Lewiston Roundup 91st Annual Lewiston Roundup
September 3-6, 2025
(251)

Our tradition of "no frills, no fancy stuff" began in 1935 and still holds true today at the annual Lewiston Roundup, one of the longest running continuous community event in the Lewiston - Clarkston area. A member of the Big 4 Rodeo Association, the Lewiston Roundup is recognized as one of the top PRCA Rodeos and plays host to rodeo champions from around the world.

The LRA will be reopening on Dec 2nd for riding and events. We have heard of no new cases and quarantines are being lifted. Please be vigilant and mindful of biosecurity measures as you travel and ride- no sharing water buckets, nose to nose with horses, etc. We will keep updating the community if anything changes.

Sincerely,

Shelly O’Connell DVM

**Lewiston Valley Update - EHV-1 virus**

At the Lewiston Roundup we are following the EHM cases closely and want to update our equine owners in the community. The State of Idaho does not have any cases at this time. There have not been any sick horses with EHV-1/EHM in the Lewiston Valley or at the Lewiston Roundup Grounds. The horses that were reported with EHM are from Cheney - Spokane County, Washington. Everyone is being proactive and informing all equine owners that if they have competed at an Equine facility in Spokane County in the last 2 weeks they may have been exposed to EHV-1. Please monitor your horses and take their temperatures twice daily. If a temperature is taken and it is higher than 101.5 you need to call your veterinarian. At this time everyone is trying to limit exposure by the cancellation of events. We appreciate everyone's understanding and hope to have our facility open Dec. 2nd.

Sincerely,

Shelly O'Connell, DVM

News release from the Washington State Veterinarian - Warning on Equine Herpes Virus

With following the recommendation for vigilance and biosecurity we feel that it is in the best interest for the equine community and the Lewiston Roundup Association to cancel the barrel race this upcoming weekend - Nov. 23rd. The Lewiston Roundup Association will be closed for equine events until further notice. It is important to practice good biosecurity such as not sharing equipment, water buckets and nose to nose contact. EHV-1 is a common respiratory virus of horses but the neurologic form Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy can not be vaccinated against. EHV-1 vaccines may show some cross protection so keeping your horses vaccination status up to date is important. We would like to remain a closed facility for the next 14 days to help in monitoring the spread of this disease. We will keep you posted as more information comes available.

This is my recommendation after visiting with the Idaho State investigators and Washington State. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Shelly O'Connell, DVM

It’s an honor to work with and be able to recognize such an admirable, kind, and humble human! Travis is one of our dedicated directors on the Lewiston Roundup board. Travis displays compassion, respect, and integrity in all that he is a part of. We can’t think of anyone more deserving to be recognized for such an exemplary effort in showing his ongoing support and commitment to those who have sacrificed for our freedom. Thank you Travis for your dedication and loyalty to our Veterans!

Idaho Senator Mike Crapo honored 15 Idahoans with the 2024 Spirit of Freedom Award. Our very own Travis Polek was one of the Idahoans recognized for his volunteer efforts and outstanding service to our veterans. Travis started the Theon Military Flag Ceremony in 2016 raising money for our local Idaho State Veterans Home Lewiston. He also volunteers his time to help coordinate the Veterans Day Parade every year. Please congratulate Travis when you see him. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

The Lewiston Roundup lost another great supporter this past weekend. Bill was a great advocate for the Roundup and he is one of the past Directors we can thank for the great facilities we have today.

William Joseph Skelton, 82, a lifetime Lewiston resident, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, with his wife of nearly 59 years by his side.
