“I was born William Melvin Hicks on December 16, 1961 in Valdosta, Georgia. Ugh. Melvin Hicks from Georgia. Yee Har! I already had gotten off to life on the wrong foot.” Bill Hicks was so much more than comedy. He was a social critic willing to take on the deep and dark topics before most other comics. He wasn’t a laughs per minute, pun filled ball of happiness. He was closer to that person we are right before we fall asleep at night, overwhelmed by the world. Crazy to think about his impact despite only living to the age of 32.

The mad man of comedy, Jonathan Winters was certifiably insane. One of the greatest, if not the greatest on the fly comedians of all time. There are numerous clips from The Dean Martin Show where Dean can barely get through a scene because of Jonathan’s ad-libs. Personally, he may be my () GOAT for his ability to deliver absurdity with absolute seriousness. Also, without Winters, there is no Robin Williams.

Back before comedians attacked each other, Mr. Warmth was the quintessential crowd attack comic. Try watching him on a Dean Martin Roast without gasping. And he kept the same energy until his passing at the age of 90. Comedians are skewered today for far, far less. He will always be an icon of comedy lore past. Also shoutout to for portraying him in The Irishman, well done 👏🏾

is our generations Pryor. It is interesting to see a performer like Chappelle exist in the current social climate. Would some of the greatest comedians of all time still have had the impact that they had if their detractors had such large voices?

Another trailblazer on our list. We may not agree with what she says all the time, but we can’t discredit her contribution to comedy and being an absolute staple on television for the past few decades. She was even an animatronic on the worst ride of all time at Disney (google Superstar Limo and go down that rabbit hole).

Norm was Norm. One of the most unique voices comedy has ever known. When the head of NBC told SNL to stop telling OJ Simpson jokes, he doubled down and got fired. When he got choked up on Letterman, so did we. We will always remember Norm and his contribution to comedy and sports bookies’ wallets.
