Alright guys, I have to admit that I’ve been a bit lazy lately (and I might even like it 😉), but time to get some work done in the peonies so we can have more beautiful blooms in the spring. 🌸

I’ll be removing any of the old foliage from the peonies and fertilizing them.

They are such a winner as a large focal flower and I gotta give them some love!

I’m lying in bed with all the cruddie little germs 🦠and my mind is cheering me up by thinking about flowers!

I’ve decided to try something new by taking off my grower hat and putting on my florist hat for Valentine’s Day 💕

This year I will have special arrangements for February the 14th, so file that away, share with your other half that might need a hint, and I’ll take care of the rest.

A little square of something pretty 🌸

I am loving the bright salmon colors of the Parkland Tribute dahlia.

Did I mention all dahlia tubers are 20% OFF 😁 for the remainder of the year (use code 2024 at checkout).

Peanut butter and jelly.
Salt and pepper.
Rose and allium.

I planted out my allium bulbs yesterday (the bulbs are teeny because I chose a darling little drumstick variety).

I knew that I wanted to plant the allium bulbs by the roses because there are so many benefits. Alliums are in the same family as garlic and onion so they give off a strong scent (I even caught a few whiffs of onion as I was planting the bulbs). The odor deters certain pests that damage roses like aphids.

Allium and roses also look quite nice together. 🩷💜

I’m settling in to hibernation mode where I get to calculate, plan, and scheme for what next year’s flower fields will look like.

Some things get X-ed off my growing list and I end up growing new varieties too. Even though I have lots of space I still need to narrow down what can fit into the rows.

If there’s anything extra special you’d like to see me grow let me know in the comments.🌱

A BIG THANK YOU for all of the support this weekend at the Echo Christmas Market. I always love attending this event, seeing familiar faces, and chatting it up with fellow flower lovers.

This event was the exclamation point to 2024 and I already have so much beauty planned for 2025. There are bulbs, seeds, and corms already planted and waiting to fill spring subscription bouquets.

Enjoy these fast moving days of December!🌲

Do you have your Christmas tree set up already?

I am so glad to have my tree with lights in the living and an evergreen centerpiece on the kitchen table. The birch bark vase gives such a natural look, the evergreen boughs smell wonderful, and dried flowers give a pop of color.

The centerpieces will be at the Echo Christmas market today from 9-4 ( ).

There are also other great local vendors to come see.

There is so much JOY to be found this season! The lights on our tree are permanently ON and there is nothing better in the evening than kicking up my feet in the glow of the Christmas tree lights.🎄

If you are like me your tree decorations are a combination of a mouse-fairy from 1991 and hand made popsicle stick ornaments made by kiddos. It makes a charming, cozy tree. This year I added a mini dried flower wreath to the bunch and it was just what the tree needed!

I’ll have lots of mini wreaths to be used as ornaments, place settings, gift wrapping, or decor at the Echo Christmas Market this Friday and Saturday the 6th and 7th

I love working with fresh flowers in the spring and summer and I almost forget about the dried flowers until the cool weather this time of year. It is so enjoyable to be able to create with these vibrant dried flowers (and they last longer than fresh ones 🤫).

I’ll have these fun new dried floral wreaths at Flood Town Books this Friday (11/22) from 3-7pm for the shop local Pink Friday event.

Save those orange peels friend because now is the time to get your home smelling like the holidays with stove top potpourri.

I love to toss in orange peels with cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, star anise, or whatever holiday-type spices are on hand (ground spices work too). If you are feeling extra festive you can add in an evergreen sprig.🌲

Just fill a pot with water, add in your scented goodies, and leave in on LOW. Then add water as necessary. Make sure you don’t forget about it completely (which I have done 😬).

It’s so simple and such a treat to have a festive smelling home with all natural ingredients.

AMARYLLIS!

These are the boldest most stunning bulbs to force indoors this season. They produce multiple large Cherry Blossom blooms and are easy to care for. Such a fun gift for a loved one (or yourself)!❤️💚❤️💚

Which is your favorite:

I know that the official beginning of the Christmas season can be a controversial topic, but I’m just saying Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is at the very tail end of November this year, and then BAM it’s going to be the finish line of 2024. So I’ll be sprinkling in some Christmas items over the next days and weeks.

Every year of my adult life I have forced paperwhite bulbs inside. It is just an absolute must for me during the Christmas season- like how fireworks go with the 4th of July. Here is what I’ll be offering this year:

⚪️Single paperwhite in a clear vase
⚪️Singe paperwhite in spotti white
⚪️Single bulb (for you to pot)
⚪️Galvanized Bowl filled with 7 bulbs
⚪️Wooden Box filled with 9 bulbs

I’m always available to message for an order, but I’ll also be Dec 6-7 for the Christmas Market 🎄

These little hands arranged the last flowers of the season to add some beauty to our home.

This week the big dahlia dig will begin! If you don’t know how dahlias work- they are amazing!! When you plant one tuber in the spring it will multiply so in the fall you can dig up a whole clump of 6, 7, 8 9+ tubers (kind of like a potato). The website has tubers for sale.

Last flower order is scratched off the list for 2024.

Now it’s time for one of those bitter sweet things- ripping out all the flowers. Even though many are still blooming and beautiful, in order for me to prepare for spring and get dahlias dig up and divided, it’s time to say goodbye.

I’ll be saving the dahlia blooms, so the Farmstand will have dahlias by the stem through Saturday. Come grab literally the LAST blooms of the season!

Have you noticed how just getting started with a task is the hardest part? I know when I go to work out I’ll put up roadblocks like “you’ll have to change your shoes,” — way too daunting 🤣

Once I start a task it never winds up being so bad. I’ve been feeling like the long fall to do list seems overwhelming, but yesterday (during a nice long nap- thanks Vivi) lots got accomplished!

▪️All of the 400+ dahlias are labeled with their variety name on flagging tape.
◾️Hundreds of rununculus and anemone corms were planted for spring flowers
◾️Rows of the faded summer blooms were ripped out.

There is still plenty more to do. It feels so good to have made some progress.

Shout out to my crew of sidekicks!!

Today we delivered our LAST subscription bouquet for the season: we’ve covered a lot of miles, sung a lot of songs at full volume, and added a heck of a lot of crumbs to the back seat of the car 🤣

These kids truly are all stars when it comes to Tuesday flower deliveries. I’ve enjoyed our time cruising together, but I’m ready for the break that cooler weather brings.
