One day a person asked me what does this mean “do not stir up not awaken love until it pleases”. That question was asked of me three years ago and it has remained engrained in my mind ever since. I find myself continually seeking the answer. The quote comes from Song of Songs, which is a love story in the Bible. It tells a story of a woman and man falling madly in love and enduring through fears, trials, insecurities and so much more..
.
By that simple question I was lead down a path seeking the understanding behind that verse.
.
“Do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases”
.
In a beautiful, yet odd way I find myself understanding it more and more throughout my filmmaking journey. Making these films has stretched me to places I never thought possible. It has taught me to soften my heart towards the possibility of love.
.
To be quite honest I was always quite pessimistic about love. I thought love was a facade and married couples were not actually happy. It all felt so fake to me.
.
That was until I became a wedding filmmaker. I found out that love was actually real. I could see it. I could see it in my couples eyes. In the way that they held each other. The way that they danced. The way that they laughed.
.
Love is not perfect and I am typically only seeing a very small portion of a persons story. But after years of pessimism and fear I have learned that love is something to be embraced. Love is possible. It is simply a matter of allowing it to happen when the time comes.
