As the year winds down, I am reflecting on 2023 as much as I am looking forward to 2024. This was a great year with publications in Vogue, Glamour, Tatler, and more. Watching my pieces go out to every corner of the world is gratifying and an absolute honor.

I am so excited to spend this week loving on my family and being grateful for my small business, and I can’t wait to show you all the new styles I’ve been working on for next year!

Custom belt and garter combination using heirloom lace from the mother of the bride’s wedding dress. This project is from earlier this summer. The bride provided me with several large pieces of lace that had aged beautifully into ivory. I started by testing a couple small pieces to clean — and discovered the base color was a bright white. We opted to use some of the more gently aged pieces of lace so the belt would be more off white to ivory.

I arranged pieces of the flowers and leaves from the heirloom lave on off-white grosgrain ribbon, embellishing with hand sewn freshwater pearls and velvet florets. We made two garters — one using e heirloom lace and following the theme of the belt, and another with a simple cluster of freshwater pearls to toss. The toss garter is a little bit smaller than the heirloom garter so they could comfortably worn together.

I love working on projects like this. At first I am nervous and sick with worry that I’m going to ruin something (in this case, a piece of her mother’s wedding gown), but as the pieces come together I’m filled with excitement and honor that I can put my hands on something that’s been loved for years and will be loved for years to come.

Grateful for the ability to do what I love. This has been the busiest and most rewarding year in the life of my little accessories business. I love making these pieces so, so much, and watching the orders pile in and seeing photos of brides and beautiful women wearing these pieces fills my heart with so much gratitude and love. Work culture has been under a microscope — one of the good things to fall out of this nightmare of a pandemic — and I am proud and grateful to actually be doing my dream job. If you’d asked me as a child what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would’ve said fashion designer. This is close enough… or maybe I’m just not grown up yet.

Custom beaded veil. Over 300 hours of hand sewing glass beads, rose quartz, and moonstone. Pictured is the crown of the veil with scattered, staggered rows of beads. Base is a light ivory silk organza.
