The Oscars might be postponed, but we’re sweeping up here at RomCom Weddings. (I said “we” but it’s just me 😉.)

Awards use to motivate me, especially as a filmmaker. Until I realized that external validation was fueling me more than the internal love of storytelling. So I cut all concern for awards out of my life. I don’t watch any award shows anymore because I’ve intentionally de-valued their importance in my life. Doing something meaningful shouldn’t be measured in the number of gold statues collected, but instead by the positive impact you’ve had in warming a single heart. In moving someone so momentously that they will remember your act of kindness, your creativity, and the space you created for joy all the rest of their days. That kind of success cannot be measured. And truth be told, more often than not, the artist never even knows of the impact they’ve had. That is true, meaningful success.

That all being said… it’s nice to fell appreciated!

Happy New Year! It’s a new beginning, so allow me to reintroduce myself. I’m Nico Raineau, a Professional Wedding Officiant and filmmaker specializing in stories that make hearts swoon and bellies jiggle. What I enjoy most is creating lasting, meaningful memories that become a part of your life. You know that one movie you watch over and over again because it holds a special place in your heart? Well, I try to do that. Sometimes with movies but every time with your wedding ceremony. Here are some more fun facts about me...

(1) I’m half French. My father is from Paris and much of my family lives there. I’m fluent enough to order pain au chocolat but by no means could teach a class in applied chemistry. So, if you need a ceremony performed in French, je suis ton mec!

(2) I directed and co-wrote a romantic comedy with my wife called HOOKING UP. It came out on March 20, 2020 - literally the weekend cinemas shut down nationwide due to the Covid 19 pandemic. We lost our big Hollywood premiere, our theatrical release, and everyone was too busy buying toilet paper to know that it even existed, so it never really had its day. BUT you can still rent it and enjoy it at home. And if you look long and close enough, you may even catch my cameo!

(3) This year, my wife and I will celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary. I never expected to be a professional wedding officiant. It’s not exactly something your High School guidance counselor suggests you major in. Every ceremony I officiate reminds me of the vows I made to my wife and keeps me accountable. It’s a beautiful job, one that I believe has kept me inspired in my own marriage. I try to sprinkle that inspiration into every marriage that I officiate.

My books are open for 2025 and I’ve already started sessions with a few of my couples! It’s shaping up to be another busy year and I’d love to be a part of yours. So give me a shout and let’s chat about how to make your wedding day unforgettable.

Congratulations to Tharsis & Brandon, who tied the knot during a simple signing ceremony with me at the courthouse this morning. And these two weren’t the only friends I made - their dog’s name is Miko, so naturally we hit it off too.

Unless anyone hits me up for another “Signed, Sealed and Something Special” license signing this month, this closes out my 2024 wedding calendar. Huzzah!

Congrats to the newlyweds! Let me know if you need a dog sitter 🐶

This past weekend was a first for RomCom Weddings. November 16th was the first time that TWO RomCom Wedding ceremonies were performed in separate places at the exact same time. I was already booked and when a new couple expressed how much my voice means to them and how important it was that I write their ceremony, I made it happen for them.

Dan Gordon was the first person I thought of to fill my shoes. He’s officiated for many of our mutual friends, has a laidback, fun and personable vibe, and I knew I could trust him with the kind of professionalism that I hang my reputation on. Plus, as an actor turned politician turned school teacher, he can handle a crowd of knuckleheads better than anybody!

We called each other after our ceremonies to share stories and celebrate. I congratulated him on officially becoming a professional wedding officiant, and he congratulated me on expanding my wedding business to new heights. I’m proud of the brand that I’m building in this industry and hope to continue finding ways to grow, bringing as many couples as possible the experience of having a RomCom Wedding. To quote the bride from Dan’s ceremony, “THIS is how every wedding should be done from now on.”

Thank you, Dan, for bringing joy and your own special sauce to the ceremony. I knew he’d crush it and he did. The first step in possibly expanding RomCom Weddings into a multi-op. One hilarious and heartfelt love story at a time.

Nikki & Jesse are the kind of couple who makes me feel seen. When I told them that, unfortunately, I was already booked during their wedding time, they wouldn’t take no for an answer. In telling me how much Nikki wanted me to write her wedding ceremony she said, and I quote, “My heart is absolutely set on it!” When a couple values your voice, vibe and unique approach to ceremonies that much, well, I couldn’t say no. So, I wrote their ceremony and then passed the torch to a trusted friend and seasoned “Uncle Bob” whom I hand selected to officiate for them on the day.

