From finance to florals, from fashion to flowers—some of the most inspiring florists took bold steps to embrace their creativity and connect with nature.

Today is Small Business Saturday, and we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible journeys of florists who left behind other careers to follow their passion for blooms! 🌼

Every bouquet you buy has a reason behind it—a birthday, an anniversary, or simply to make someone's day. But have you ever wondered about the journey that brought these florists to this colorful, creative world?

We’ve gathered two inspiring stories from our florist friends:

1. .gifts.flowers
"Before I became a florist, I worked in finance in the car industry in my home country, Venezuela. I earned my degree as an economist, but when I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 with my baby daughter, I sought a more creative career that allowed for flexibility. In 2015, I opened my shop, Aquarela (“watercolor” in Spanish), with my mom—inspired by a flower watercolor class at the LA Arboretum. I realized then that nature, colors, and textures were my true passion!"

2. Becca Goldman .in.bloom
"Before becoming a florist, I spent 10 years as a wardrobe stylist, but flowers truly stole my heart."

Support your local florists today and every day—their stories are as beautiful as the flowers they create!

If you're a small business owner, mention your page in the comment section so we can support each other and help each other grow.

We’re in the LA Times!

The Original Los Angeles Flower Market is featured in the latest article, "The L.A. Flower District is full of surprises. Here’s a DIY guide for newbies" 🌸. It’s a great read that highlights what makes this place so special – the people, the flowers, and the creativity that happens here every day.

Some highlights:

~ Emmy-nominated costume designer Stanley Hudson shared how he shops for greens and fillers to create his dinner party arrangements.

~ Bride-to-be Emily Marriott saved big by doing her own wedding flowers, buying blooms like ranunculus, sweet peas, and roses to make stunning centerpieces with her family.

~ Vendors like Eliseo Valle (Stall #15) offer locally grown greens that add something unique to any arrangement.

~ Long Beach Realtors Loree Scarborough and Tessa Owen were holding several fat bundles of flowers for a client appreciation event. The bouquets they made would be gifts for their clients

We’re so grateful to the LA Times, writer Jeanette Marantos, and photographer Myung J. Chun for sharing this story. And a huge thank you to everyone who let their experiences be part of the article.

If you’ve ever been curious about the Market or are thinking about doing your own floral arrangements, this guide has some great tips.
