Tonight! GREYHOUNDS out of Austin, Texas being phenomenal R&B and so much more. Going to be an awesome show. 9pm. Tickets at link in comments.

Rising out of the Austin, Texas music scene, the Greyhounds, a duo comprising guitarist Andrew Trube and keyboardist Anthony Farrell, feature a unique sound that mixes R&B, soul, funk, and the Bakersfield country of Buck Owens into a style that has been described as “Hall & Oates meets ZZ Top,” and the duo’s exciting live shows have earned them a large and loyal fan following. The pair met in the late ‘90s, and immediately began writing and playing together, placing tunes with artists like Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks while building up a songwriting catalog and gathering new fans with each show.

One of the world’s most dreamy country voices returns to the White Water for special early show this Sunday, September 22nd! Always an honor to have the mighty Melissa Carper back in the house. Doors open @ 5pm and The Lonesome Heroes (Austin,TX) will kick things off at 6pm sharp. Advance tickets available @ the link in comments.

“I don’t think you can get this sound unless it’s borned in ya,” said bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley, when asked about what he called “old-time mountain music.” When Melissa Carper heard those words, something jumped inside her. While staying in the country with a friend, she found an old DVD of Down From the Mountain, the documentary and concert film of the “O, Brother Where Art Thou’’ soundtrack that featured this particular Stanley interview. She immediately jotted down “borned in ya” on a piece of paper. “I knew I had to write that song,” she recalls.

In the Spring of 2023, Carper went back to East Nashville’s Bomb Shelter — the same “analog wonderland” where she’d recorded Ramblin’ Soul and its predecessor, Daddy’s Country Gold, and enlisted the help of her trusted co-producers — Dennis Crouch and Andrija Tokic. “Borned In Ya” would become the title track of the new album, out July 19th via Mae Music/Thirty Tigers.

The Lonesome Heroes have been dancing the line between indie, country, and Americana sounds for nearly two decades in Austin, Texas. ‘Seasons Change’ paints a picture of sonic and scenic landmarks - a mural of musical influences inspired by interstate miles. Restless rock & roll, lackadaisical h***y-tonk and a modern take on Cosmic American Music all converge here in the sixth album of the Heroes discography.

Support Joshua Ray Walker’ Fight Against Cancer

Our dear friend Joshua Ray Walker, the magnificent artist of Dallas, Texas, is going through a hard fight with cancer right now and could use all of the support available. In addition to being an extraordinary singer and songwriter, Joshua is truly among the kindest folks we’re lucky enough to count as friends. There is a gofundme link in the comments below - please pitch in if you’re in a position to do so. Message from Joshua below. We love you, JRW!

“Hey y’all! Once again, I’ve got some good and bad news to deliver. The good news is that I’ve finished chemo treatment! It was extremely tough, and I want to thank y’all so much for supporting me through this experience. My body handled it reasonably well, and I’ve begun to rebuild my strength and immune system! The bad news is that upon the completion of tests to check on the status of my cancer post treatment, multiple nodes of varying sizes were found in both my lungs.

Before I started chemo, I was told I had a 90% chance of having clear tests post treatment. So to find completely new growth in a new organ was something for which I was not prepared. This unfortunately means my cancer will likely be restaged to stage 4. I will get a lung biopsy, and start radiation soon. I wish I had more information to share but I’m still waiting to meet with a radiology oncologist following my biopsy surgery. I will keep y’all as updated as possible, and I will continue to fight my hardest. The odds have definitely shifted, but I’m not going to publish them here. It seems defeatist, and unnecessary. I’ll let you know what they were after I beat them. I’ve always lived life to the fullest and I will continue to do so.”

The brilliantly talented, Grammy award winning LOUIS MICHOT of Lost Bayou Ramblers returns to the White Water for a special solo show this Thursday, September 19th! Louis is a phenomenal artist who continues to push the boundaries of Louisiana French traditions. Tickets available for $12 @ the link below.

