Salt Creek Wranglers is looking for a very special volunteer for a recurring volunteer role!

We are looking for a volunteer to dedicate a bit of time before each show to w**d eat/w**d whack around all of our buildings, fences, and arenas. Keeping the w**ds back helps protect our arena sand, buildings, and keep the grounds looking nice.

If you are willing to be our on-call w**d eater, please DM us or e-mail our activities director Emily at [email protected]

Mother Nature is being extra harsh on Nebraska right now... so here are some simple tips for managing your horses in the extreme cold.

1) Provide additional grass hay - as the weather gets colder, horses need more nutrients to maintain their weight and condition while managing the cold. By providing and encouraging extra grass hay consumption, the microbial fermentation in your horses gut can help keep them warm.

2) Provide temperate (45-65 degree Fahrenheit) water - Snow and ice are not adequate sources of hydration for our horses. By providing temperate water, you will allow your horse to safely consume the water they need. You can also slightly increase your horses access to salt to encourage more water intake!

3) Ensure access to shelter - It's best to provide at least a three sided shelter for your horse during extreme cold. Did you know that horses can withstand temperatures slightly below 0 degrees (without any moisture present)?

4) Perform regular hoof care - Your horses hooves could be prone to ice balls or snow balls forming during the extreme cold. And sometimes it takes more than your good hoofpick to get those suckers out! The ice and snow in a hoof can increase pressure on sensitive and stiff joints or create a slipping danger. It's best to routinely pick hooves, especially after snow.

5) Use properly fitted blankets - A horse's hair coat is its first line of defense against a cold. But in these extreme temperatures, blanketing can help keep your horse comfortable. By making sure your horse's blanket properly fits, you can ensure maximum comfort while avoiding rubs and sores.

Salt Creek Wranglers hopes you all stay safe and warm during this extremely cold week!

Calling all horse enthusiasts, lovers of Lincoln, and supporters of Salt Creek Wranglers:

We are looking for sponsors for the 2025 show season. Sponsoring a class costs $25.00. Donors of $100 or more will be eligible to be on our yearly banner. These funds will help us purchase year-end awards, hire quality judges, host shows, and more!

Wranglers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are able to provide a tax deduction as a charitable entity.

Sponsoring one of our classes or donating to Wranglers is an excellent way to give back to the community, promote a business, and support a great cause. Your sponsorship will be recognized at events, on our website, and on our social media outlets.

Please consider helping Salt Creek Wranglers and the local equestrian community; your contribution is greatly appreciated!
