Congratulations to Tharsis & Brandon, who tied the knot during a simple signing ceremony with me at the courthouse this morning. And these two weren’t the only friends I made - their dog’s name is Miko, so naturally we hit it off too.

Unless anyone hits me up for another “Signed, Sealed and Something Special” license signing this month, this closes out my 2024 wedding calendar. Huzzah!

Congrats to the newlyweds! Let me know if you need a dog sitter 🐶

This past weekend was a first for RomCom Weddings. November 16th was the first time that TWO RomCom Wedding ceremonies were performed in separate places at the exact same time. I was already booked and when a new couple expressed how much my voice means to them and how important it was that I write their ceremony, I made it happen for them.

Dan Gordon was the first person I thought of to fill my shoes. He’s officiated for many of our mutual friends, has a laidback, fun and personable vibe, and I knew I could trust him with the kind of professionalism that I hang my reputation on. Plus, as an actor turned politician turned school teacher, he can handle a crowd of knuckleheads better than anybody!

We called each other after our ceremonies to share stories and celebrate. I congratulated him on officially becoming a professional wedding officiant, and he congratulated me on expanding my wedding business to new heights. I’m proud of the brand that I’m building in this industry and hope to continue finding ways to grow, bringing as many couples as possible the experience of having a RomCom Wedding. To quote the bride from Dan’s ceremony, “THIS is how every wedding should be done from now on.”

Thank you, Dan, for bringing joy and your own special sauce to the ceremony. I knew he’d crush it and he did. The first step in possibly expanding RomCom Weddings into a multi-op. One hilarious and heartfelt love story at a time.

Nikki & Jesse are the kind of couple who makes me feel seen. When I told them that, unfortunately, I was already booked during their wedding time, they wouldn’t take no for an answer. In telling me how much Nikki wanted me to write her wedding ceremony she said, and I quote, “My heart is absolutely set on it!” When a couple values your voice, vibe and unique approach to ceremonies that much, well, I couldn’t say no. So, I wrote their ceremony and then passed the torch to a trusted friend and seasoned “Uncle Bob” whom I hand selected to officiate for them on the day.

These two have a special spot that is very meaningful to them. Jesse asked Nikki to be his girlfriend and then later proposed to her at the same spot, an area called “The Breezeway” at the club where he works. The same club where they have celebrated anniversaries and, this past weekend, tied the knot. So, I suggested that after the ceremony, The Breezeway is where they should sign their marriage license. And that’s exactly what they did.

These photos with them were taken at their rehearsal. On The Breezeway. Where the many chapters of their love story have unfolded. Congrats to the newlyweds and thank you for seeing me. I see you too, and y’all are fine as hell!

My friends and fellow officiants…

No one asked for this letter, but I woke up feeling compelled to share what I’ve learned about officiating marriages since becoming a ceremonialist. There’s much to fear today, but the truth is that progress is inevitable. So, those who wish to turn back the clock or oppress have much more to reckon with than those working to see a brighter tomorrow today for all. And I’ve come to realize that secular, non-denominational professional officiants, although we may not always see ourselves as such, help to lead the march toward inclusive, unconditional and safe communities where what’s different is what’s embraced.

My full blog post is linked in my bio.

The work that we do is important. Do not forget it.

I’ve never felt more connected to a craft and to an audience than when performing a ceremony for these two. Their generosity of spirit, their joy, and their love for each other is both infectious and affirming. But really… I’ve never felt funnier in my life! Thanks to them, I now know what it feels like to stand in front of a crowd and bring the house down. Honestly, it’s a high worth chasing forever. But it’s their story, their personalities, their passion for each other that made it possible.

Monica & Alex, you two are GOATs. And on your one year anniversary, it makes my heart sing that - now - there are three of you! Congratulations on becoming parents. Your kiddo is going to be legendary.

10 out of 10. I give it an 11 out of 10. Too Fire Too Fabulous.
Happy Anniversary.