Louis Michot is best known as the fiddle player and lead-singer for the Grammy award winning Lost Bayou Ramblers, but his passion for Louisiana French and local folklore, and sustainability in the fastest disappearing landmass in the world are what fuels his career as a musician. With over 20 LPs under his belt, his music career continues to push the boundaries of the Louisiana French music traditions.

Rêve du Troubadour, the first solo album from Louis Michot, is set for release in the fall of 2023. Special guests on these recordings include Nigerian Tuareg guitar wizard Bombino, and critically acclaimed singer / cellist Leyla McCalla among others. Known as a fiddle player, Michot primarily performed on guitar, bass, T’fer (triangle), samplers, percussions, and accordion. Some of finished tracks feature him playing every part, while others find him backed with bassist where Bryan Webre and drummer Kirkland Middleton of the Ramblers and Louis’ other regular band, Michot’s Melody Makers as well as guests like Bombino, McCalla, Quintron, guitarist Langhorn Slim, Shardé Thomas with and without her Rising Stars Drum and Fife group, Grammy-nominated accordion player Corey Ledet, and Dickie Landry on sax. Kirkland Middleton of the Ramblers engineered and mixed the album at Nina Highway Studios in Arnaudville, Louisiana with various musicians building on basic tracks Louis had recorded at his home, houseboat studio.

JENNY DON’T & THE SPURS are heading in from the Pacific Northwest to play the White Water for the first time next Wednesday, September 18th. This is going to be an awesome show! Advance tickets recommended and available at the link below.

Emerging from the Pacific Northwest, over the past decade Jenny Don’t and the Spurs have built a reputation as hardworking and musically-driven stalwarts of the Country Western scene. Despite facing challenges like Jenny's vocal surgery in 2019 and the loss of drummer Sam Henry to cancer in 2022, they've remained resilient and fully committed to their musical journey.

With a fierce DIY ethos, they've independently released the majority of their 13 albums and singles on their own label, cultivating a vast international following through extensive tours across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and performances in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Mexico. In 2021, Jenny Don’t and the Spurs garnered attention with their album Fire On The Ridge, a collaboration with Fluff and Gravy records that topped the Alt Country charts. Their achievements included receiving the coveted "2023 Outlaw Group" award at Dale Watson's Ameripolitan Award Ceremony in Memphis, Tennessee.

New Orleans take-over this Saturday night w/ Ponch Bueller * Azad Safavi * Lily Unless & Barstool Brown * Advance Tickets Available For $10 @ www.whitewatertavern.com

Ponch Bueller and the Loaded & Baked Potatoes started making waves in the New Orleans country music scene in the spring of 2018 and have been unstoppable ever since. With an ear for good music and an eye for good times, Ponch Bueller and the Loaded & Baked Potatoes deliver a modern take on a classic h***y tonk and country sound, complete with two fiddlers and three part harmonies. They never fail to get the party started with their good-time, h***y tonk attitude! - Rolling Stoned

A lifelong student of the road, Azad sings the songs as they come to him, whispered in his ear by unseen spirits when he takes the time to listen. Traveling now from a base in New Orleans, he keeps his ears open, but he’d gladly sing for you if you care to hear.

Formed in New Orleans in 2022 and born of a common love for early 1950s country and rock & roll,Lily Unless and The If Onlys cook up the kind of swamp-abilly country you may hear in an all-night saloon where the musicians play as long as the dancers dance and the bartenders pour as long as the patrons drink and the ci******es smoke until the fog on the port window is thick enough to write your lover’s name.

Mississippi native songwriters Spencer Thomas and Schaefer Llana are heading to the White Water for a special co-bill this Friday, September 6th! Join us for a great night of music - tickets available at the link in comments.

The songs on Spencer Thomas’ new LP, The Joke of Life, (out May 17, 2024), much like a good joke, are many-layered. His talent is immediately obvious, with sleek composition and production throughout. There’s a nostalgic, everyman flair to his music that doesn’t hang on the influences of the past, but uses them as a guiding light to elevate his voice. "The Joke of Life”, was recorded over the last three years with the help of a veritable “who’s who” of the Athens music scene and beyond, including members of My Morning Jacket, Drive-By Truckers, Reptar, Heffner and Futurebirds, for which he is the current touring keyboard player.

