Lithonia Arts is coming for creators.
The Lithonia Art Center has been in the works since 2017, when founder Steve Paul purchased the building just months after his father took his own life. His idea was to open it to artist, so they could express themselves. You see, drawing and creating was how Steve handled his depression, especially when his father passed. He wanted to share his way of healing with the world.
However, the road to opening the building took longer than he thought, luckily the universe allowed him to meet artist Charles Coad and business consultant & creative, Cindy Thomas. Then just like that-- the ball started rolling. First with new branding, then funding, then renovations, and soon... an opening.
One of the main missions of The Lithonia Art Center is to heal the community through the arts, especially those dealing with depression, anxiety, or stress.
With a new homegrown, multi-faceted millennial Mayor on Lithonia’s horizon, our city is destined to be a destination for creativity and the arts. Lithonia Art Center is positioned in what will be the Arts District of Historic Downtown Lithonia, that will stretch down Center Street and on adjacent streets. Four more upcoming businesses in the Arts District will be: Lithonia Arts Farm - an artist cove that will offer an artist residency program; The Candy Lady - an nostalgic organic candy store inspired by two Lithonia-based Chicago natives; Gilly’s Brew House Lithonia - the 2nd location for Stone Mountain based coffee shop that’s known for it’s excellent vibes and monthly nights; Granite City Cider House - a cidery founded by two southern born and bred best friends, that also happen to be political consultants.
