Who else can’t wait for more local farm dahlias?! Obsessed doesn’t begin to explain my fascination with them. And I’m absolutely thrilled for the chance to work with some new varieties again this year.

It’s me! (Ali, creator of Untethered Flowers…with more to come!)

Since I’ve been laying a little lower than usual🌸🫥 thought I would say a quick hello 👋🏼 to my friends here (and to my recent followers-a quick thank you🙏🏼 and hello 👋🏼 to you too)!

Briefly, in case you didn’t hear, my little flower shop is now a flower studio, but things are constantly evolving over here. I’m super excited to learn, create, see & eventually share what’s next!

For now though, for those of you who love timelines (NOT to be confused with loving deadlines 🤣🤪😅) as much as I do, here’s a little recap of me & my flowering adventures so far:

🌸2013 - kids, marriage, other career still in full force but I was desperately searching for my creative outlet / life passion with a sense that it was going to hit soon as long as I stayed open

🌸2015 - life happened in a major way with the end of a long marriage, my dad being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer & me trying to hold it together

🌸2016 - with dad in the throes of painful chemo in April, my mom , sis , & I needed some time to brace ourselves, support one another & honestly just escape for a few days. Along came the workshop & thanks to Steve & his EXQUISITE flowers & beautiful way of teaching/mentoring, I was HOOKED.😳Forgoing nursing school, I established Untethered Flowers later that year as a VERY part-time side gig, which meant mostly flowering for friends

🌸2017 - I took on my first “real” events because I thought I had practiced my new passion & skill enough to do so, despite the debilitating new grief of saying goodbye to my dad only a few months after that first workshop

🌸2018 first “professional” pop-up because took a chance on me! I made 0 🍞 but gained some wonderful friends, clients & helped out my bffs non-profit just a little. But one of the greatest things that ended up happening for my business was the fact that one of the volunteers for the nonprofit .a.r.a._.a.f.s.h.a.r.i who is an Elite Yelper (I had no clue about at the time & still don’t know much 🤣) .. timeline continued in the comments

Lastly, to the mama who made it all possible. The one who passed the gene to and thankfully to me too 🌸. You light up our world like no other. Hero, shero, heroine, matriarch, goddess—those are just words—and words don’t teach 😉— but being in your light sure does, and you just keep shining brighter every year. Thank you for the teaching, and for the light. 💫✨⚡️

Make the moms in your life laugh whenever you can!

I’m watching Hacks rn and it’s bringing up a lot of poignant mother/daughter role questions, but one major bright spot has been me really recognizing again what a huge gift laughter is and to see all the creativity that goes into making people laugh! It is really intense at times but what type of creativity isn’t? The matriarch archetype is known (both praised and criticized) for many things but comedy doesn’t seem to be a common one, and it’s so refreshing to see this changing (although too slowly some would say 🙋‍♀️)!

Oh yeah - and order flowers today because I’m almost booked!! 🎉💪🏼

Today I realized the validity of my art. Today I recognized that what I do, what I create, is the work of an artist. It gives me chills to dictate this into my phone. It’s not that today is really any different than any other day, or that this particular arrangement (which is a piece of art, but not really a favorite to be honest) is that different than any other arrangement. But I will say I am taking more serious delight in the creation of this one than I have in a very long time. So what is it about this day, or this particular piece of art, and my particular creative essence that I feel in this moment that is any different from any other moment? I’m not sure if I have the answer, but I definitely have the knowledge. And the FEELING that knowledge brings - that clarity it brings - ooooh, it is really indescribable! I don’t know if I’ll ever share this with anyone, but for me to have experienced this today, when so many things seem to be hurdles that I cannot face, is the most freeing feeling I could possibly have in this moment.

And then the juicy thought (the KNOWING) that the artist and the art will never be complete… well it rushes in quickly - followed by the wondrous feeling that this receiving, this knowledge, is probably the most fun part!!!
