Here’s a great post from Zilla Products showing what’s in a turtle or tortoise’s shell!

Ever wonder what’s going on under those shells? 🐢💚

Turtle shells offer built-in protection but they’re also a part of a turtle’s skeleton. Unlike us, their ribs and spine are actually part of their shell! This unique structure helps in defense and buoyancy in water.

The shell has two main parts: the carapace (top) and plastron (bottom). The carapace shields from above, while the plastron guards the belly. Together, they provide excellent protection from predators along with flexibility for movement.

Most shells are covered in scutes, which are hard, bony plates made of keratin (the same protein in our nails). Scutes grow with the turtle, adding layers over time, a bit like tree rings.

And that’s just part of the reason why turtles are so fascinating! 🐢✨

Our amazing animal ambassadors brought the wild to a local Girl Scouts group here in Myrtle Beach today, sparking curiosity and excitement with a fun-filled, hands-on learning adventure!

It was so great having our friends from CZRReptiles LLC down here to visit us in South Carolina! We became fast friends and family and are so looking forward to their next visit!

I can’t say enough amazing things about these two guys! Zach and I felt like instant family and we become the best of friends. We miss them already 😢

If you guys are in the Myrtle Beach area wether you live there or are planning to vacation there, PLEASE contact Out of the Ark Educational Animal Shows they will give you an experience you will never forget! They do parties, school events, shows at Broadway at the Beach and more! They have amazing things in the works and so proud and excited to stand by their side through it all!
We will be visiting them more often as Ryan is also training Zach in venomous snakes. Something amazing about what we all do is you can NEVER learn enough, there is always more to learn and experience.
We went herping twice together and both times I felt like I was living out my childhood dreams of looking and catching reptiles in the bush like Steve Irwin did! I had two of my very own Steve Irwin’s to watch and learn from (Zach and Ryan). It was incredible.

Go give these guys a follow, you’ll see me posting a lot of pictures and reels with their animals in the coming days!