These two have a special spot that is very meaningful to them. Jesse asked Nikki to be his girlfriend and then later proposed to her at the same spot, an area called “The Breezeway” at the club where he works. The same club where they have celebrated anniversaries and, this past weekend, tied the knot. So, I suggested that after the ceremony, The Breezeway is where they should sign their marriage license. And that’s exactly what they did.

These photos with them were taken at their rehearsal. On The Breezeway. Where the many chapters of their love story have unfolded. Congrats to the newlyweds and thank you for seeing me. I see you too, and y’all are fine as hell!

My friends and fellow officiants…

No one asked for this letter, but I woke up feeling compelled to share what I’ve learned about officiating marriages since becoming a ceremonialist. There’s much to fear today, but the truth is that progress is inevitable. So, those who wish to turn back the clock or oppress have much more to reckon with than those working to see a brighter tomorrow today for all. And I’ve come to realize that secular, non-denominational professional officiants, although we may not always see ourselves as such, help to lead the march toward inclusive, unconditional and safe communities where what’s different is what’s embraced.

I’ve never felt more connected to a craft and to an audience than when performing a ceremony for these two. Their generosity of spirit, their joy, and their love for each other is both infectious and affirming. But really… I’ve never felt funnier in my life! Thanks to them, I now know what it feels like to stand in front of a crowd and bring the house down. Honestly, it’s a high worth chasing forever. But it’s their story, their personalities, their passion for each other that made it possible.

Monica & Alex, you two are GOATs. And on your one year anniversary, it makes my heart sing that - now - there are three of you! Congratulations on becoming parents. Your kiddo is going to be legendary.

“Today we celebrate the union of Evelyn Mazor, a classy fashionista from Southern California, and Jeremy Airehart, a Kansas county bumpkin. In Disney terms, that’s like Anastasia, the Russian Grand Duchess marrying Aladdin— the diamond in the rough. Or should I call you JJ? Or Jeremy Joe? Or Jay Joe? And are you Evelyn, or Ev, or Yeva? Honestly, you both have so many names I just assume you’re running from the law! For today’s purposes, let’s go with Jeremy & Evelyn.

Despite their unlikely love story, these two are perfect for each other, having fallen head over heels so instantly, so instinctively, so... insanely fast... that it leaves no logical explanation other than to assume that this, their finding one another, has always been their destiny. So how did their whirlwind romance come to be? Full disclosure, after speaking with them both separately, their versions of the story don’t always match up, so most of what I’m about to tell you is true. The rest has been embellished for comedic effect. But, in continuing with the theme, their story really does begin like a classic children’s Disney fairytale... at a sexy poolside day-club in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!”

This is how Jeremy & Evelyn’s ceremony began. And now it’s their one year anniversary. More importantly, they now also have a beautiful baby girl - Amelia.

And yes, that means her awesome parents gave her the name Amelia Airehart!

Every so often, I connect with a couple on a deeper, emotional level.

I’m often regarded as just a vendor, here to help plan and elevate the ceremony - and I’m completely comfortable with that. I want the attention to be on the couple. That’s my job and I value their experience. But I met Ashley & Sinan just as we were all experiencing a hard dose of life. Planning their ceremony came while all of us were juggling some family health troubles. Our sessions always seemed to begin by checking in with one another. My goal is always to make my couples feel seen, but every once in a while my couples make the effort to ensure that I’m seen too. That’s Ashley & Sinan.

Their DTLA wedding was beautiful, in many ways unassuming, and very much a reflection of their cool vibes and cultural heritages. Not to mention, it was planned and executed to perfection by Frankie of Cluster Events. (I ain’t got no shame for them plugs!) Family felt to be at the center of it all, and family seems to remain the focus. To this day, when we exchange emails, they never fail to ask about and wish my family well.

Usually, I post about the FUN. And we did have fun, as these photos can attest. But today I wanted to post about gratitude. And connection. And kindness. Weddings are happy days, and it takes a deep soul to balance that with the awareness that it’s also just a snapshot. Within every photo are people carrying magnitudes. So, to the couple in these photos, thank you both for being genuine and thoughtful. I appreciate the time taken to make space for me in a similar way that I strive to do for my couples. Ashley & Sinan, you are real ones.

