The Lemon Grove Historical Society invites you to the City Government of Lemon Grove's annual community bonfire on Friday, December 6 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Treganza Heritage Park, 3200 Main St. in Lemon Grove.

Tour the Parsonage Museum, enjoy visits with Santa at the Lee House, and find great holiday gifts at the gift shop. Plus, there will be music with a live band, a game truck, crafts, inflatables, free cookies, hot chocolate and popcorn, more foods for purchase, welcoming remarks from the mayor, an ugly sweater contest and more.

It is a Lemon Grove tradition dating back to the first Lemon Grove community bonfire in 1915 when members of the Grove Community Club built a bonfire in front of the schoolhouse at Central and Main Streets and served refreshments at the adjacent clubhouse (known today as the Parsonage Museum).

What does it take to survive persecution and exile?

The story of Greta Taussig and Rudy Gans offers answers to this tantalizing question. Born in Linz, Austria, Greta emigrated to London after the country's incorporation into the Third Reich, eventually enduring the horrors of the Blitz. Rudy was able to make his way to Shanghai after imprisonment in the notorious Dachau concentration camp. Along their arduous journey, each experienced the life-saving kindness of courageous strangers.

At this special talk, their son Bob shares their thought-provoking story, supplemented by a display of artifacts and original documents.

Before his retirement, Bob (J.D., UCLA) was the general counsel of a publicly traded company doing business in the U.S. and overseas. A passionate believer in the lessons of the Holocaust, he is co-chair of Welcome Home, an organization dedicated to assisting refugees legally residing in San Diego.
