We’re looking forward to this weekend where we’ll be hosting a dynamic evening of music and dance! It is important to recognize Sri Pankaj Mishra, one of our guest artists for the evening hailing several years of expertise, knowledge, and beautiful musicality. It is an honor to have him offering both solo and accompanimental music for this event.

Bio:
For an Indian classical musician, there is no greater blessing than to be born into a great lineage. Being The great grandson of sarangi virtuoso late Pt. Saraju Prasad Mishra, Grandson of late Pt. Mahadeo Prasad Mishra, and Son of Shri Satya Narayan Mishra, Pankaj was bestowed with that great opportunity. Thus, he was trained from an early age by the renowned sarangi player of the famous Banaras Gharana, the late Pt. Mahesh Prasad Mishra. Pankaj has received the mantle of his musical forebears with the greatest respect and humility whilst working diligently to earn the reputation of an accomplished representative of an impressive and unique musical family. Pankaj is an A Grade sarangi player with the prestigious All India Radio & Television Kolkata and is “Sangeet Prabhakar” from Allahabad Sangeet Samiti. Pankaj has performed around the world with the greatest names in Hindustani music including kathak greats Late Pt. Chitresh Das, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Rammohon Maharaj, Pt. Vijay Shankar; tabla masters Late Pt. Shyamal Bose, Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt. Aninda Chatterjee; vocalists Late Vidushi Girija Devi, the Ghazal King Gulam Ali, Ustad Mahmood Sabri of the Great Sabri Brothers of Pakistan, and many more.

I’m delighted to be performing in this Friday's WORLD PREMIERE of "Rhapsody in राग जोग (Raag Jog) by composer Drew Zaremba leading UNC Spectrum Studio Orchestra, featuring Anjan Shah (saxophone, bansuri), with Nabin Shrestha (tabla), Steve Kovalcheck (guitar), and Gonzalo Teppa (bass). The performance is at UNC Greeley’s beautiful new Campus Commons Performance Hall. This piece is a joyful meeting of Hindustani and Western classical worlds, and it has been a meaningful choreographic process for me.
