FROM PLUM CREEK SHOOTING SOCIETY

Howdy Plum Creek Shooters, we could use your help if you're available for a few hours on February 25th approx 9:00AM.
We sustained some wind damage at the range a few weeks ago which blew down some of our Loading and Unloading stations. We could really use a few extra hands to help in uprighting them and making the needed repairs. Two Spurs and Joe Darter will be bringing tools with them.

We also have some misc items like painting, limb trimming and such to prepare for the March Match. If you're available for a few hours we would sure would appreciate a hand.
Many thanks, Brazos Bo

My beautiful longhorn bull Henri has been purchased for yard art. He was getting a little too ornery to be around guests, but behind a fence he’s perfect!

Copied from Face Book

On Jeopardy the other night, the final question was: “How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the Tomb of the Unknown?”

All three missed it.

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

1. How many steps does the guard take during his
walk across the Tomb of the Unknown and why?

21 steps. It alludes to the twenty-one gun salute, which is the highest honor given any military or foreign dignitary.

2. How long does he wait after his about face to begin his return walk and why?

21 seconds for the same reason as above.

3. Why are his gloves wet?

His gloves are moistened to prevent his losing his grip on the rifle.

4. Does he carry his rifle on the same shoulder all the time and if not, why not?

He carries the rifle on the shoulder away from the tomb. After his march across the path, he executes an about face and moves the rifle to the outside shoulder.

5. How often are the guards changed?

Guards are changed every thirty minutes, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.

6. What are the physical traits of the guard limited to?

For a person to apply for guard duty at the tomb, he must be between 5' 10' and 6' 2' tall and his waist size cannot exceed 30.' Other requirements of the Guard:

They must commit 2 years of life to guard the tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives.

They cannot swear in public for the rest of their lives and cannot disgrace the uniform {fighting} or the tomb in any way. After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only 400 presently worn.

The guard must obey these rules for the rest of their lives or give up the wreath pin.

The shoes are specially made with very thick soles to keep the heat and cold from their feet. There are metal heel plates that extend to the top of the shoe in order to make the loud click as they come to a halt.

There are no wrinkles, folds or lint on the uniform.
Guards dress for duty in front of a full-length mirror.

The first six months of duty a guard cannot talk to anyone, nor watch TV.
All off duty time is spent studying the 175 notable people laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. A guard must memorize who they are and where they are interred.

Among the notables are: President Taft, Joe E. Lewis {the boxer} and Medal of Honor recipient Audie Murphy, {the most decorated soldier of WWII} of Hollywood fame.

Every guard spends five hours a day getting his uniforms ready for guard duty.

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

In 2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington , DC , our US Senate/House took 2 days off with anticipation of the storm. On the ABC evening news, it was reported that because of the dangers from the hurricane, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment.
They respectfully declined the offer, 'No way, Sir!' Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can
be afforded to a serviceperson.
The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.

God Bless and Keep Them

I don't usually suggest that many posts be forwarded, but I'd be very proud if this one reached as many people as possible.
We can be very proud of our young men and women in the service no matter where they serve.

Had a great time at the Plum Creek Shooting Society's Battle of Plum Creek this weekend. Excellent stages, good posse, good food, clean match and won my category. First BOPC in several years when I wasn't responsible for the match. Clearly my successors have seized the moment and delivered. Deeply honored to receive recognition for the work for the club by a beautiful buckle. Thanks to all for that.

Diane Sawyer's special report was very good and extremely eye-opening.
They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family's home that were not made in the USA.
There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they showed truckloads of items, USA made, being brought in to replace everything and talked about how to find these items and the difference in price etc..
It was interesting that Diane said if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items for one year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs.
When buying food at Walmart, often on the label it will say MADE IN CHINA or PRC. For example “Our Family” brand of mandarin oranges say on the label “Made In China”
I was shocked for a few more cents I could buy the Liberty Gold brand or the Dole brand made in California.
If you look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong), simply choose another product.
Think about this: If 200 million Americans each refuse to buy just $20 of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor fast!!!
Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this NOW.
Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans that help one another out and Nobody can take us and our fellow citizens for granted.
Choosing to buy AMERICAN MADE products FIRST is one way you can help save our country and the small business owners that are struggling across America.

I want to thank the 22 shooters we had join us today. I had my doubts about range conditions after all the rain, but the weather Gods smiled upon us once again and the range dried out considerably which made for a good shoot today.

