Greetings, Facebook pals. I haven't posted on here in over 2 years! In pure honesty, I got to the point where I simply couldn't stand having to manage multiple social media accounts, so I chose to just keep up with Instagram and kicked this Facebook account to the dust. All the while, here it is still existing, accumulating new people into this circle where I've offered nothing for a long time.

So hello again, and I look forward to connecting with you on here, through posts and comments! I will still have an auto message on for direct messages, asking you to email me for inquiries and questions about flowers... respectfully, I just do not have the capacity as a human being to check multiple accounts for messages on a daily basis.

I'm looking forward to sharing more updates about our flower farm with beautiful pictures of flowers, messy pictures of soil prep and dirty work, and keeping you up to date with offerings from our fields! Thanks for stickin' with me 🌸🌸🌸

This zinnia did the cutest thing✨

Flowers growing in the field are so unique and might I say precious, even. It’s hard not to admire every one of these while harvesting, although I try not to cause it would otherwise slow me down when cutting hundreds of stems at a time. Zinnias and dahlias are my two favorite ones to watch because their faces are all so unique - blooms differ even when they’re growing off the very same plant! Everyone loves dahlias; I get it, they’re easy to love and have the reputation of being harder to grow and, perhaps, are more out-of-reach for some people. But zinnias don’t get the recognition they deserve.

A comment I get frequently about zinnias is “oh I grow tons of those” or “oh those are so easy to grow.” My response is, yes, they’re easy to grow which makes them even more *magnificent.* So what if they’re easy to grow? I say bless their little flower hearts for their rainbow of colors and shapes and sizes; their long, strong stems standing up through wind storms; their drought tolerance; their love for the sometimes unbearable heat of July — all incredible qualities we flower farmers rely on for cut flowers 🌸🌸🌸

Zinnias were some of the first flowers I grew, among the veggie gardens I worked in, just about 10 years ago. Growing zinnias, and witnessing their funny variations from bloom to bloom, is what made me love flowers.

Cheers to EVEN MORE zinnias in 2022! 🍾

Enjoying this week off between xmas and the new year (except when I got antsy this afternoon and started making our Jan-Feb to-do list 😱🆘)

Trying my hardest to unplug & turn off the screens. There are exciting new things coming for next season and I can hardly stand not making new spreadsheets to organize the work to come!! …at least we love what we do around here to the point that spreadsheets are actual fun 😛

Some things I’ll be doing in the next 1-2 weeks include a social media & blogging schedule (speaking of which, there’s lots of new flower/gardening content in my blog if you need some helpful reading material); zipping up that Jan/Feb to-do list; dividing dahlia tubers on the “warm” days; uploading the latest wedding floral photos to my website portfolio; and drafting my seed starting schedule. Among a zilli other things, including things unrelated to work, like house projects and hanging with our adorable new kitty, Pepper, who we just got two days ago! When people ask me what I do in the winter I usually say “nothing” and it’s a bold faced lie 🤫

No flowers, just our faces today 🌸🌸 I’m grateful for so many things this year. Amazing trusting clients, community support, our friends at , sun that shines, soil that drains, and tens of thousands of beautiful blooms. That just scratches the surface. What I’m most thankful for is my incredible life partner, Jesse, who holds my hand and lifts me up everyday through this flower journey, whether it’s a good day or a bad day. He helps me bloom so I can help my little corner of the world bloom brighter every year. And vice-versa. I wish you sweetness this holiday, in whatever capacity that means for you.

Merry Christmas🎄 love, Fran & Jesse

The name of these garden roses (top 3) is Soul Sister, and one of my favorites. The petals are softer than velvet and smell sweet — dare I say peachy. I can’t help but dig my nose in (without abandon, might I add, as these are completely bee loved & chemical-free!) 🍑🍑🍑

Kayla’s sweet bouquet from last summer was made using flowers & foliage that were 100% grown on our flower farm… something I am so proud of and striving for more of in 2022 💐

Within the next 2 years I hope to be entirely independent from the traditional wholesale flower market. I think this is a goal for most farmer-florists but not everyone achieves it for different reasons (including low production & crop failures, meeting specific client requests outside the realm of the farm, among other things)

Using only our own-grown ingredients will mean we’ll never do anything out of season, which I’m 💯% okay with. It will require our clients to fully trust our floral & foliage expertise, and it will require me to gently say no to non-farm flower & greenery requests (which, to be honest, I’m also totally okay with. I’ve found so many of my clients to be trusting & gracious, encouraging my expertise).

All of the above will require me to be more communicative about this local floral design model and the reasons behind how wonderful it is: the unique variety of ingredients, the unparalleled fragrance & freshness, ZERO chemicals, all the way down to the heartwarming nod we give to our heirloom roots as natural creators using earth abundant materials.

I also can’t omit mentioning our deep commitment to not just conserving, but enhancing, our lands by way of regenerative agriculture practices on the flower farm. Our farm not only provides welcoming habitat for visible fauna & flora — it’s also home to a living, life-supporting network of soil microbes that steadily works as a carbon sink. We don’t just recognize climate change — we acknowledge the part our business plays in the big picture. Rather than throw our hands up in the air in existential crisis, we’ve made a decision to contribute to climate change mitigation in the best ways we know how — use the land as a tool to reduce atmospheric carbon, and to stop contributing to a system that does the opposite (the traditional wholesale flower market). Our impact may be small but I believe in the power of the trickle-down effect.

There are many layers here. I hope you’ll welcome this ongoing conversation 💞💞
