More replacements for our Little Mermaid rental! These princess dresses are all worn out after 6 years of rentals, so I created replacements for them. Color and sparkle make them as fun and zany as the princesses vying for Prince Erik’s hand through a singing contest. Shout out to our original princesses Sydney, Afton, Angela, Monica, Carly and Diana!!

Whew! 2023 is off to a bang! We’re working on a whole new plot for The Little Mermaid and we’ve had a lot of fun with the sea creatures! These are a 100% collaboration between my hubby and I - I sew, he crafts to put it simply.

Many thanks to my models - Dane, Monica, Holly and Chloe!!

As you may have noticed, my daughter Piper is my go-to model for my creations. Piper is leaving this weekend to move to Japan where she’ll be performing at Universal Studios in Osaka. I’ll miss her desperately, but I’m so excited for her! I thought I’d share some of her greatest hits!

Yep, I’ve been busy! It’s Fairy Time!!

I had a lot of fun with this Tink Inspired look for Princess Parties USA - love the appliqués and floral as well as the unique peplums to create the traditional hemline shape.

Oh, and apparently fairies are generational in my family! Check out a Tink Fairy Costume I created for myself when I was in the fairytale party business… I’m guessing this is around 2009, and my daughter Piper side by side! Such fun! And wow, have my resources and costumes come a long way!

When we’re together…. It’s my favorite time of year!

Elsa is my favorite! I will create her whole wardrobe someday…

For now, here’s my take on her lovely look from Olaf’s Frozen Adventure. I love the rich velvet and the gorgeous jewels. And Piper said it’s super comfy to wear - bonus!

As long as there’s Christmas…

I’ve always wanted to create my take on Belle’s Holiday Gown! So this year I did!

And, as a bonus, all the fabrics and materials (except the ribbon you barely see under the flowers) were fabrics I bought for other projects or clearance that I put together from my stash to make this dress! We love a thrifty gown!

World Princess Week! … here’s a sampling or princess gowns I’ve created over the years!

I made my first princess gown in 2003 and started my Princess Performing Business which I continued until 2015! Though that time I made princess costumes for companies all over the world, and moved into theatrical costuming where I created costumes for Ariel, Fiona and Belle (several times over for this beauty!)

I continue to create theatrical costumes as well as princess performer costumes for Princess Parties USA!

I’m not accepting commissions at this time, FYI!

Created some replacements for our Little Mermaid rental show. Always fun and a little weird to go back and try to re-create something! (Last photo is from the original production on the gorgeous Monica Johns!)

Credit for the Flotsam and Jetsam puppet heads as well as Triton's armor goes to Steve Huntsman! He also painted the shell bra's and fabricated the side accents. We make a great team!

Let’s take a look at one of my favorite characters to be inspired by! I love the silhouette of Sleeping Beauty and has fun playing with it to creat this gorgeous gown!!

They always look better on a real person! I’m so lucky to have a model in house, my daughter Piper! She wears my princess costumes and does character appearances for Princess Parties USA! I’m just really happy with how this one turned out. And I had to do it in the middle of my big project that I just finished yesterday.
More coming soon!

I’ve been back in the costume studio pretty much full time and I have so much to share! While I’ve had a big project I’ve been working on, first up and hot off the machines is my newest Rapunzel gown!

I recently created several Princess gowns of my own design for a tea party company I ran for a while, and I’ve kept them for my daughter to continue using for Princess parties and I was excited to add this Rapunzel to the wardrobe.

Rapunzel is ALWAYS a struggle to find the right colors - and as much as I love sparkle, one must be careful because the wig is no joke! I found a great balance with an overlay on the bodice with lot of interest and lining it with a sequin sparkle. The skirt has an overlay with a bit of sequins but it passed the snag test. Overall I’m thrilled with how it turned out, I’ll just be looking to add a few more flowers to the skirt at some point.

Rapunzel is one of my favorites! I love the colors and that it’s not a traditional gown.

This was another one for Princess Parties USA and Lauren, the owner, went shopping with me for the fabrics. The girl loved her sparkle and I was happy to oblige! Her bodice has 2 layers of sequin that still results in subtle sparkle, and the sleeves and skirt inset are this gorgeous iridescent sequin on a pleated base which adds some fun texture. The floral accents on the skirt are sequin appliqués created from another fabric and add just the right amount of pizazz!!

The last photo is a flashback to the very first Rapunzel gown I made 11 years ago, back when I was a princess myself! I remember sewing it up with the lyrics to “When Will My Life Begin” taped to my wall and the song on repeat so I could learn it in time for my scheduled party! Also, not to brag but I made my wig so that it would light up!! Soooo extra. Lol!

I wasn’t planning on sharing anything today, but my hubby posted a memory with this photo today and it gave me all the nostalgia feels!

This is from a production of Month Python’s Spamalot we were involved in back in 2014. Steve, my husband, is on the left as Lancelot and my friend Michael Rossinsky is on the right as Prince Herbert.

I remember fabric shopping for this show and we came across this insane embroidered velvet in white and pink! And it was cheap, so we snatched it all up and it became Lancelot and Herbert’s wedding attire for the finale! We also used the pink for the curtains in Herberts “tower” which made a fun nod to curtain clothes alà The Sound of Music.

And omg, that fur! It was actually left over from The Drowsy Chaperone a few years earlier.

I can’t take credit for the gorgeous doublet or crown Steve is wearing, they were pulled from the production company’s resources, but I’m taking ALL the credit for Herberts crazy headpiece.

(Steve’s probably pretty grateful that I can’t find a pic of the very sparkly codpiece I made for him for this show... I’ve gotten to dress my hubby in the craziest things over the years!)

Well it’s been 7 years of Frozen! This memory of my first Anna and Elsa costumes popped up this morning, and then I thought I’d share a recent Anna coronation gown I did, both for the same client all these years apart.

I’ve done dozens of the originals over the years. I have a love/hate relationship with the Frozen costumes - I love the movie and the colors, but I’m annoyed by how detailed they are! Doing the older gowns like Cinderella,
Snow White... etc leave a lot more room for creative license. But with the computer animated designs, they can add so much detail that there’s a lot going on!

This Anna Coronation gown was a process. It’s just a lot and working with velvet isn’t my favorite, but I’m thrilled with how it came out and so was my client.

Oooh, I’ve been slacking!

Here’s a fun one - I came into an opportunity to purchase back a whole set of Princess costumes I had sold many years ago, and then my friend decided to start a Princess business (Princess Parties USA) so I sold them to her! But they needed some rehab. So here’s how Cinderella ended up. I wish I had taken before pics, but it was just a rather plain gown.

I replaced the sleeves and peplum (that’s the swoopy over skirt) with a really sparkly fabric that unfortunately doesn’t really photograph well. Then I added some godets to the front (also sparkly), a sequined appliqué to the front and a bow. Now I’m not a big fan of bows, but I’m pretty happy with how this one came out and it really is a lovely finishing touch. And yes, once again that’s my daughter Piper wearing the gown!
