A Happy Labor Day Weekend to all. I am thankful to have the weekend off from work to take things slow and spend time with the children. My late husbands grandfather is 90 soon and we celebrated with him last night and I am so shook with the passing of time recently. Life can be so unfair just in its natural existance and there is little we can do to change it. Celebrating someone is how we can grasp ahold of it's ever changing flow in our lives! Being able to take life slow some days and some weekends is an eternal gift.

The sunset was out for Ethan + Samantha!

The larger the family of children the more the older will take care of the younger siblings and i love to see it!
I am inspired by my own childhood - i loved taking care of my sister as a baby and we had only a ten year age gap. And my own mother's family which had a 20 year age gap i believe. I will show that sibling photo in my stories. The youngest sibling is not pictured- there were 11 in total.
A beautiful legacy is the story of a family! No matter how your family comes together i believe it is a sacred thing. Holy ground.

I am in so much trouble, cause I just decided that I am logging off for the day. I am gonna be present with my kids before I leave for the evening, I am going to cook them a lovely meal and I am NOT going to be on my computer working.

Her ever present smile was radiant all day long and their wedding day was chuck full of all the things that make up them as a couple.

Being invited over to your home for you family session is a special kind of high for me. This is where you wake up every morning and drink your coffee? This is where you watch this same beautiful sunset in the evening? You created this garden? If you haven't been here long you wouldn't know that I am in the process of "fixing up" this old home we live in and I am SO inspired by other people's homes. I work on it in the winter when photography is slower....
And this family is one of my regulars. I love them dearly. Sheryl always sends home an entire basket of treats for us - most of it being homemade fresh goodness. This garden is a dream for me and I'm so happy I have lots of photos of it to look back on later cause...I wanna make a garden.

Your very own imagination is a great place to start if you want to create original, unique photos. Trends are fun. I love them.
Lists are good, Pinterest is a great tool.
But to take genuine - in the moment- photos of your wedding day is really my entire goal. This photo is mine, through and through. I'm sure it was inspired by something from my memory, but I could not pin point it if you asked and that is what I love about it.
And now, I hope it inspires you in some way (that is why I'm sharing it) and I expect to see it in other people's work.
Imitation is the finest form of flatter and you don't have to ask permission. Have fun!

Dance floor: how to get the best pics on your wedding day.
Some people love to dance more than others. Some dance floors are more conducive to better dancing than others. Some weddings are just a better party. Is it the people? Is it the floor? Is it the music?
Some couples stick together like glue on the floor and others drift apart, dancing with friends. Both are fine.... do both for sure. But do not forget to dig in and dance with each other. Forget the bridal party. Forget your parents. Forget your friends and just focus on each other every once in a while... and if you forget everything I said, just come back to these photos and dance like Vincent and Alley. Periodt. DJ, No Macarena threw a good mix!

5 years.
August 6, 2018. Fentanyl overdose.Did you know August 31 is overdose awareness month? Did you know that in 2018 more american men died from overdose than in the vietnam war?
We are no one special. Meaning....anyone can become an addict. You don't have to be poor or grow up in the city. Your home doesn't have to be dysfunctional and you can live a very normal life as an addict for a very long time.
So many people say pray. Pray for your children. And yes, you should. But I say stay connected to the hearts of your children. You want a relationship with them 20 years from now? Develop it today. Work to stay connected to them and cultivate that relationship every day. Talk about hard things in every day conversation. Ask them engaging questions about their everyday lives. Be available to them in all the small ways. Nurture your babies and never stop. Put your relationship with your children above your own reputation. And there is no guarantee because in the end every soul makes its own decisions and you have to be okay with that. Don't spend time worrying about the future or trying to control it but live in freedom everyday and show the next generation how that feels.
And do not fear death. It will come to all of us at one time or another and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger if you can remain soft and not become bitter. I never dreamt in a million years my life would take this turn. And I would not trade the hard. Lives are transformed when heartache is turned into growth AND I feel like who I am now has gained - not lost - for the experiences I had to face. God is good. Suffering is good.
It can be tempting to look at the world and see all of the death and despair but I encourage you to keep looking for the glory of the Lord in all the small places. Pray that He would show Himself strong to you. And He is faithful to finish the work He started. Keep going.

This will make you cry. Motherhood is amazing to encapsulate for as soon as you think of a plus you can think of a negative. As soon as you feel you adjusted there is a new hurdle. Rarely is a mother fully taken care of or remembering everything. I forgot some things for my daughter this morning and her sweet little "It's okay mom. It's okay," touched my heart and made me weep. May I ever be softer, move slower, feel deeper, and be more gentle with my young.
