Yesterday, I found out about the Uvalde school shooting en route to DJ this awards night for high school students who excelled in their sport. It was so hard to hold back the tears as I watched the excitement and pride of the kids and their family because all I could think about was the children and teachers who were robbed of living out their lives to experience special moments like this. Countless milestones they'll never get to celebrate as a family. Schools should be sanctuaries of safety for these children, not a place where lives are lost. I'm distraught, my heart and soul hurts, but my pain and sorrow will never bring them back. I'm at a loss at what I can do to make sure another family will never experience this again. However, I can't just sit here and do nothing. As a start, I will continue to pray that God gives them the strength to get through this tragedy and that one day they will find peace in their heart. The other thing I can do is donate. Whether you think this is a mental health or gun violence issue, donate to organizations who are in line with what you believe in. If you don't think prayers and donations will help, contact your lawmakers, volunteer, vote, just please... do something!
