ChefauChef/Wham Bam Meal in a Pan
ChefauChef is a catering business in Lincoln that specializes in in-home caterings, catering to off-site locations, and developing food service programs for offices and college Greek housing. ChefauChef services don’t stop there; ChefauChef caters for all event types. This includes wedding rehearsals & receptions, banquets, fundraiser galas, private dinner parties and in-home cooking lessons.
How did you get started in the business? – I love how food brings everyone together. Everyone enjoys a great meal. I got my first food service job as a busser at Skeeter Barns on 56th and Old Cheney when I was 15. When I turned 16, I auditioned and got hired at Cold Stone Creamery at South Pointe. I worked those two jobs through high school. After high school I went to Culinary School at SCC-Lincoln and got my first kitchen job at Firework’s. I had the privilege to help open the 84th Location when they relocated from the Haymarket. I truly fell in love with catering when I did my culinary internship in Disey World and picked up extra shift works at the Yacht Club Convention Center. When I came back to Lincoln, I had no idea how I would start my own catering business, but I kept it as a goal. In the summer of 2010, I got my first personal chef job for a sorority house on UNL campus. That is where it all started, all in thanks to the program Chair of SCC who recommended me for the job. Love you, Joe Taylor!
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – COVID!!!
What has been your most important achievement professionally? –
The teams I have had over the years to help get ChefauChef where it is today. Without them, none of this would be possible.
Tell me a little about your family– My amazing wife and best friend have been married now for 12.5 years. We have three wonderful and vastly different kiddos. Caleb (10), Bethany (8), and Eve (4). We have one cat, Frank, and one doggo, Gio. My parents are in Lincoln. Brother and his family are in Fremont. My mother-in-law, Marji, lives in Lincoln. Randy, my father-in-law, passed away in November of 2018.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – COVID! Made me truly count my blessings and focus on what I have right in front of me and not what I don't have or what other people have.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Travel! The family and I love to go to Mexico. I try and take one day off a week, usually Sundays. Love going to church with my family, reading/ listening to an informative books, playing disc golf, smoking meats (brisket), and enjoying a dram of whiskey with a friend.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? –
The average person, who did not go to high school with me, probably doesn’t know that I am a master with the yo-yo.
What are you the most proud of?
– Professionally, my staff because without them ChefauChef would not be what it is today. Personally, I am most proud of my relationship with Christ. I genuinely enjoy reading the Bible, talking theology, learning about the History of the Bible, and studying the end times.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Faithful
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Speedster!!!! Like the Flash, Quick Silver, the ability to move super-fast and have a metabolism that allows me to eat whatever I want. Ha!
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Meal preparation for my own home!