“Today we celebrate the union of Evelyn Mazor, a classy fashionista from Southern California, and Jeremy Airehart, a Kansas county bumpkin. In Disney terms, that’s like Anastasia, the Russian Grand Duchess marrying Aladdin— the diamond in the rough. Or should I call you JJ? Or Jeremy Joe? Or Jay Joe? And are you Evelyn, or Ev, or Yeva? Honestly, you both have so many names I just assume you’re running from the law! For today’s purposes, let’s go with Jeremy & Evelyn.

Despite their unlikely love story, these two are perfect for each other, having fallen head over heels so instantly, so instinctively, so... insanely fast... that it leaves no logical explanation other than to assume that this, their finding one another, has always been their destiny. So how did their whirlwind romance come to be? Full disclosure, after speaking with them both separately, their versions of the story don’t always match up, so most of what I’m about to tell you is true. The rest has been embellished for comedic effect. But, in continuing with the theme, their story really does begin like a classic children’s Disney fairytale... at a sexy poolside day-club in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!”

This is how Jeremy & Evelyn’s ceremony began. And now it’s their one year anniversary. More importantly, they now also have a beautiful baby girl - Amelia.

And yes, that means her awesome parents gave her the name Amelia Airehart!

Happy anniversary, you two. Up, up and away!

Every so often, I connect with a couple on a deeper, emotional level.

I’m often regarded as just a vendor, here to help plan and elevate the ceremony - and I’m completely comfortable with that. I want the attention to be on the couple. That’s my job and I value their experience. But I met Ashley & Sinan just as we were all experiencing a hard dose of life. Planning their ceremony came while all of us were juggling some family health troubles. Our sessions always seemed to begin by checking in with one another. My goal is always to make my couples feel seen, but every once in a while my couples make the effort to ensure that I’m seen too. That’s Ashley & Sinan.

Their DTLA wedding was beautiful, in many ways unassuming, and very much a reflection of their cool vibes and cultural heritages. Not to mention, it was planned and executed to perfection by Frankie of Cluster Events. (I ain’t got no shame for them plugs!) Family felt to be at the center of it all, and family seems to remain the focus. To this day, when we exchange emails, they never fail to ask about and wish my family well.

Usually, I post about the FUN. And we did have fun, as these photos can attest. But today I wanted to post about gratitude. And connection. And kindness. Weddings are happy days, and it takes a deep soul to balance that with the awareness that it’s also just a snapshot. Within every photo are people carrying magnitudes. So, to the couple in these photos, thank you both for being genuine and thoughtful. I appreciate the time taken to make space for me in a similar way that I strive to do for my couples. Ashley & Sinan, you are real ones.

Jina & Tyler’s wedding was very special to me. Not just because they flew me to beautiful colorado. Or because their families are so wonderfully welcoming. Or because I miss their incredible team of vendors. Or because Crooked Willow Farms is one of the coolest venues I’ve been to. It’s because Jina and I are friends and, as the story goes, we actually met when she was my boss on a TV series that I had the privilege to direct a couple episodes of. And her wedding is what brought us back together. I’m honored to have been a part of it. I took a walk down memory lane and had forgotten about this fun (edited) excerpt from the ceremony…

“So how did this versatile performer get hexed by this witch’s love spell? Well, as the story goes, Jina was, at the time... the editor-in-chief of a major publishing house when she discovered that she was going to get deported back to her native Canada, so – in need of a green card - she convinces Tyler, her long-suffering personal assistant, to act as her fiancé...

Okay, so that’s actually the plot of the 2009 Romantic Comedy THE PROPOSAL, starring Sandra Bullock & Ryan Reynolds—a movie that Jina & Tyler sometimes joke is the story of how they met because they find it more interesting than how they actually met. But how they actually met did begin like a classic romantic comedy. That is to say... with Jina rejecting him!”