Congratulations go out to "Sunny Spurs" who was our top Cowgirl today and to "Totes Magoats", who was our Top Cowboy and our overall match winner. Way to go you two!

From Brazos Bo, for Plum Creek Shooting Society:
Don’t forget the shoot this Saturday, August 7, and to make your reservation for the great lunch.

I just wanted to take a second to thank our work crew that came out Sunday for the work day. We got a lot accomplished and I really appreciate the dedication, it was hot and most of the projects were not in the shade. Everyone was whipped but they hung in there.
The next time you see these guys please make it a point to say thank you. If it weren't for guys like them, there would be no Cowboy Shoots.
So hats off to SCOOTER, FOUR ACES, SHINBONE BOB, TEXAS JOHNNIE JAMES and WHISKEY KID y'all are the best!

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls,

We sure could use your help.

We have several improvements, repairs and maintenance items we need to tackle out at the range and we sure could use some help with them. None are too large, but there are several of them we need to get taken care of.

Two Spurs was kind enough to put together a
"to do list":

DEFAULT- WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES.

1) Complete mowing and w**d eating. (The club has a push mower and w**d eater so if you have a favorite riding mower feel free to bring it!)

2) Thoroughly scrape lead build-up and “loose” lead from all shotgun KD’s. Tools needed: flat scrapper and hammer.

3) Remove all non-usable CD targets and stands from down-range and place in a pile for Lyman to pick up with his Bobcat. *A small trailer will be provided. Needed: gloves and possibly something to flip over targets that are lying flat on the ground.

4) Relocate the old A-frame on Stg-2 to Stg-3 for use with CD targets.

5) Put the top back on the Stg-3 ULT and add support material as needed. (Screws and lumber in Stg-4) Needed: circular saw, screw gun.

6) Utilizing the used corral board on Stg-3, patch up the firing line fence by the Stg-3 ULT. (Remove barbed wire.) Needed: circular saw and screw gun.

7) Trim low hanging limbs in front of the Stg-5 Barn. Needed: pole saw.

8) Screw tin on the ULT Stg-8/LT Stg-9. Needed: screw gun. (Socket head roofing screws will be provided.)

9) On Stg-3: Mount the 3 cowboy KD’s together (previously used on Stg-2 as rifle KD’s) on surplus 4x4’s that are on the left side of Stg-4. For the pair already mounted together on 2x4’s, swap out the 2x4’s for 4x4’s. Needed: saw, screw gun, socket. ( Lag bolts will be provided.)

10) Hook up fan in S-5 and verify operable.

If you could spare a few hours on Sunday July 25th at about 8:00AM we would certainly appreciate it.

Hope to see you at the range and thank you in advance,

Brazos Bo

This is so good….

WHAT DOES LOVE MEAN?
The problem is,
We look for someone to grow old together,
While the secret is to find someone to stay a child with!
(Charles Bukowski)

What does LoVe mean to 4-8 year old kids? Slow down for a few minutes to read this...💕

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does love mean?' The answers they got were broader, deeper, and more profound than anyone could have ever imagined!
'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore... So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.' Rebecca - age 8

'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.' Billy - age 4
'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.' Karl - age 5

'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.' Chrissy - age 6

'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.' Terri - age 4

'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.' Danny - age 8

'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and just listen.' Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)
'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.' Nikka - age 6

(we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)
'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.' Noelle - age 7

'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.' Tommy - age 6
'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.
He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.' Cindy - age 8

'My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.' Clare - age 6
'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.' Elaine - age 5

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.' Chris - age 7
'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.' Mary Ann - age 4

'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.' Lauren - age 4
'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image!) Karen - age 7
'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross...' Mark - age 6

'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.' Jessica - age 8
And the final one: The winner was a four year old child whose next
door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, 'Nothing, I just helped him cry.'
(this made me cry!)

Now, take a few seconds and post this for others to inspire and spread LoVe like butter!
And then be a child again today!💖😘💕

Message from Plum Creek Shooting Society!
We had a great turn out for the Special Workday out at the Range today!
Scooter, Shinbone Bob, Big Iron Patnode, Two Spurs, Joe Darter, Whiskey Kid and Texas Johnny James, joined Bessie James and myself and got busy.
We got a lot accomplished, the framework for a new roof over the loading/ unloading table for stages 8/9 is done and ready for the tin roof. The old fence rails on stages 8 thru 10 were replaced with Corral boards and looks really good.
The Marshal's Office floor was in need of some repairs, as well as the steps on the side. Several signs and the Hitching Post put back up. Some mowing and straightening up around the range in general. Still got a lot to do, but we made a big dent in it.
I want to give big shout out and a thank you to all those that came out and put the sweat equity into the range for us all to enjoy.
Last but far from least, Miss Jacki deserves a very special thank you. She came out and fixed us up with an awesome Memorial Day lunch.
It's so good to see the level of Team Spirit we have at PCSS!

