What a special night celebrating the Debut of Mahalia! Thank you to the Abad Santos Family for choosing us to be part of their celebration and for making us feel like family!
What is a Filipino Debut? It’s a young woman’s coming of age 18th Birthday Party. We have been booked to DJ for quite a few Debut’s recently, so we wanted to share a few tips on how to hire the right DJ for your Debut.
DJ Tips for a Filipino Debut:
1. You need a professional Emcee. Between the Grand Entrance, 18 Roses, 18 Candles, and 18 Treasures, that is up to 80 names that need to be announced correctly.
- Some of those names will not be correctly pronounced without a Filipino accent, so there’s also that. Your DJ/Emcee needs to be good at accents.
Any DJ and Emcee will tell you that both of these things is no easy feat.
2 We hear, “We just need a DJ to play music.” a lot when people inquiring about DJ services. When you are playing specific songs for the: Cocktail Hour, Dinner, up to 18 songs for the 18 Roses, 18 Candles and 18 Treasures, fading in & out of music for the 18 Candles and 18 Treasures to prevent awkward silences, Special Performances, and the right music for Dancing.
There is Coordination, Timing, and miscellaneous instructions and announcements your DJ/Emcee is juggling while playing the RIGHT music. So let’s throw that misconception that you “Just need a DJ to play music” out to a galaxy far far away. 🪐
3. You will need to plan (If you don’t have a Planner) and discuss all these details with your DJ prior to your event. A Debut is Program, Detail, and Timing heavy and your DJ/Emcee will be heavily involved in every aspect. You can’t get to the dancing & fun if you are so far behind that there is no time left for it.
So if you want your Debut to go smoothly and stress free, give us a call so we can chat about how we can help you!
Fun Fact:
We have been Planning & DJing for Debuts for the past 21 years since 2003! That’s where we met and where our love story began! Should we share that story?
