COMMONLY ASKED SELF-PUBLISHING QUESTIONS

Learning the skill set of self-publishing changed my life and my family's future.

People asked me these questions all the time, so I wanted to share them with you too.

Q: What tools do we need to start self-publishing?
A: The compute, the internet, an email address and a Canva Free Account or any design software.

Q: How long does it take to publish a book?
A: Anywhere from 6 hours to 5 days for Amazon to review and publish your book.

Q: Do I need to pay Amazon a fee?
A: NOPE, that’s the beauty, you publish once and Amazon sells, prints and ships your book to the customer and they take a small cut. Their cut includes what it costs them for this PRINT ON DEMAND Service.

Q: Can I set the price of my book?
A: Yes, you just need to cover the cost for Amazon to help you, which they guide you through. The most expensive book price is $250.00

Q: How do I find what’s in demand?
A: Use the ABC method (which I show you) to get started or dive deeper together, you just say the word: PUBLISH.

Q: How many copies of my book can I buy if I want to ship myself?
A: 999 author copies per transaction. Yes, Amazon can be your supplier if you want a book funnel. Amazon can be your supplier if your kids wanted to open a notebook store instead of a sugary lemonade stand (my kids publish too).

Q: Can you use A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) in book creation?
A: Yes, I have worked thoroughly with an attorney that answers questions. And create a best practice.

Q: Can I use images on Canva legally?
A: Yes, anything in a free account is great.

I don't want to scare you...but.

I was asked by a client to run ads to her book.

She makes six figures coaching and the book has established her authority in a lot of ways.

Her book is available in hardcover, paperback and kindle.

I set the ad up and was only able to run book ads to the kindle.

I don't prefer this, but I went with it until I could look into her Amazon bookshelf with her.

This was a book she hired someone to help her with (no what I teach, I teach the uploading process)

We got on a call today.

We look in her back end.

Her book is selling in hardcover and paperback BUT.....

The sales were NOT going into her bank account.

This was BRAND NEW information to her.

When you work with a publisher, they might have different rules or contractual agreements, but publishing a book yourself means you get the royalties.

FOR FIVE YEARS SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS GETTING THE ROYALITIES ON HER BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so grateful she asked me to optimize her book because she never would have known this...

When I started publishing, it was because I learned the truth about self-publishing.

-You don't have to write a long book to make money.

-You don't have to hire an expensive traditional publisher to get visibility to your book (s).

Tomorrow Jack and I are going on an early morning date.

It's kind of our thing.

We don't have to hire a sitter and we don't eat poorly because it's so early in the morning.

Weird logic right?

We're going to see Frank Hebert's 1965 book put to film: Dune II.

Truth be told, I've been avoiding PARTS of the internet since I didn't read the book like Jack did years ago.

I figure I'll be more in for a treat, at least that's what I'm telling myself.

I had to prepare myself for tomorrow's date by watching Dune I.

Wow. I don't want to spoil it for you.

So I'll just share this.

Can you imagine wandering around in the desert?

same...same.

And it got me thinking...

For two years I basically wandered around the interwebs like it was a desert as I was teaching myself self-publishing.

I found a course or two on it, but it didn't cover many aspects of the whole picture.

And having a marketing background, the gap seemed even bigger.

When Sarah Grace Allred saw me going all in on self-publishing in 2021, we started to have behind the scenes conversations about the difference between traditional publishing and self-publishing.

After publishing for 2 years to the date, do you wanna know what the biggest difference is?

It might surprise you.

But it's also the biggest reason why 99% of the world doesn't accomplish that thing THEY PUT ON THEIR BUCKETLIST.

It's permission.

When you self-publish you give yourself permission:

Publish what you are excited about.

Set your own prices.

Publish often.

For me and now Sarah and so many others, it's
