The Gathering of the Eagles Canoe Journey is returning to Lopez this Sunday, arriving at Spencer Spit and camping there overnight. (Note: NOT Odlin this year.)
This is the 4th year of this canoe journey with the Alliance of Earth, Sky and Water Protectors and, once again, it promises to be both fun and inspiring.
Here's what's happening:
Sunday, May 19:
-1 pm: Official canoe landing, Spencer Spit. There will be 2-3 canoes arriving, the Hawaiian crew is coming again, Carvers Camp returns and a group of indigenous climate activists new to the journey will be joining.
Do plan to be on the beach before 1pm to see the arrival. Discovery Pass fees are being waived for the landing - and we're grateful to State Parks and Ranger Meghan for that act of support!
- 4 pm: Lopez Community Center - doors open for Community Potluck Celebration that begins at 4:30pm. -- Please bring a potluck dish to share and utensils if you can. We're providing salmon.
- 6 pm: Protocol and Celebration will follow the potluck and will end with a closing prayer.
Monday, May 20:
- 8 am: Canoes depart Spencer Spit for a stopover at Odlin.
- 10 am: Water Ceremony at Odlin Park before the canoes head to San Juan Island.
