Longmont Live Blues This is to keep you updated on the great Blues bands that come to the historic and beautiful Dickens Opera House in Longmont, Colorado.

The very best of the Colorado Bands play there as well as on occasion some top national Blues bands will be coming to Longmont. Please help us support original live music. We will also occasionally let you know of other great national Blues artists coming through the area as well as some info on the great Blues Festivals in this state.

Hamilton Loomis Friday night Jan. 31st at the Dickens Opera House. Kick off the Super Bowl weekend with this great entertainer\guitar player\vocalist\harmonica player\songwriter from Texas. Amazingly tight and professional band.

Don't miss Ryan McGarvey at the Dickens Opera House in Longmont tonight. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets are $15. McGarvey is a monster young uber talented guitar player from New Mexico. With 3 European tours this year under his belt, McGarvey is on the fast track to stardom. Here is what music promoter John Catt said about McGarvey's show in Winter Park last night: " I feel like I was abducted by a band from outer space. What a display of the electric guitar."

Ahh--a beautiful late August Colorado Sunday---what to do? How 'bout coming down to the Dickens Tavern outdoor patio from 2 to 5 for some live one man blues dished out by Bobby Walker. Bobby tours the world with the Eden Brent Band and also plays regularly with Mike Zito. Luckily Bobby has a few days off from his touring and will be tearing it up on the Dickens patio this afternoon. And yes if you want to run inside and see what Peyton Manning is up to--you can catch some action inside at the Tavern. Combine all that with the $5 BBQ food special---how can you go wrong?

This Saturday August 25th Big Bill Morganfield--who is the son of Muddy Waters--yes, THE Muddy Waters--will make his initial appearance at the Dickens Opera House. Shows like this don't come around to Longmont very often. Showtime is 8pm and tickets at the door are $10.

This Sunday afternoon---today---the Colorado Blues Society run International Blues Competition for Colorado starts with the preliminary round of the Solo\Duo Competition at the Dickens Opera House at 2pm. Admission is $5. The eventual Colorado winner will travel to Memphis, TN next year to compete for the International award.

A very special show this Friday night at the Dickens Opera House with Too Slim & the Taildraggers from Seattle, WA. Too Slim has been nominated for Blues\Rock CD of the Year at this year's Blues Awards Show in Memphis, TN. Come check out the Dickens' new and improved sound system see why this band has been on the road for 25 years with 17 CDs out.

This Friday night March 16th---The Dustin Pittsley Band from Tulsa, OK returns to the Dickens Opera House. Definitely on the upbeat and rocking side of the blues--Dustin Pittsley is an amazing guitar player with a very tight band. Mostly original rockin' blues but they do some covers. The last time I saw them they did a couple of wicked covers of All Along the Watchtower and Whippin' Post that were the best versions of those two songs I have heard in a long, long time.

In Sept. of 1891 at the historic Dickens Opera House in Longmont, W.W. Downings' New Orleans Creoles made an appearance with a troupe that included musician\singer Billy Young and 10 Creole burlesque women. This Thursday night at the Dickens the New Orleans tradition continues when Kenny Neal stops in with Sammy Dee backing him up. Tickets are $15 at the door. The music starts at 8pm.

Saturday night should be epic. The Dustin Pittsley Band from Tulsa, OK is at the Dickens Opera House. They are going to show the Broncos game at the Opera House and during halftime Dustin Pittsley will rock the place and then after the fairy tale season of the Broncos continues with the thrashing of the arrogant Patriots---Dustin will play a couple rockin'\bluesy sets.

Trampled Under Foot will be at the Dickens Opera House in Longmont on Sat. Jan. 28th. It is fundraiser for Blue Star Connection that buys musical instruments for children with cancer. LLB will be out tonight at the Dickens Opera House to check out the Cedar Avenue Blues Band--we have never seen them and can't wait to check out something new. It is the 130th birthday of the Dickens Opera House---WOW!!!. Lots of great blues coming in 2012: Dustin Pittsley from Tulsa, OK on Sat. Tickets are now on sale for Trampled Under Foot at The Dickens Opera House on Sat. Jan. 28th. This is a fundraiser for the Blue Star Connection. PLEASE check out their website to see what they do. Wednesday Dec. 21st Denver's own Hazel Miller will be at the Dickens Opera House for her 2nd annual Christmas\Holiday show.
January finds two national blues acts coming to the Dickens that you need to mark your calendar for:
Sat. Jan. 14th--The Dustin Pittsley Band from Tulsa, Oklahoma--they tore it up the last time they were at the Dickens and also at the Blues From the Top Festival in Winter Park.
And the real blockbuster: The national blues magazine "Blues Blast" 2011 Reader's Poll Blues Band of the Year: Trampled Under Foot comes to the Dickens on Sat. Jan. 28th. Come out and see why Blues fans from all across the USA and Europe rave about this band. We think the female lead singer is the best female blues singer touring today. Ticket info for Trampled Under Foot will be coming soon and you will need to get tickets early.

This Friday night December 9th The Delta Sonics bring their Chicago style blues to the historic Dickens Opera House stage. Westword magazine named them the best blues band in Denver in 2011. The Delta Sonics this year won the Colorado Blues Society International Blues Challenge contest and will be sent to Memphis in Jan. 2012 to compete for the prestigious International Blues Challenge crown. This will be a fun night--get there early--get a good seat--have some dinner--and enjoy one of the best bands Colorado has to offer.

Lots of cool blues coming to the Dickens Opera House in Longmont. This Saturday Sept. 10th--the Catfish Kray Blues Band (female lead singer, horn section) from Denver stops back in. On Sat. Oct 1st the Dustin Pittsley Band from Tulsa, OK brings their power trio blues\rock sound to Longmont for the first time. They kicked ass and opened quite a few eyes in Colorado with their set at the this year's Blues From the Top. Hope to see you at both shows.

Friday Oct. 14th the Dickens Opera House has booked Too Slim & the Taildraggers from Seattle, WA. IF you want to keep seeing national touring bands of this caliber, help us pack this venue on that night so they will be enticed to bring in more national acts.

The first round of the Colorado Blues Society's International Blues Competition will be Sunday July 24th at the Dickens Opera House at 2pm. $5 cover. The winner of this round will move on to the finals with a chance to go Memphis next year and compete for the national title.

Regretfully we will no longer be booking national blues acts into the Dickens Opera House. We hope that you continue to support the Dickens--it is a wonderful venue. They do have some regional and local blues acts coming to their historic stage including Todd Tijerina from Albuquerque, NM on this Sat. May 21st. Hope to see you there.