What I remember most about this ceremony was how much we laughed. Happy One Year Anniversary, Jina & Tyler. Wishing you a lifetime of witchy manifested happiness.

After 7 years together, either we now have a 3-year-old or my Benjamin Buttons disease has greatly accelerated.

Same farm. Same bridge. Slightly bigger family.
What a difference 7 years makes. One of the reasons we chose to get married at was because we wanted a place with open doors that would welcome us back whenever we wanted. And now it’s a joy visiting with our son.

Year 7 for my wife and I really stressed the “in sickness and in health” part of this whole marriage thing. You often get married on your best day, but marriage matters most on the hard days. This year, I witnessed my wife stare cancer in the face and then march right through that bitch. Her courage, focus and continued dedication to our family and our son has inspired new depths in our love and commitment. Simply put, she is incredible. I’m lucky to have her. Our son is lucky to have her. And because he’s a spitting image of his dad, she’s now lucky to have two of me.

Happy 7th wedding Anniversary, Lauren. What do you say we maybe dial down the stakes for year 8, yeah?

Happy 1 year anniversary for Tiffany & Ivan! What started on coffee meets bagel lead to becoming travel partners, and then romantic partners, and now life co-pilots. Here’s a quick blurb from their RomCom ceremony…

“Ivan has always said that he wants to be in a power couple. To which Tiffany reminds him, “You’re in one!” She tells him that she’s driving the car, all he needs to do is get in and she will lead them to their best life. Ivan admitted to me, “She is driving the relationship. I’m clueless, but I’m sure glad she is not!” But here’s the thing about pilots... they’re nothing without their navigator. And that’s Ivan. In order to reach any worthwhile destination, they need each other. Providing balance. Co-pilots. Partners joined on a shared journey through the road trip that is life. Marriage may be the promise, but love is the fuel. Without love, there’s nothing to propel you through every wrong turn and flat tire, charting the course through every new adventure that begins with a beckoning sunrise. Tiffany and Ivan, your road trip has brought you to this moment, and marriage will be your next adventure together.”

Wishing you both continued laughter, whether living out a Hollywood blockbutser or a sad awards drama. Either way, it’s your inspiring story.

Lexie & John have a meet-cute for the ages. When they detailed for me how their love story began while laughing hysterically as they tried on silly straw eye-glasses at a CVS, well... I couldn’t not bust them out during the ceremony and surprise them with a wedding gift mid-nuptials. Here’s an abridged version of their RomCom Wedding and how it all went down...

“Although Lexie & John met in middle school, it’s not until Junior year that these two finally connect. It’s Spring Break and they’re on a school sponsored college tour to the East Coast, and on the very last day, John’s at CVS buying some airplane snacks when he runs into Lexie. They start joking around about the weird stuff you can find at CVS and think, “What things could we bring on the airplane that would make the flight attendants think we’re super dumb, but not dumb enough to get us kicked off the plane?” There were a lot of contenders, but the funniest items they land on are silly straw eyeglasses. The thought of sipping their ginger ales through these in front of the stewardess has them peeing laughing. Until one of Lexie’s classmates pulls her aside and says, “Can you guys stop flirting, we have to go!” “We are not flirting!” Lexie retorts. Only to then realize… “Oh, yeah, no, maybe we are flirting.”

After that, Lexie says she was crushing hard. So, they start hanging out: seeing movies, chillin’ at each other’s houses, and returning to CVS to find more of those stupid glasses straws. As Lexie puts it, they were doing it for the bit.”

[Later, just before their vows...]

“Now, before we move on, and while we’re all having some fun together, there’s one more thing that Lexie & John need tonight in addition to their wedding rings, something without which their marriage just wouldn’t be complete. So... I stopped at CVS on the way over here. If this bit really is that formative for you two, then what better day than your wedding day to do it for the bit!?”

