Homemade cranberry sauce
Ingredients:
- 12 oz fresh cranberries
- 1 cup brown sugar or granulated sugar (I ran out of brown)
- 1 cup water or orange juice for extra flavor i used ๐
- Optional: Zest of 1 orange, a cinnamon stick, or a pinch of salt
***** my special ingredient is real vanilla extract for some warmth****
Instructions:
1. **Rinse the Cranberries**: If using fresh cranberries, rinse them under cold water and remove any stems or bad berries.
2. **Combine Ingredients**: In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and water (or orange juice). If youโre using orange zest or a cinnamon stick, add those in as well.
3. **Cook the Sauce**: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes. The cranberries will burst, and the sauce will begin to thicken.
4. **Taste and Adjust**: Taste the sauce and add a pinch of salt or more sugar if desired. Remove from heat.
5. **Cool Down**: Let the sauce cool to room temperature. It will thicken further as it cools. If you used a cinnamon stick, you can remove it at this point.
6. **Serve**: Transfer the cranberry sauce to a serving dish or airtight container and refrigerate until ready to serve. It can be made a few days in advance!