Jina & Tyler’s wedding was very special to me. Not just because they flew me to beautiful colorado. Or because their families are so wonderfully welcoming. Or because I miss their incredible team of vendors. Or because Crooked Willow Farms is one of the coolest venues I’ve been to. It’s because Jina and I are friends and, as the story goes, we actually met when she was my boss on a TV series that I had the privilege to direct a couple episodes of. And her wedding is what brought us back together. I’m honored to have been a part of it. I took a walk down memory lane and had forgotten about this fun (edited) excerpt from the ceremony…

“So how did this versatile performer get hexed by this witch’s love spell? Well, as the story goes, Jina was, at the time... the editor-in-chief of a major publishing house when she discovered that she was going to get deported back to her native Canada, so – in need of a green card - she convinces Tyler, her long-suffering personal assistant, to act as her fiancé...

Okay, so that’s actually the plot of the 2009 Romantic Comedy THE PROPOSAL, starring Sandra Bullock & Ryan Reynolds—a movie that Jina & Tyler sometimes joke is the story of how they met because they find it more interesting than how they actually met. But how they actually met did begin like a classic romantic comedy. That is to say... with Jina rejecting him!”

What I remember most about this ceremony was how much we laughed. Happy One Year Anniversary, Jina & Tyler. Wishing you a lifetime of witchy manifested happiness.

Back from La Belle France and ready for (presumably) my final ceremony of the year. LFG! 🇫🇷🥖💥

Wanting to officiate for Nick & Nicole was a no brainer. They read romance novels, were working with a romance novelist as their planner, cut together a rom-com wedding montage to play during their reception, and love the movie About Time - one of the greatest rom-coms of all time. If they hadn’t found me, I would have lost all faith in the universe. But my faith has been restored! Because not only do Nick & Nicole share my passionate love for all things rom-com, they are also wonderful, kind and fun-loving humans. Plus, theirs is a rom-com to rival some of the best out there. Nick & Nicole are friends to lovers with an epic will-they-won’t-they that everyone in their lives kind of assumed... yeah, they probably will. And they did! Here is an excerpt from their romantic comedy ceremony... “So, they’re still just friends. They are definitely not dating. They aren’t dating when they walk his dog together and get beers after. Or do the Sunday crossword together and get beers after. Or charge his electric car - together - and get beers after. It’s just beers! A date is when you share a meal together. Which they aren’t doing, obviously, because they aren’t dating! But, whatever, people need to eat, so they continue not dating even as they cook Hello Fresh meals together. Spend every day together. And call each other when they aren’t together. Until the day Nicole realizes that it feels a whole lot like she has a boyfriend! But she doesn’t have a boyfriend. She just has a best friend. While my colleagues are at Wedding MBA elevating each other, I’m at my desk working on something that I hope will elevate the entire industry and officiants EVERYWHERE.

Christina told me on her wedding day that she has been low-key excited to see her RomCom Wedding movie, and it’s finally here! Just like her romance with Jake, it’s worth the wait. Whether it’s Christina knowing Jake was the one from the first moment they met, or how he basically became her drug dealer, or his epically hilarious proposal story, or the fact that she claims to not have been ready to settle down for countless years yet whipped out a wedding Pinterest board seconds after becoming engaged... the love story of Chrisitna & Jake is legendary. And they had a wedding celebration to match their unrivaled style. Skate deck guest books, fire playlists, temporary tattoos, and She’s All That projected over cinematic candelabras; this party was pure magic. And at the center of it all is two passionate romantics who were made for each other. I would have been so bummed to miss this party, but thankfully they asked me to stay and MC the reception. Is it any wonder that these two’s lives are filled with meaningful coincidences and amusing anecdotes? I think not, because they are magical people whose marriage ceremony presented a few “simple serendipities” to mark the occasion. Here is a condensed excerpt from their ceremony detailing their first date… “They meet at the beach parking lot in Santa Monica because, even though she’s new to the area, she still wants to show him her little corner of California. The moment they see each other, they hug. Russ takes her hand and asks, “So, where are we going?” Jocelyn says holding hands with him felt like two magnets that clicked right away. I quote: “It was almost uncomfortable how quickly it was comfortable.” The discomfort comes when Jocelyn suggests that they leave their personal items on the beach while they walk in the ocean and Russ remembers that she is very new to Los Angeles and doesn’t yet realize that they will 100% be robbed if they do that! But, he’s charmed by her romanticism and she somehow convinces him to do it. At one point, Russ takes a picture of her and Jos is surprised by how happy she looks in the photo. She says she looks so genuinely herself and realizes in that moment that this person is going to be very important to her.” Congratulations to the newlyweds.
