Year round all grass beef available on site, shipped or at www.MonroeFarmMarket.org. Our season for cultural and educational programs runs April 1 - October 31st. 2014 hosted a variety of agrarian projects with amazing on site Farm Dinners, pick your own, children's weeks and much more! As farmers we adhere to Organic standards though our beef is not certified organic. We do not give our steers a

ny growth hormones or antibiotics. Our animals are herded on foot or by horse, never by machine, in an effort to be environmentally conscious, sustainable and respectful to thousands of years of tradition. We dry age our beef for a minimum of 45 days. This sets our beef apart from other farms in both taste and texture. This long aging process allows for the proper breaking down of certain amino acids, making a much more flavorful and tender product. For inquires please contact Jennifer Jones at 304-661-6777 or [email protected]

In addition to raising beef we host a wide array of events including but not limited to: Weddings, Fundraisers, Cooperate Meetings and Retreats, Private Business Parties, Private Dinner Parties, Wine Tastings and Birthday Parties (sometimes at the same time!). Construction on The Big House was completed in 1820 and holds an ambiance that can either be as formal or elegantly rustic as you desire. The estate is on the National Historic Registry. Our farm makes an ideal location for children's birthday parties and we offer a farm tour package aimed at giving kids an educational day on the farm followed up with any kind of party you can dream up. With 152 acres filled with rolling pastures, hard wood forest, creeks, gorgeous show barns and one of the most iconic estates in West Virginia the possibilities are full of grandeur. Our experienced and excited staff love what they do and serve to make your dream event a reality. These galleries display some previous events:

All over the world, small farmers are being forced off their land to make way for corporate agriculture, writes GRAIN - and it's justified by the need to 'feed the world'. But it's the small farmers that are the most productive, and the more their land is grabbed, the more global hunger increases. W...

This article may help us better understand the challenges reaching far across the country impacting ranches and farms selling cattle for the commodity market that service the meats our country depends upon in larger scale markets, grocery, restaurants etc.

Many calves that are destined for these markets begin their lives on farms and ranches of all sizes across the country by people who invest in their communities every day.

This also is a time where our meat markets are diversifying with the growth of regional and local meat producers and processors providing their communities with farm markets, meat shops, local restaurants and other direct sales to customers to mention but a few. The locally grown, finished and consumed meat is a returning and growing business trend that also directly impacts and strengthens the economy of these areas.

Regardless of the destination of the end product, commodity or local, this process originates locally somewhere in this country and the economic spread of the farms and ranches has a very overlooked financial impact as a business nationwide.

This little insight from me is not about how things are done, but to see what has been minimized in the public eye as insignificant. I strongly disagree.
Small farms and ranches have taken the stigma as hobby.
I can't tell you how many times I have heard the comment, "So you farm, what is your real job", My job is not to satisfy your projection of discomfort.

Think about it. The farm/ranch supplying calves, pigs, lambs, chickens, milk purchase most everything right where they live. These are folks who work 7 days a week and don't have time to purchase elsewhere. They buy their food locally, pay taxes on their land, usually support numerous community outreach programs, send their children to school, veterinary needs, doctor appointments, entertainment etc. Smaller ranch and farming operations may have over a million dollars worth of equipment alone. Purchased right down the road, serviced right down the road, fueled right down the road. You get the drift. They spend their money right where they live. If animals are finished for meat they then pay the processor to convert the animal to meat that you, the consumer will purchase.

Each person along the chain in this process is purchasing locally as they live locally. And jobs are created, as it expands more jobs are created. The fencing company, water development company, lime spreading, feed store owner, veterinary owner, processor owner, drill down into it and it expands greatly, not always with profit margins we dream about individually, yet with huge profit margins for the community as a whole.

Until farming is again recognized as the essential base, which it was for all of time until the last 75 years, we have sold ourselves to another agenda that has eroded the lives of wonderful communities across the world.

Thank you for your involvement with those around you growing foods for you. Start to see the ripple effect of their expenditures to bring this food to you, and see how your dollars spent locally are building a strong, viable future for our country.

I bet my life on it, and have, like millions before me and with me.
