The Old Barn building was designed and built approximately 40 years ago by our father, Melvin. One of 11 children, his family always enjoyed making music and dancing. In his later years, he missed the old time socials and the occasional dances held at neighbors’ and school buildings throughout the countryside. At that time, just about the only way to experience ‘live’ music was in bars. The drinki
ng and general noise and activity associated with that lifestyle were not something in which he was willing to participate. Yet he loved the social and physical activity of square dancing and the occasional two-step and waltz. The original structure was built in the early 70’s. Melvin’s structure design was reminiscent of a 1930’s dance hall. A remodel in the 1980s enlarged the auditorium area and stage. In 2010 the property was turned over to son, Randall. He envisioned more than just a dance hall, and the decision was made to provide an entertainment facility geared more toward family and private functions. That renovation included major upgrades to the auditorium and lighting, snack bar (now a caterer’s kitchen), bathrooms, safety equipment, and heating and cooling. Additionally, a new sound system and retractable 9x12 movie screen with projector, and full stage curtains were added. The original homemade bench seating was replaced with antique oak church pews from the North Georgia hills. They are identical to the ones at the famed Ryman Auditorium. These are permanent to the auditorium, but available for limited rentals. New padded seating and some lounge seating were added, along with upgraded tables. An antique 5’diameter wagon wheel light fixture now adds to the barn atmosphere. Future plans are to add a casual outdoor entertainment area and entertainer’s greenroom. The Barn facility has approximately 4,000 square feet under roof. Our 2700+ square foot auditorium will accommodate 250 persons seated at tables. Vehicle parking is convenient. We have hosted concerts, family and school reunions, birthday parties, weddings, receptions, and dinners. Some of our guests are 3rd generation visitors.