SEE FOLLOWING MESSAGE FROM THE PLUM CREEK SHOOTERS:

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls,

I hope today finds you and your families doing well.

We are planning a special work day on Monday morning May 31st (Memorial Day) to get some much-needed range maintenance done, as well as a couple of small projects. If you don't already have plans for the day, we sure would appreciate the help getting things whipped into shape on the range. We plan on Starting about 8:30AM, but come on out when you can.

Two Spurs has a list here of some of the repairs and tools needed. If you would like to tackle one of these specifically, please let me know.

1. Someone to replace old fence rails. (Will need a circular saw, long cord, and screw guns for working on the fence. A chain saw would make quick work of removing the old 4x4 rails.)

2. Someone for the Marshall’s Office - Circular saw, Sawzall or jig saw, and screw gun for lowering the big rise in the door way. (Can’t remember if the exit door flooring was shored up??)

3. Someone to rework the Fort drop out table if that hasn’t already been done.

4. Someone with a screw gun to help Two Spurs with framing out the top on the S-8/S-9 ULT/LT. *Two Spurs will bring circular saw, cord, ladders, and his screw gun.

We will also likely need some assistance with some mowing and w**d eater work, etc.

If you can join us out at the range, please let me know at: [email protected].

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much,

Brazos Bo

Quack! Quack! Rain Out!

PCSS Shoot Cancelled Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2. Well dang! While the rain is a blessing for our grass, crops, creeks, rivers and lakes, it doesn’t do much for Cowboy Action Shooting. Forecast for Friday and Saturday at the Comanche Country Ranch is a better than 60% chance of rain (80% on Saturday) with rain forecast to continue into Saturday evening. While no rain in the forecast for Sunday, veteran shooters at Plum Creek know that if it rains for 2-3 days right up to shoot time, the range will be soaked, mud and puddles everywhere, and not enough wood chips to soak it all up. So the Board has reluctantly decided that we should cancel the shoot for this weekend.

Workday tomorrow cancelled. With no shoot on Saturday or Sunday and rain forecast for Friday morning, no need to have a workday this Friday. Stay home and stay dry.

Plum Creek Shooters:
One Day Shoot Saturday, April 3

Notwithstanding the 30% chance of rain, we had 39 shooters join us for 6 stages of Cowboy Action fun. WE arranged the posses so that we shot the stages that were open to the sky first before the rain got serious and finished under the roofs of the Livery, the Barn, and the Bathhouse. The stages were straightforward, with very few Ps and not that many misses.

Afterwards many of us stayed for lunch and while the rain pelted down outside we scarfed down fried fish, hush puppies, beans, and salad. Then, oh my gosh, 5 different desserts. Even a sampling of 3 (my choice) was too much—definitely worth staying for.

We had 10 clean shooters (25.6 %). They were Kickshot, Kit Carson, Dodge City Mike, Dragon Hill Dave, Abilene, Circuit Judge, Gold Dog, Capt. George Baylor, Shinbone Bob, and Rittmeister. Great job guys.

Our top ten shooters were Dragon Hill Dave, Joe Darter, Brazos Bo, Kettleman, Dodge City Mike, Kit Carson, Diamond Kate, Kickshot, Big Iron Patnode, and Alamo Andy.

It was good to see Diamond Kate and Texas Cutie come out and join us with a couple of friends and a new shooter, J.W., who has moved here from Florida where he shot. Hope to see all of them back again.

Our Top Lady was Diamond Kate and our top Man was Alamo Andy.

Save the Date! The Battle of Plum Creek will be the first weekend in November, November 6-7. Sidematches, 10 stages of Cowboy Action Shooting, a banquet in the Pavilion, and a whole lot of fun. More details later.

Our next shoot will be May 1-2, 6 stages each day. Celebrate the arrival of May with a 2 day shoot at the Comanche Country Ranch. RV hookups (power and water) available, rooms at the Hotel and the Bunkhouse. Make it a shooting weekend.

See ya’ at the CCR!