Growing up in Batesville, Mississippi, a town of about 7,500 outside of Oxford, Schaefer Llana had to really search to discover the music that she now cites as influences. Sharon Van Etten, Judee Sill, and Karen Dalton weren’t playing on local radio, though early interactions with Shania Twain and Britney Spears certainly seep their way into her radiant style of contemplative and confessional indie rock. As such, her style is an amalgamation of these influences–an almost preternatural ability to conjure memorable hooks out of thin air; a lyrical style that veers from narrative driven to poetic with the flip of a switch; and patience in her songwriting that reveals someone relentlessly dedicated to teasing out the subtle details that can make a song great.

Sarah Shook & the Disarmers are touring on their brand new album “Revelations” and they’re coming to White Water next Tuesday, September 10th! Catch this ripping indie country band playing ten new songs from the record plus all the fan favorites. We love this band so much! Advance tickets recommended and available @ link in bio.

“A stirring country-rock record that two-steps between Waxahatchee’s incisive beauties and Tom Petty’s winking classics, “Revelations” is the work of a songwriter relishing newfound clarity and confidence.” - The New York Times

“Musically, it’s an alt-country zenith.” - Paste Magazine

“An Americana rock ‘n’ roll masterpiece.” - New Noise

“A benefit concert supporting the recovery of an eccentric Little Rock resident best known as Punk Rock lan is happening this weekend. Saturday’s show at White Water Tavern - featuring a silent auction with work from Central Arkansas artists and vendors, and performances by Adam Faucett, Sulac, Squozen and the Lords of Rock Bottom - is the second of two fundraising efforts for Ian, who prefers not to share his last name. After struggling with addiction and living on the streets of Little Rock for “eight or nine years,” lan checked into a rehab facility in April, prompting a group of local musicians to get involved.”

Tonight! JD Clayton and his band will be in town to kick off their headlining tour with special guest Leon Majcen opening the show at 8:30pm sharp. Doors open @ 7pm and there will be no happy hour this afternoon. This show is on the verge of selling out - tickets available @ www.whitewatertavern.com. In the event of a sell out, we will likely be able to accommodate a few walk-ups at the door.

There’s no artifice surrounding the Arkansas-born singer and songwriter. No glitz. No pretension or mythology. There’s a refreshing lack of gratuitous posturing or creative conceit. Clayton is simply a guy who has things to say and does so clearly and without clutter — but with an earnest and tuneful sensibility that makes listening to his songs on his new album Long Way From Home as easy as sitting in the cool breeze on your front porch.
Clayton’s songs have a directness and clarity that are the hallmarks of a genuine craftsman, someone who’s studied and practiced and chased a few different paths to end up where he is now. And it’s not without grand ambition, either; Clayton sings in “American Millionaire” that “I’m workin’ my way to be one of the greats,” and he fully understands the diligence and dedication it will take to get there.

Leon Majcen is a musician whose story is one of resilience and determination. He grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, the son of Bosnian war refugees who had fled the country in search of a better life for their children. From a young age, Leon was drawn to the power of storytelling through music, particularly the work of artists like Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Bob Dylan and Guy Clark.

This Thursday night! Big full-band bill w/ Emily Fenton * Avery Lee & The Sweeties * Sleepy Zuhoski * 8pm * $12 @ www.whitewatertavern.com

Emily Fenton is an artist from Little Rock, Arkansas with roots in Ithaca and New York City. Her music is born of a desire to connect with others through stories, lyrics, and melodies. An affinity for cut-to-the-chase lyrics and a fascination for psychedelic concept albums led to the creation of her first full-length album, Hello, from Planet Earth. The record, blending elements of classic country, folk, and contemporary indie-rock, heightens a mundane world through the lens of falling in love. The record was recorded at White Water Tavern in the summer of 2022.

