My Private Paris (and my sweet Roxbury)
The Easter holiday can be the best time to visit Paris – although not this year, unfortunately. Since we won’t be able to celebrate Easter in Paris this year, we thought to share some French Easter traditions and of course some of the most savory dishes served at this time of the year, right here, at home.
Chef Paul is about to finalize a simple but festive menu that will be served at the restaurant - and also available for pick-up as well - all day long on this Easter (11:30 am - 7 pm). Of course, in addition to these delicious dishes, there will be a Classic Brunch available.
Now, let's go back to France for a little bit …
One of the most important things to know about Easter in France is that it is not an Easter bunny who delivers children their Easter baskets filled with eggs and candy. In France, Easter presents are delivered by Les Cloches de Pâques literally flying church bells. Beginning on the Thursday before Easter, church bells go silent until Easter Sunday to mourn the death of Jesus. Legend has it that so parents could explain the absence of the church bells to their children, they created the story that during this time the bells fly all the way to Rome so that the Pope can give them his blessing. On their way back to France on the Saturday night before Easter Sunday, the bells drop eggs and presents into gardens.
Like most holidays in France, the Easter holiday is centered around a long meal with multiple courses. Typically, the main course for Easter is lamb which is representative of re-birth and the Springtime. Many families will serve an Easter brioche called la gâche de Pâques, a ring shaped pastry which features a colored Easter egg in its center.
Please stay tuned. Paul's Menu for this Easter is about to be published soon.

BON APPÉTIT BISTRO & CRÊPERIE at ROXBURY PIZZA STATION is the latest addition to the Roxbury, Connecticut's dining scene.
The Menu is quite expansive, diverse, and inviting; an affordable approach to Classic French cooking. The ambiance and the décor are into a perfect harmony, majestically responding to a beautiful and charming outdoor space.
Back in the kitchen, Paul ladle out French onion soup so thick a spoon can stand upright without wavering. The everyday menu is full of such homey dishes but doesn’t feel crowded. There will always be steak frites, croque Madame, mussels frites and of course - the mighty confit, duck & chicken. Fresh herb stuffed Loup de Mer flambee with Pernod and served with lemony fennel it’s one of life’s simplest pleasures. The steak frites, a sliced crimson New York strip loin in shallot butter, was basic and satisfying, but spend the extra $7 for the authentic French potato gratin to round out the plate. A note on the fries: they are hand cut and loaded with cheese & fresh herbs. Classic French Galletes served all day long; and ... Mon Dieu ... "Le Dessert", to die for. Daily, by order made, paper thin, silky CLASSIC CRÊPES filled with fresh fruits and artistically decorated with in house made coulis. Yes, BON APPÉTIT!
