"True beauty is born through our actions and aspirations and in the kindness we offer to others."
Wow, there are no amount of words that could come close to describing how big of a blessing it has been to serve as Miss Laurel County Homecoming this past year. I was met with endless amounts of love, support and opportunity the second I was crowned. There were so many things I had the pleasure of being apart of this year like volunteering at the LCH Chicken Festival booth, the state fair, Christmas on Main parade, the Parkinson’s in Motion 5K, and the MS walks.
If there’s one thing I can say about the people of Laurel County- it’s that they are consistent in the way they love and care for one another. Everyone shows up and is willing to give you that extra hand when needed.
I have had the absolute pleasure of meeting so many amazing people this year and building friendships that will last a lifetime and I will forever be grateful for that. This title has allowed me to grow in so many ways and I know it will do the same for the new Miss Laurel County Homecoming.
There are so many people to thank but first and foremost, my biggest thanks I owe all to God. Nothing is possible without Him.
Next, my mom, my step dad and my sister. They’ve all helped me in each event, parade, you name it- they were there helping, participating, and listening to me stress out about every minor detail that just HAS to be perfect. They never complained one time.
Now, Blakely Callahan, my Teen Laurel County Homecoming. You are not only the role model of so many young girls but you’re my role model as well. You carry yourself with such grace and have exquisite confidence and knowledge. You’ve made this year so much fun and I have loved serving with you, you’re the little sister I never had and I’ll always cherish our memories together. I love you!
To Chelsea Philpot and the Homecoming board members, for all they’ve done and continue to do every single year for such an amazing tradition that I have had the honor to know and love. I almost didn’t compete and Chelsea really saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. She cheered me on and helped encourage me every step of the way. She goes above and beyond in every aspect and I cannot thank her enough.
Thank you to all of my friends, family and the community of Laurel County for being the best of the best and for all of your support and kind words, it really helped me get through some of my most challenging days and that does not go unnoticed.
To the next Miss Laurel County Homecoming,
I want you to take pride in wearing this sash and crown but also understand the true meaning behind them, I want you to be willing to help others and do as much as you can to make a difference in this community. Pray and lean on God in every moment. It is an honor and we all have so much faith in you. You are in great hands.
This will forever be the best year of my life. Thank you.
For the last time, I am your Miss Laurel County Homecoming 2023- Kaitlyn Ramey
