Facebook reminded me this year is my 10th year growing cut flowers. 💐

Back then I also grew a lot of greens, onions, and potatoes for sale at farmers markets. Then I transitioned to an assortment of veggies just for myself. The last couple years I grew very few veggies to have lots of space for flowers. Next year I’m thinking I’ll add a couple rows of blueberries. 🫐

Nearing the end of July already.

Today I am filling out paperwork to take a course in the fall, to get closer to my special ed teaching certification. I have worked in public education going on 9 years now, and with so much support and encouragement from friends and colleagues I decided to give it a shot.

For years I said I have a bad attitude towards taking classes. It’s totally true. I’m a bit jaded considering I still carry too much student debt, and I’ve always been a C student. I have the benefit of having my courses paid for from my district so I really just have my bad attitude to get in check, and I’ll need to budget my time even more wisely.

September is gunna be real! Full wedding schedule, starting back in the classroom, and taking a class. Let’s slow down summer, please. 😬

My last day of school was yesterday!

Just in time for wedding season to begin for us. As well as some much needed house maintenance projects. 😬 Farm and home ownership is such a privilege and oh so much time and resources. It’s often my reason for lack of travel and visiting family, but I’m excited to see so much family for my cousin’s wedding this summer. Summer 24’ I’m here for ya!

The last two years I have been selling these cuties through the . The designers have been snatching them up! They’re short but perfect for bud vases or bouts/corsages.

Happy Earth Day, earthlings! 🌏

It’s my first day back to school after April break. It was a beautiful and productive break. It’s always a busy week of garden prep and planting. We added more crabapple, plum, elderberry, and other native shrubs to our land yesterday.

There was also lots of fencing including a new deer barrier fence!

March marks 7 years on this property!

It’s the warmest March since we’ve been here, and it’s strange to see so much of our yard already. We are surrounded by tall trees that keep our property snowy usually quite late into the season.

Since I am taking the season to focus mostly on cover cropping our gardens, I have plenty of plans for other projects. Besides more perennial gardens, there are lots of trees to cut down and I am going to attempt to get an area of quack grass under control. We’ll see how much gets done!

We’re still scheming up floral designs for couples getting married this year! We still have some dates available May through August for anyone still looking for floral designs for their wedding or other events.

The final bouquet of 2022! I designed it last night and delivered around sunrise to get to school on time. Rachel and her crew of girlfriends met me bright and early, and looking way more ready for the day then I was! Their excitement for the weekend was radiating. ☀️⚡️😁 My kitchen light isn’t the most flattering lighting, but I had to get a pic. Rachel wanted lots of various and wild greenery with white and “almost” black flowers. I trimmed my chocolate geranium plant to add some fragrance. 🍫😎

The last of the Cosmos from the garden. They are everything to me in this design. Excited to send the bouquet into the world tomorrow, to be flaunted and photographer. ✨

It looks like we won’t be getting power back until this evening from yesterdays storm. However, I’m grateful for the rain it brought. If you saw the video of the raccoon in our stories, we got him. He was a large male who killed all of our ducks. 😢 I appreciated Andy for dispatching him, so I thought I would save a piece of him and tan his tail. I took a fur trapping class in college, so it’s always nice to utilize your college education. 🤓

Our honeybees are loving the poppies! It’s been interesting trying to understand bees. Both hives swarmed and left, way high up in the trees and then away somewhere. Half of one of the hives stayed and is thriving. The other has a few stragglers but is empty. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We were told 50% hive survival over winter is good, so with two we hoped we had good odds. We will do our best to keep this one happy! We need to test for varroa mites soon. A parasite that kills colonies!

Happy 3rd anniversary Katie + Andrew! Katie gets an anniversary bouquet from me every year to celebrate. This year they are closing on their first home! Congrats you two!! 🎉 This bouquet has 14 different types of flowers and foliage in it, not counting the different varieties of certain flowers. I love packing bouquets full of variety to keep you surprised. For best vase life you should change the water everyday, give your stems a small trim every other, and pick out the spent stems to keep water clean.

A rewarding sign that the practices we follow on this property are paying off. The soil was awful when we arrived 4 years ago. I was edging out the quack grass from the garden and these friends were emerging everywhere. 🙌🏻 There are still tulip bunches to preorder for pick up in a couple weeks! With the purchase of a property overlooking the S**o River, we immediately went to work transforming a shrubby woodlot. Opening up the land to more sunshine and feeding the soil were first on the list. After planting a young orchard and establishing numerous gardens our hard work was rewarded by tall healthy plants and bucket loads of flowers! As the flowers bloomed with such abundance we decided to start Bounty O' Blooms.

We offer full service floral design using flowers grown mostly on our property and nearby farms, and occasionally selected from a wholesaler. We also offer buckets full of flowers and foliage from colors in your palette, or a mix of both buckets and our design work. Our Flower CSA runs for 5 weeks starting in July.

Sarah has ten years of farming experience, five of which she has been playing with flower design. She works full time during the school year as a teaching assistant. When she isn’t in the gardens she works part time taking kids at camp on wilderness trips.

Andy works full time as an accounting specialist. He is entering his 5th year as the head coach of a high school football team. His landscaping and building experience helps round out the skills of the team.
