Five years ago today, our Rom-Com was released nationwide. It’s a story about two people who learn that in order to overcome personal obstacles and find love, they first need to learn to love themselves. I wrote it with my wife when we were still dating, we packaged the film while getting married, and we (exec) produced it together as husband & wife. It’s a story I had the idea for since college but I never would have succeeded in bringing to life without her. The trials of getting it made are another story, but I like to think of this film as a product of partnership. We built it together, faced it all side by side, and we’re still standing to tell the tale. It’s a chapter in the story of our marriage.
Five years ago today I was a different version of myself. Since then my life has experienced immeasurable and unpredictable change. I became a father, a home owner, a professional wedding officiant, an award winning screenwriter, a displaced wildfire evacuee, and the husband of a cancer survivor. I’ve experienced joys beyond imagination and f*ck-my-life level lows. And it all seems to have started when this movie was released on the same day the Covid-19 pandemic changed the world. It’s been a hell of a ride. All I know right now is that I’m desperate to make another film, one that actually defines me more accurately, and to dig deeper into the profound meaning of performing marriage ceremonies.
Anyway, if you haven’t seen the movie, check it out for some good laughs and some good feels. We all need that now more than ever.
The exchanging of rings is a highlight of every wedding ceremony. Every officiant has their own way of doing it. I continue to revise and refine what I say during this moment as I learn more about the history and meaning of this ritual.
Did you know that men only started wearing weddings rings in the 1940s during WWII in order to symbolize their commitment to their partners back home, which the jewelry industry than capitalized on in creating marketing campaigns targeted toward men?
Both partners wearing rings is not a time honored tradition. Here’s a short snippet of how tend to make it special, with customization for each individual couple.
Lexie & John’s ceremony was a dream. I am absolutely relieved that @belairbayclub was unharmed during the recent Palisades wildfire and cannot wait to celebrate there again soon with Nicole & Sakib! This venue showcases what getting married in SoCal is all about.

Broenyn & Alex celebrated their 11 year anniversary this past weekend by getting married. It was an honor to preside over their ceremony with a wedding party comprised of friends who have been with them from the very beginning. These two have already weathered some challenges but they are deeply committed to one another. Alex is committed to not asking her what’s for dinner every night and vowed to just make what he wants so that she’s doesn’t have to decide, and Broenyn is committed to not responding to tough emotional conversations by covering her head with a blanket and hiding from him like a Halloween ghost. Marriage level unlocked.
This team of vendors was boss level, by the way. Everyone was so chill and attentive and ON IT. F*ckin’ dream team! This couple knows how to pick ‘em. Congrats to the newlyweds!

I’m fortunate to tell many charming meet-cute and proposal stories, but few couples have as good of a first date story as Paulina & Ken. Admittedly, it’s SO GOOD that this story commandeered much of their ceremony. When the bride thinks the date is going so poorly that she pretends to be asleep in the groom’s car… that kind of story ingredient gold deserves being made into a full meal. And theirs was yummy!
We had so much fun celebrating these two as they got married, with the help of their ADORABLE pup Stanley. And now these two nursing school buddies are wifey and hubby. Who would’ve thunk it??
Congrats to the newlyweds 💕

Jocelyn & Russell have a love story full of simple serendipities, seemingly insignificant coincidences that solidified their romance. As fate would have it, these simple serendipities manifested during their marriage ceremony as well - and a few of them even had to do with me!

That time during a wedding ceremony when… I told a story about a butt plug.
I don’t often get a couple that truly is an open book and is down for me to go HAM, so when I do you better believe I take full advantage of the goods. Thanks Andrea & Stephen!

Before every ceremony, I like to welcome the guests to the wedding, make any announcements the couple has requested in a playful way, and give the Bride & Groom a proper introduction. This sets the tone that (1) the ceremony is in confident hands and (2) no one here is gonna have to slog through another boring-ass wedding snooze fest - we’re gonna have some fun and do things a little differently. Welcome to your RomCom Wedding ceremony!

🎁 Looking for the perfect wedding gift this year?
💝 Give the gift of a RomCom Wedding.
🤷🏼♂️ Why?? Because I have no other discernible skills!
💍 For real though - you won’t regret it if you do but you might regret it if you don’t.

🚨PRO TIP🚨 Don’t invite guests to take photos of the couple at the START of the ceremony —> they don’t know what to expect yet. Instead, let everyone take selfies DURING the ceremony once they realize how much fun we’re having! Make space for an unforgettable moment 📸
I LOVE it when my couples choose this optional addition to their ceremony. And I’m getting a new phone in 2025 so that my selfies will look even better! Shout-out to all my kick-ass couples whom I took selfies with this year…
