Just a few more images of the wonderful alliums in all their glory—can you spot Elly camouflaging among the flowers?
Another reason to love alliums is their incredible ability to attract pollinators. These blooms are truly bee magnets, bringing life and energy to the entire ecosystem of my garden. Their presence not only adds beauty but also supports the health and vitality of our natural surroundings.

Can’t get enough of peonies? Neither can I!
With names like Sarah Bernhardt and Shirley Temple, they are truly extravagant stars of my garden right now!
While peony plants are long-lived, their blooms are fleeting, so we hurry to savor their beauty.
Want your cut peonies to last longer? Keep them in a cool room away from direct sunlight. Additionally, re-trim the stems and refresh the vase water every few days.

I’m often asked about my favorite flowers, and whilst I cannot pick one – there are a few striking blooms that I particularly like using for my floral arrangements. One of them is Allium schubertii.
Allium schubertii is an allium like no other. Its unique long pedicles grow in all directions, sprouting delicate rose-purple flowers. The effect is so seductive that they add a striking effect to any flower arrangements - although I haven’t seen them used often! And they last so well in the vase.
Grow Allium schubertii in well-drained soil, in a sunny spot. It’s not fully hardy and in colder regions should be mulched. Alternatively, it can be grown in pots too!

This past week, my attention was drawn away from gardening to a much more urgent matter.
One of my beloved horses, now enjoying his retirement, suddenly needed emergency care. We spent a night at the equine hospital, and I’m relieved to say he’s now recovering and regaining his strength. The scare reminded me just how deeply I cherish our time together and made me reflect on the preciousness of life.
As we head into the weekend, I’m feeling profoundly grateful for the recovery and for all the moments I’ve been able to share with my horse over the years.
I hope your weekend is filled with the presence of those you love and the peace of knowing they are safe and well. Take a moment to appreciate the simple joys and the company of loved ones.

Did you know that whilst hydrangea was first cultivated in Japan, the ancient hydrangea fossils were found dating back to 40-65 million years ago in North America!
In my own garden, l’ve found the perfect spot for my hydrangeas where they’re shielded from direct sunlight. They thrive in a tranquil corner, being part of the spot where I love to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. It’s amazing to think about the ancient origins of these flowers as I sit among them, feeling connected to a time long past.

Did you know why blue and purple are most rare in flowers?
To make these colors, flowers need forms of anthocyanins – that’s water-soluble flavonoids, that are somewhat unstable.
There is a trick I’ve learnt to retain blue flower colour: water your blue-flowered cultivars preferably with rainwater, which we have plenty here in Washington!

I adore growing Darwin hybrid tulips. They are classically shaped and create a stunning kaleidoscope of colors.
Standing tall in my garden, they bring a sense of grandeur.

Time to introduce my four-legged companions, as you will see a lot of them following me around the garden tasks!
Meet Sebastian, with his dapper black and white coat, and Sophie, in her stunning pure white. My delightful Standard Poodles are exceptionally intelligent, gentle yet protective and are naturally regal.
While they might not be the most helpful in the garden, their enjoyment of the flowers is evident and brings an extra smile to my day!
And if you go to the stories, you will see the new addition to the family. Little Arthur is joining us at the week-end!

One of my fondest childhood memories is hiking with my family through the snowcapped Alps of Germany and Austria, gathering wild flowers along the trails.
The first flower to make a lasting impression on me was the rare Alpine blossom Edelweiss - a small and delicate bloom with velvety, white petals. This flower was believed to be gathered by courageous men braving the steep and rugged conditions to gift the precious blooms to their loved one. A sign of True Love.
My Mother often wore an Edelweiss pendant around her neck - now a cherished keepsake honoring our German heritage which I hold close to my heart.
With this bloom, the Love Story began between me and flowers.
