“Rooted in my love of Mathematics and geometric simplicity, I create visually strikingly pieces of art that are also household items. My work focuses on using colorful and expressive woods for everyday objects including keepsake boxes, coasters and clocks. I painstakingly hand craft and finish each piece to bring out the natural beauty of the woods I have chosen.

In geometry, an affine map is a transformation which preserves straight lines. Much like the Latin word, affinis, my work aims to connect with the mathematical beauty of the natural world.” — Nicholas Phillips, Affine Creations

“As a sculptor I work with elemental ingredients including bronze, paper, salt, beeswax, fabric and wood. I relish the ways in which these archetypal materials have been used by humans since the beginning of time, and am amazed by the resilient desire we have for moments of beauty and making.

I am interested in building a world where art making is truly public, and where creativity is publicly held.

Perhaps in terms of evolution art making makes no sense. But I think parts of us have survived because of this hunger to notice and touch something magnificent that we are somehow part of.” — Laura Baring-Gould

“I’ve dedicated my life to developing my craft and observing first-hand the creatures of nature that inspire me. My original watercolors, pastels, drawings, prints, and cards celebrate that we are kindred spirits with the creatures of nature. I hope my work helps you slow down in a world teeming with distractions, so you can have your own dialogue with nature.” — Holly Wach

“I've been working in wood since I was 7 years old, building love & whimsy into every piece. Sculpted legs that seem to walk, crafted hardwood bodies, whimsical sweeps of contrasting species and rich colors of patinated copper. My pieces are sculptural, functional art; meant to be used, integrating art into everyday life, following the premise of the Arts & Crafts movement of the past century but with a contemporary aesthetic.” — Peter Judge

“I have always been drawn to the outdoors. I love exploring landscapes, collecting and arranging things I find there. Nature offers me its patterns, colors and textures for inspiration, as do the urban landscapes I've lived in for much of my life.

It was never difficult for me to imagine the artifacts of nature as retaining life, even when they are no longer alive. I will never forget the antiques and folk art my mother collected, and how they mystified and thrilled me. Old dolls, marionettes and puppets continue to fascinate me with their enigmatic spirits and hidden past lives. As an artist I have always wanted to create unusual objects that could refer to other realities, and which would possess a mysterious logic of existence.” — Valerie Bunnell

A native New Yorker, the industrial landscape of the city inspires the artwork of Shauna Blythe Burke. Her environment is at once tough, gritty and yet exquisitely vulnerable; she finds this disparity comes together when delicate elements are combined with rough cut stones and textural patterns. Working primarily in 18K gold and oxidized silver, all work is handmade in Burke's studio in Brooklyn, NY.

“In tandem with learning what I was able about wood the substance, and the employment of both traditional hand tool techniques as well as more mechanized methods, I had a deep seated curiosity about understanding the creative process and the quest for new ways to express beauty, elegance and emotion through, in my case, furniture.

That lifetime journey has followed a discernible path from trying to master the furniture forms I saw around me, to a period of deconstruction and randomness where there was no target except the process itself, and, most recently, analysis of each design; whether the function is enhanced by the distillation of the various elements into the essence of woodworking.” — William Robbins

“Beauty is my north, and the inner compass guides me there; paying attention to the world around me; patterns in nature, cultural expressions, or the simple texture of the cloth.

Taking a classic silhouette of a blouse or a jacket, combining that with the drape of silk, on the body in motion; The result is one of a harmonious, symphonic expression of grace, flow and beauty.” — Shekina Rudoy

“I make fine knit accessories – hats, scarves, ponchos and fingerless gloves. I find the best materials I can, because they’re worth it and they last, and make the work by hand where I live because it’s better for the work and better for my neighborhood. I love to mix yarns, to play with colors and patterns, and to make them all explode a little bit with some sparkle and gleam. Cashmere gives beauty, warmth and durability; Swarovski crystals activate the surface, adding depth and motion. I try to make my pieces special to be near, like reuniting people with their long-lost favorite thing.” — Elyse Allen

Margaret Wozniak's art cannot be easily categorized in terms of style. Her works evoke both a strong reverence for antiquity and serene feelings of the spiritual and mythic realms: choirs of small angels caught in mid-song; the winged steed Pegasus standing proudly in muted shades of pastel; bowls and other lidded vessels that might well have served in ancient religious or ceremonial rites. Animals and trees are also dominant themes; horses (sometimes carrying small children on their backs), birds, deer, dogs, reindeer - many perched atop other figures and vessels, some standing or sitting alone. The more modern pieces include larger angels, as well as figures and busts of men, women, and children, some in quiet repose, others in movement or at play. These vary in color from monochromatic to subtle hues and bold strokes. Beautiful plates and platters carry forward the animal and tree designs in finely executed drawings and carvings, with color again being used from minimum to maximum advantage for each piece.

“My primary interest is exploring and giving expression to deeply private realms that are inextricably connected to universal human experience. Drawn to this mysterious terrain, I have wrestled for decades with themes fueled by the murky relationship between power and vulnerability, the comic and tragic, wonder and horror, the holy and corrupt.

Working in an improvisational and instinctual mode, I experience the creative process as an intimate conversation with my materials and the figures that emerge. I love the medium of clay because it is inherently sensual, responsive, and sometimes maddeningly unpredictable. The fluidity of the clay allows me to build and alter forms with great immediacy. I build up and destroy, over and over, pounding and gouging the clay with my hands, in search to discover something I have never seen before, and to be transfixed by the presence looking back at me.” — Marlene Miller

“I don't think there is time in my life when I wasn't dreaming of creating something. I started very young making things out of whatever I could find, wood, metal and clay. Growing up along the banks of the Mississippi river, (my potters mark is a catfish), I moved to New Hampshire after finishing graduate school around 1996. I joined the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen shortly afterward. I have a real love for understanding how things work. I love to build kilns and have a number of them at my home studio. While in essence I consider myself a sculptor I love to make functional work and sculptural vessel forms. I truly believe in the power of craft to influence our lives for the better.” — David Ernster
