When we bought this farmhouse (built in 1949 and renovated probably in the early 90s) - we almost didn’t put an offer in because the kitchen had next to no counter space. I knew I could not function without more space. Well, so many other projects outside that the inside has been neglected but we decided to change that. This is phase 1 of the kitchen Reno (on a budget) - and my Christmas present from the best husband ever! This small change added 5 ft of counter space and we will be adding an additional 7 feet on the other side. So excited we are finally getting started!

Lots of emotions swirling in my brain the past few weeks - so excuse the lack in posts. Life has been hectic, and hard, and draining at times. Walked out to this beautiful sunset with the snow and our star - just the peace I needed after a busy weekend. As always lots of changes in our home for this next year - ones that make us sad, but in some ways relieved. We are looking forward to making plans and once again working to grow our little farm in new ways - so be on the lookout for updates. Thank you for those that support our little farm at our farm stand, for those who have stayed at our retreat and for those who have chosen us for your events. We are grateful and hope you will join us in new ventures for 2025.

Can’t forget sweet Lucy! She is mostly retired but can do an occasional pony ride for a little one. The two equines that remain on the farm are two of the sweetest that I know. We feel comfortable with guests interacting with them. Lucy was perfect for this little guy to hop on for some pictures.

Today was a sobering day. Several search crews were up our road accessing the field through our neighbors property - one officer with a cadaver dog crew. I know that has to be harrowing work. But on the bright side - Lisa Hartmann from came by and treated our well for free, I was able to take a small donation to our local community, and was able to let a sweet friend come use our pool house for hot showers - a luxury when there is no water. Crews are working to restore power to the other side of the river on the bridge road, and came home to the most beautiful rainbow. We are happy to open our pool house for showers - just message me and we will work it out!

Our inspiration for our farm name in one picture. Our sweet Chestnut colored horse Lucy and one of the Chestnut trees. This farm is so beautiful and peaceful and we have been so busy trying to grow it as a business that we aren’t slowing down to enjoy it. We decided to stop that this weekend. We will still be running our Airbnb, we will still open up our farm to photographers and for events, and we will still sell eggs and trinkets in our farm stand. We will slow down and slowly work on growing more flowers and things - but mainly we are going to slow down and enjoy the views, the farm and the kiddos in our care.

Came home to two baby chicks. Mama did so good. Guess I need to name her and the babies! I only see two - we have a small coop coming this week to move them into until they are bigger. I think I have a couple more broodys that will be moving to the coop too. #babychicksarethecutest

My poor little hens are so lost. We had a massacre on the farm Thursday. I came home from a long day of travel to find two small dogs in the pasture. When I went to try to get them I found they had killed my sweet Betty White. Went a little farther to find Henry - our beautiful red rooster barely alive - and at bedtime there was one more missing that we found the body of today. All because an irresponsible neigbor didn’t keep their dogs (who had done this before) contained. The remaining hens here who free range outside of the chicken area are so lost without their fierce leader Henry.
