Two spirits
(native americans and first canadians of the glbt community)
among the indigenous people of this land there have existed, for countless centuries, individuals with varying gender identities, s*xual expressions, and social roles that many in the west consider a โ€œnormโ€ of some sort. constituting multiple masculine/feminine constructs, these socially aware individuals are known today as โ€œtwo-spiritedโ€ โ€“ sharing a mixed gender consciousness believed to be the result of being born with both a male and female spirit. first โ€œdiscoveredโ€ by those who came to conquer and colonize north america, two-spirited people have been documented in over 155 tribes in every region of the continent. often taking spouses of the same biological s*x, they were treated with great respect within their communities (where same-s*x marriage was common) until western influences and prejudices introduced foreign concepts of anti-homology, contaminating a sacred tradition lieng. interest in two spirits first appeared before the modern gay rights movement and has been studied with increasing interest as generations ended. but in fact, two spirits preded awareness of glbt as a cultural phenomenon by centuries. as the founders of a community with more than two gender identities in north american, their complex tradition represents a richer understanding of human diversity and gender expression than conventional western societies today. believed to possess a special understanding and empathy, many two-spirited people are respected as shamans, healers, and teachers, but are still misunderstoodโ€”even by those who are gletโ€”and are often overlooked in the conversation about glbt contributions and how they are represented and portrayed in history and contemporary society. soul leadership continues to work to undermine the effects of the territorial possession regime in order to discover and restore the two souls to their proper place of honor and respect in their community.

Coming from a military familyโ€”her father was a Marine veteran, and her mother worked in the Navyโ€”Haaland faced many challenges before earning her degree from the University of New Mexico and later obtaining a law degree. Entering politics with the goal of advocating for Native American rights, she became one of the first two Native women elected to Congress in 2018 before joining the U.S. Cabinet in 2021. As a leader, Haaland has focused on issues such as protecting sacred Native lands, combating excessive resource exploitation, and promoting policies to support education and healthcare for Indigenous communities. Notably, she played a key role in restoring the Bears Ears National Monument and advancing the MMIW initiative to address the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women. Her contributions are not only politically significant but also symbolize the rise of Native Americans in the U.S. leadership system.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBERT TAYLOR
Robert Taylor was born in July 7, 1963 in Melbourne, Australia, and grew up in a Western Australia mining town. Before taking to a life onscreen, Taylor went through many occupations, including mining, lifeguarding, bouncing, and working on an oil rig-during which period he narrowly averted death during a shipwreck in the Indian Ocean.

At the age of 24, Taylor enrolled in the Western Australia Academy of Dramatic Arts, committing himself to an acting career from there on out. He made his screen debut shortly afterward with an appearance on an episode of the drama series "The Flying Doctors" (Nine Network 1986-1993), and landed his first regular television role just one year later.

Taylor joined the Australian soap opera "Home and Away" (Seven Network 1988-) for a 20-episode stint, playing the scheming romancer Nicholas Walsh. Additional recurring roles followed, including a starring position in the crime drama miniseries "The Feds" (Nine Network 1993-96) as Superintendant Dave Griffin. Taylor soon found success on the big screen, appearing in major films like "The Matrix" (1999), "Vertical Limit" (2001), and "Ned Kelly" (2003). After batting around a handful of smaller parts on film and television, Taylor returned to center stage as the star of the crime drama series "Longmire" (A&E 2012-), playing the titular Wyoming sheriff who returns to law enforcement following the death of his wife.

"""Sioux Chief Long Wolf & Family"", ca. 1880.~ โ€œA Stranger Hears Last Wish of a Sioux Chief
Long Wolf went to London with Buffalo Bill's show and died there in 1892. Thanks to the struggles of a British homemaker, his remains will be returned home.โ€

May 28, 1997 |WILLIAM D. MONTALBANO
TIMES STAFF WRITER
BROMSGROVE, England โ€” โ€œAfter a restless century in a melancholy English graveyard, the remains--and the spirit--of a Sioux chief named Long Wolf are returning to his ancestral home in America because one stranger cared.

The stranger is a 56-year-old English homemaker named Elizabeth Knight, who lives in a small row house with her husband, Peter, a roof repairer in this Worcestershire village near Birmingham.

""I am a very ordinary sort of person,"" she said.

The sort who writes letters, not e-mail, who makes no long-distance phone calls, has no fancy degrees, has little worldly experience, who never gets her name in the papers. The sort who turns detective and historian and raises a transatlantic fuss because her heart is moved and her sense of fair play is outraged.

This is the story of how heirs of Middle England and the Wild West have joined forces to fulfill a dying wish made more than a century ago.

For Knight, the story began the day in 1991 that she bought an old book in a market near her house. There was a 1923 story by a Scottish adventurer named R. B. Cunninghame Graham that began this way: ""In a lone corner of a crowded London cemetery, just at the end of a smoke-stained Greco-Roman colonnade under a poplar tree, nestles a neglected grave.""

In the grave, under a stylized cross and the howling image of his namesake, lies Long Wolf. He died at 59 in a London hospital on June 11, 1892, the victim of bronchial pneumonia contracted in what was then a crowded, dark, gloomy, industrial city as far as anywhere on Earth from the Great Plains of North America.

""I was moved. I kept taking the book down, imagining Long Wolf lying there amid the ranks of pa
