re not attending Readers Take Denver or Book Bonanza this will be the only bookstore signing she will be doing in the U.S. Kat will be joined by 11 romance authors.

BOOKSTORE ROMANCE DAY on Saturday, August 17 will feature a 12-author romance book signing at our Lancaster bookstore.

We will also be scheduling 1-2 LOCAL AUTHOR signings next year.

Our project for today is an emergency repotting of our 16 African violets. It’s the wrong time of year to do this, but they need help. Soil is yucky and they all have long necks. Gotta do it. Wish us luck.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We hope you have a fabulous day with your friends and family. We’ll be open tomorrow, Friday, from 12-8pm.
I will sneak in later today to take care of my plants though. It’s gotten so cold that they need to be pulled away from the windows and redistributed around the store. 😝 These aren’t even all the plants. I’ll probably stay to watch a movie at Regency. They are currently playing Wish, The Hunger Games prequel, and Trolls. Hope to see you soon.

I know it’s a bit late to post today’s hours but our doors will stay open till 7pm. Tomorrow, Wednesday, we’ll be open an extra hour, so we’ll be here from 12-7pm.
I work with the kindest importers. One of them gifted me these slightly damaged brass singing bowls to use as displays, rather then throwing them out. Grateful!

It was a crazy day yesterday as we had 11 artisan vendors for our SHOP LOCAL event. The BLVD was a hive of activity. Today we have two crochet artisans selling their woolie creations. They’ll be here till 6pm.

Great news! Our BOOK CLUBS will restart in January. We’ll have monthly meetings and munchies for our BLOOM BOOKS, INDIE ROMANCE, WHAT’S HOT NOW and MYSTERY book clubs. Come in and talk to us, as we try to decide the best days and times for each get-together.

BOOK RESCUE: I had a gentleman come in a few days ago to see if I wanted some books. They were going to be tossed in the dumpster, if I couldn’t get them right away. I generally don’t pick up, but he said they were really good condition cookbooks. So off I went to pick up cookbooks and also found some Native American books. Happy I took a chance and picked them up. It would’ve been sad to see them tossed in the garbage.
Sunday update. Taking the day off, so we’ll be closed today. We’ll be back open on Tuesday. Have a great weekend everyone.

Well, it looks like I’m staying open late tonight. Noticed the lights were on at LPAC and that the box office was open. Richard Marx is playing next door at 8pm and the last movie, The Marvels, goes in at 10pm. So our building doors won’t close till 10:15pm. Fingers crossed people wander in tonight.

Our multi-pronged attack has begun. It’s gonna be a dusty Monday as we pull pretty books from storage to bring to the store while also moving boxes of books from the bookstore to our home garage.

Even though we’re usually closed Mondays, we’ll be in and out of the bookstore all afternoon. We’ll be moving boxes of books to our garage so we can make room for more mysteries and to move our romances back to where they originally were. This might take all week for us to get it done. Projects never end and there’s really never a day off when you run a bookstore. 😩

Our mystery section has exploded! Just six weeks ago we went from four to five filled bookcases. Now we’re ready to fill a sixth. At the rate we’re going I see a seventh bookcase being filled up by the end of the year. Our ultimate goal is to fill all nine bookcases in this aisle.

Sharing what many indie bookstores are feeling!

As booksellers and book lovers, we know there’s nothing more exciting than the day an anticipated release hits the shelves! We’re eager to read titles like “Iron Flame” ourselves, and more importantly our passion is sharing the love of reading; when you come pick up pre-orders from us, we’re just as excited as you are.

But today we wanted to share some real talk about release dates.
We know that some big box stores have been putting out hot titles early. They do this to unfairly get ahead of the competition. Did you know that there are hefty fines associated with putting out a book before its street date? Those fines are enough to cripple a small indie bookstore, but the big guys can take the hit for the sake of selling without competition. It’s similar to the method of Amazon selling books at a loss to elbow out competitors.
Practices like this don’t just hurt the booksellers themselves; they keep money out of local economies. Communities like Madras need their local businesses, and local businesses need their communities.
We get it; we know what it’s like to be dying to dive into your next read, and the temptation to pick it up early when big stores put it out before the shelf date. But as your local indie bookstore, and your neighbors, we’re asking you to remember the power of your purchasing decisions. Waiting to purchase locally instead keeps bookstores and money in your community. We know the books that customers are excited about, and we work hard to make sure we have them on the release date (and don’t forget you get 10% off preorders!) We appreciate our community and our customers’ willingness to wait until the street date for their books. And we’d love to recommend another book while you wait!

TGIF Readers, we’re open today from 12:30-8:00pm.
Our used book section is filling up quicker than we had hoped. Unfortunately, it’s because we’ve been really slow. Most of our used books are half priced, minimum $2, unless it’s out-of-print plus hard to find. We also have carts with reading copy only books for .50 and bargain books for $1.50/$1.99. All of these books have been cleaned with rubbing alcohol.

We’re getting AV Cryo Candy to sell yummy treats in our bookstore! So excited. Their candy should be in stock by this weekend.
