Hi folks! A reminder about tomorrow’s plant swap in Litchfield: the soil is warm and there is plenty of time to get perennials in the ground. I just planted some over at GMS today ❤️

As a reminder, I’ll be there doing some fall gardening in the Aaron Cutler Memorial Library, Litchfield, NH’s garden beds. If anyone wants to help during the plant swap - bring your gardening gloves, snips and hori hori knives.

I’ll also be on hand to answer any questions folks have about their garden plants or the new Seed Library, etc.

Stop by and swap your plants or come by for the whole time, 1-3pm and socialize with our fun group of like minded folks. And be sure to dress for the weather - it will be in the 50s, a true autumn day!

Dropped off a new seed library to our towns library. Stacy made the stand and seed packets (so far) and she and Olivia have collected the seeds. Alex has helped with the foxglove seeds - those are coming soon!

This is the plan - just 1 or 2 trees. I want to have this growing here in New Hampshire too! Started the project this year. Time to bundle them in for winter (just babies now).

Good morning from my fur babies and I - the dried marigold garland is still hanging in the window ❤️

Lots of planning and preparation goes into next season. While the spring flowers were blooming and being harvested and I was planting out summer crops and getting drip irrigation going, etc…I was ordering spring flowers for next season. My bulb orders have been arriving. Some will be planted in the fall (think tulips and alliums) while others will be planted this spring - like these ranunculus and anemone corms.
If you aren’t familiar with ranunculus…they are a but labor intense, requiring the octopus-looking corm to be soaked and pre-sprouted before planting out into the “field”. I’ll do the same with the anemone corms but I do tend to leave these in the growing and see what ones come back where the ranunculus must be dug up and stored over winter because they will not survive our climate. Both bloom in the cooler temps of spring to early summer. And ranunculus has amazing vase life and looks like a rose without thorns.

We still have plenty of arrangements at the farm stand. Mums are doing their thing right now and these are not your average garden mum…they are florist-type mums and are stunning! The best part: they last for WEEKS in the vase!

Although the past few days have been warm, we already had a couple days of frost - enough frost to take out the dahlias, zinnias, amaranth, mahogany splendor hibiscus, marigolds, cosmos….the tender annuals. These arrangements are available today, 10/22/24 and will likely be some of the last of the season.

No tricks, just a treat! 🎃 As you can see, this Cherry Tree is blooming for the second time this season. Yes! It’s supposed to bloom in the spring AND in the autumn. What a cool variety. See the Limelight Hydrangea in the background of the second photo as proof this photo was taken today 10/16/24 😍

It’s getting COLD out there too fast for my liking! So I went out to harvest the Zinnias they have been pollinated and were looking more ripe. There will be some viable seeds in this collection for sure! Unfortunately, it’s been raining for 2 days so I need these babies to DRY! Stay tuned, I filmed a short video on harvesting the seeds from your zinnias. So get out there and dead head the copy ones. Bring them in to dry. And I’ll show you how to shave those seeds to plant next year / no need to buy more. One flower head and you probably have enough seeds for your whole garden next year!

I believe this will be the last rhubarb harvest of 2024! What a prolific year - again! And I have new plants I started from seed (new to me variety). I gave a division to a plant friend and have more seeds to sow next year that I got from a local farm with beautiful and huge rhubarb. Yay! If anyone needs rhubarb / from spring to fall - I’m your girl 😂

Last weekend I had the pleasure of making the centerpieces for an intimate wedding. Pam brought me 8 vases and we talked about the flowers and colors. Here is what I came up with. She also sent me a photo of what they looked like on the tables. ❤️

We are a month away from voting.
A month away from folks (hopefully) removing these awful signs from all the beautiful nature that surrounds us.

Be sure to vote. Undecided? Voting for a ticket that visits farms, garden centers and holds barn cats is fine by me!

If anyone local needs a ride to the polls on Election Day, please reach out - I’d be happy to give you a ride.