Avery Lee (they/them) is an indie-folk singer-songwriter with roots in post-punk. Avery’s newest project, Avery Lee and the Sweeties, goes back to their Tulsa, OK, origins, drawing listeners in with unexpected melodies over folksy, spooky guitar grooves. Influenced by the ethics of punk, Avery’s lyrics ask listeners to consider the difference between how they were taught to behave and how they want to behave. Avery Lee and the Sweeties challenges listeners by inviting them toward reflection and resistance. Avery’s aesthetic and ethos is inspired by their music as the lead singer of the Fayetteville band The Phlegms, known for their dynamic post-punk shows.

Lonesome hobo folk-pop dressed in platonic wanderlust, “Haze,” shape-shifts between dark, bewitching invitations and get-along songs rustling catchy chameleon appetites hungry for bendable intentions. Crafted narratives navigating haphazard happiness, Zuhoski waxes and wonders in carousel melodies voicing hypnotic thoughts following far-flung orbits; woozy acoustics perusing loose upbeat truths while road-tested electrics send tender regards from sparkling guitars and serpentine keyboards.

We are pumped to welcome the underground legend Bob Log III to the White Water for the first time this Wednesday, August 28th. When Tom Waits was once asked what he’d been listening to lately, he replied “There’s this guy named Bob Log, you ever heard of him? He’s this little kid — nobody ever knows how old he is — wears a motorcycle helmet and he has a microphone inside of it and he puts the glass over the front so you can’t see his face, and plays slide guitar. It’s just the loudest strangest stuff you’ve ever heard.“ Advance tickets are recommended and available for $12 at www.whitewatertavern.com.

Tonight! We’ve got lots of great musicians heading over from Memphis to do their thing. Heartbreak Hill Trio ft Matt Hill and Nikki Hill are a killer rock n roll band. Chelsea Lovitt and her well-versed group kick the show off at 8:30pm. This Is Saturday night music. Tickets available for $10 @ www.whitewatertavern.com.

Hailing from North Carolina, Hill was nurtured on the sounds of NC artist like Link Wray and Nappy Brown. His debut, On the Floor, received notable attention and awards. Hill’s next release Tappin’ That Thang solidified his soulful raw sound. Since 2013, Hill has toured with Rock N’ Soul artist Nikki Hill. May 2022 HeartBreak toured Spain and released Here Comes HeartBreak recorded in Memphis TN

For Chelsea Lovitt, the multifaceted music of the South is her inspiration. She is immersed in the traditions of country, soul, rock ‘n’ roll, and bluegrass, and her bona fides on guitar and fiddle match her vocal chops, which go from pure h***y tonk to rockabilly to folk and rock ‘n’ roll. For sure, these days plenty of artists—in Nashville and elsewhere—use the criss-crossing map of Southern music as their handbook.

Tonight * Christopher Denny * Charlotte Crosmer * The Gravel Yard * 8pm * $10

Christopher Denny’s music draws heavily from both gospel and country influences, fitting for an artist whose first musical experiences took place in his local church. The singer/songwriter, whose ethereal voice bears a resemblance to Antony of Antony and the Johnsons (and, to a lesser degree, Jeff Buckley), first picked up a guitar at the age of 14 and began writing songs soon after. A visit to his great-uncle’s house led to the discovery of a Lefty Frizzell and Hank Thompson vinyl collection, which had a deep impact on the young musician. With the blessing and gift of a guitar from his grandfather, also a musician, Denny embarked on his own musical career.

The Gravel Yard brings an eclectic style to the bluegrass world with lively originals and a twist on the old stuff. Bring your mom. Your grandma. Your mailman. We’re gonna have a good time.

What Chelsea Lovitt knows is that it’s a map that leads you to new places while laying out the eternal truths. Above all, Lovitt is a writer, so you can bring in Faulkner, romantic poets like John Keats and certainly Tennessee Williams as guides to her sensibility. Her music is complex, full of contradictions, which means she honors the mystery of the Southern tradition.

A true Renaissance man who has continued to reinvent himself time after time."
- Brooks Museum