I know most folks give the couple a gift after the ceremony, but I’m the officiant so I get special privileges. Thanks for having some fun with me up there, Lexie & John!

Tiffany & Ivan’s ceremony was a standout. And it’s not because we were on our own little love island separated from their guests by a charming koi fish stream, or because a hotel workers strike threatened to stop their nuptials, or because LAFD fire engines and ambulances created the soundtrack to their ceremony. It’s because no matter what, they kept things joyous and fun. In other words, we had a good time. Look out for more posts as their one year anniversary approaches next month! Read below for their full review 👇🏼

“I was absolutely blown away by how amazing our ceremony was – and it’s all thanks to Nico! Nico truly crafted an experience, meeting a few times before the wedding to get to know us better and hear our stories of how we met each other in order to write the perfect “meet cute” love story for our ceremony. He also helped us with our vows – and on our big day, we realized with delight that he had written a series of small themes and touchpoints in his speech and each of our vows that wove it all together beautifully.

Nico helped us realize in our first meeting – the ceremony IS the wedding. That really clicked for us, so after we heard that we went from thinking of it as a “formality before the party” to “the experience that brings us all together.” He helped us include a mindfulness moment and even a moment where we gave our guests 30 seconds to take selfies with us in an otherwise unplugged ceremony. So much fun!

Thanks to Nico’s expertise, we were able to create a truly magical experience that became the highlight of the whole wedding! People were talking about the ceremony all night and I had not one but SEVERAL guests tell me that it was the best ceremony they’ve ever been to. Thank you so much, Nico!! PS: Nico is fun and easy to work with, so the prep sessions we had turned out to be a fantastic ramp up that helped my hubby and me remember all the wonderful details of how we met and fell in love. The whole experience was truly magical!”

Part 2 of Nina & Jay’s review 👇🏼 (Continued from my previous post. Yes, that’s right, their review is so long and loving it requires TWO posts)…

“Nico’s background in crafting love stories and romantic comedies instilled us with unwavering trust in his ability to capture the essence of our relationship. We made the delightful decision to wait until our wedding day to hear the love story he had written for us, and it was an experience we’ll cherish forever. His storytelling effortlessly blended humor, romance, and reverence, keeping our guests enraptured from beginning to end. Not only did Nico bring our vision to life with grace and charm, but he also facilitated a sense of unity among our loved ones. Family members were moved to consider renewing their own vows, a testament to the profound impact Nico had on everyone present. His infectious energy and genuine warmth created an atmosphere of joy and connection that permeated every moment of our ceremony.

In addition to his extraordinary talent as an officiant, Nico’s professionalism and attention to detail were unparalleled. He guided us through the logistical aspects with ease, ensuring that all the paperwork was handled seamlessly. From confirming our marriage license to offering gentle reminders, Nico’s support was invaluable every step of the way.

Beyond his role as an officiant, Nico became a cherished confidant and source of inspiration for us. His insightful questions during our one-on-one meetings reignited the spark of our love, reaffirming our commitment to each other in the most meaningful way possible. RomCom Weddings and Nico have truly enriched our lives and blessed us with a wedding day beyond our wildest dreams. To anyone seeking an officiant who will infuse their ceremony with love, laughter, and heartfelt sincerity, look no further than Nico. He is a rare gem who exceeded all our expectations and left an indelible mark on our hearts.”

If you need me, I’ll be in a puddle under the Mandap Chuppah.

Excerpts from a recent and beloved review! 😍😍😍 Read below for the full review 👇🏼

Well… the first half of their review at least. Nina & Jay wrote me such a thoughtful, life affirming, and yes long teatimonial that Instagram won’t allow it all to fit in this caption! So, here’s the first part. See my next post for the rest…

“Nico from RomCom Weddings was an absolute dream come true for our special day. From the moment we connected with him, we knew we had found someone truly remarkable to officiate our wedding. Ours was a union that celebrated the merging of three cultures and religions, and we understood the importance of finding an officiant who could honor and respect each facet of our diverse backgrounds. Nico not only met but exceeded our expectations in every way possible.

Choosing an officiant is one of the most pivotal decisions for any wedding, and we can confidently say that selecting Nico was the highlight of our entire celebration. Jay and I didn’t have a mutual friend who could fulfill this role, but Nico seamlessly stepped into that void, taking the time to genuinely connect with us as a couple. He listened attentively as we shared our desires for the ceremony, allowing us to express ourselves authentically while weaving together elements from each of our cultural traditions.”

Happy 1 Year Anniversary to Laura & Andrew, a couple with one of the most charming will-they-won’t-theys of all time (which is why I struggled to keep things brief), but through it all their friendship is what brought them back together. Here’s an excerpt from their RomCom Ceremony...

“In telling me their story, Laura says they always just “started talking again,” but Andrew remembers it differently. He says it was always Laura – that she had a weird sixth sense for reaching out right when he needed her. When something traumatic happened in his life, when he needed a friend, somehow she always knew. And she was always there. And this time, with his birthday coming up, she offers to fly out and visit him.

The moment he picks her up at the airport, Laura is reminded of how handsome he is. Plus, he has a stable job, his own apartment and drives an Audi! This guy finally has his s**t together! Which, let’s be honest, is pretty hot! And Andrew notices that Laura has adopted much more of a California vibe: she’s got that blonde hair, tan skin, long eyelashes look going on. Plus, apparently she’s vegan now and you can’t get more California than that! Over the course of their weekend together, Laura realizes that no matter where she is in her life, Andrew always accepts her for who she is. That he very well may be the first person to ever make her feel truly, completely safe. This is when Laura says she becomes so suddenly sure that she is in love with him. So, he asks her YET AGAIN if she wants to be his girlfriend. This time, Laura says: “Yes!... But not if you live in Michigan!” So, Andrew makes a few calls and, only a few weeks later, he packs up and moves to California. After more than five years as friends, they were finally, officially... official.”

Congrats on one year of being officially, LEGALLY official. What an honor it was to be your officiant. See you in 9 years for the vow renewal??

07/29/2024

When a couple tells me they have an inside joke about Ring Pops... you better believe I’m gonna make it moment in their ceremony. Victoria & Jake are real ones: so funny and fun-loving, and I knew they’d get a kick out of this surprise. Here’s a modified excerpt from their ceremony...

“There was already talk of popping a ring! Oh sorry, I read that wrong: there was already talk of a Ring Pop. Neither of them remember how it started, but Jake would joke about proposing to her with a candy Ring Pop. It became an inside joke where Ring Pops were the punchline any time either of them did something that exhibited marriage material. When Jake would be charming or thoughtful, that’s Ring Pop behavior. Or when Victoria would make him laugh, it was a Ring Pop moment.

Victoria was starting to suspect that maybe Jake was afraid of marriage, but really he had been secretly planning his proposal to happen during their vacation to Europe in 2022. As they walked to dinner that night, a few odd things occurred that should have tipped Victoria off that something was afoot. The first is that, all along the beach, attractive Europeans were sunbathing... naked. And for some reason Jake was not excited about this?? The second red flag is that Jake suggested they stop to take some photos. Never in her life has Jake been like, “You know what would be swell, I would just love to get a cute pic!” And so it was there, on a Spanish beach without any bare breasts in sight, that Jake asked Victoria to be his wife by presenting her with a ring... Pop. Well, sort of. A 3D printed Ring Pop box, inside which was a diamond engagement ring.”

So, naturally, when it came time to present them with their wedding rings, I couldn’t NOT surprise them with Ring Pops instead! What kind of RomCom Officiant would I be if I hadn’t!? This moment was one for the books, when Victoria & Jake put their ring pops on before I swapped them out for the real ones.

Happy Anniversary, you two! I hope you enjoy some ring pops today!
