What is projection mapping?
Here at RabCup we receive a lot of inquiries for 3D Mapping in large scale settings and what we have seen is the art of projection mapping is changing in many ways.
One aspect is combining art, sound, interactive programming and projection mapping. This integration has the capability of elevating not only an art piece, be it a mural, a sculpture or a live performance. It also has the capability of engaging our audience in a way they have not yet experienced.
Here's a case study that highlights all of these aspects. RabCup Michael Skura, LUMOplay and Epson created a team that combined all of these aspects to create a sublime art show.
A BEAM OF LIGHT : TENDRILS EXHIBITION
"AJ Freysteinson says it took nearly a year to create the six-week exhibit, six months of that in planning and design, the rest in assembling the pieces, mounting the projectors, creating the programs, then disassembling it all and rebuilding it in the Riverside Art Museum.
To create the stunning visual effects, Meg Athavale and her staff had to treat the projectors illuminating each of the five pieces as a single large-screen display, each of which was controlled by a single computer workstation. They began by building an ultra-high-resolution PhotoShop file for each work, drew in the shapes of the individual glass sculptures, then imported them into LUMOplay.
For “Shy,” Athavale says she created individual ‘particle’ effects for each of the 500 pieces of glass. “Each sculpture contained at least one ‘particle’ system. The particles themselves were really simple: just some balls and ribbon trails that moved quite slowly. Inside the glass, they looked like little ghosts, and they created some very cool reflections on the wall.” Although the effects were simple, multiplying them across the work created an organic, lifelike whole."

RabCup was invited to create unique interactive LUMOplay
activations for the inaugural LA3C food, art and music festival.
Our team installed five systems for the thousands of participants over the course of the weekend!

About last night! Thank you Themed Entertainment Association for a lovely night at The Obscure!
Not only was the setting and the experience provided by The Obscure other worldly...it was very gratifying to get to meet our colleagues in the field. Very much looking to more of these events!
This weekend is the biannual Brewery Artwalk for Fall. The Brewery will be open 11:00am to 6:00pm to the public! Come visit some of our artists who live and create here at The Brewery!
RabCup will not be open this particular ArtWalk, so let's take a look at the most recent collaboration we've done with Michael Skura.
Since 2013 RabCup and Michael Skura have worked together on three art installations. The most recent being for a private collection in Costa Rica!
Enjoy!
The Advantages of Projection Mapping for Commercials and Video Shoots
Portability
Projection can do away with the need to have physical sets and props which consume a lot of time for building, transportation, setting up and at last dismantling. Projection, can also enhance your surrounding areas, props, even the talent in the shoot.
Flexibility
The projected content can be altered according to the needs of the projection backdrops. This is possibly one of the biggest advantages of projection mapping. If a space needs to be reset from lecture to cocktail mode, projected theming and branding doesn’t get in the way like a physical set, one button press and the reset is done. That too, without taking away the ‘Wow’ factor from the content.
Limitless imagination
There is so much one can experiment with in terms of visual effects that there is virtually no limit to it. Whether you want to design a logo or create a virtual world for your audience. There is always something more that you can do through projection mapping since it is heavily reliant on computer technology, which is a rapidly changing field.
Here is a commercial shoot for Kosas Cosmetics where we utilized projection mapping in various ways, can you spot them all?

LED screens are a great way to liven up your event, especially when our clients want to host an interactive *daytime* interactive activation.
Yes, we can use use projectors, sensors and screens or walls inside during the day, however, the advantages are that screens created from LED panels are brighter and completely useable outside during daylight hours!
We can utilize these LED panels as backdrops, video screens, interactive touch screens and more. Take a look at this event for Chevy "Home Run Derby" where participants got to step up to the plate and take a swing! #event #video #ledscreen #interactive #tech
Reasons To Use 3D Projection Mapping in Events
Event-goers are tired of the same old posters and video displays. When you use these tactics, you blend in with the crowd and risk boring your audience. Standing out and avoiding boring your audience is one of the main reasons to use 3D projection mapping in events, among many others.
Wow Attendees and Encourage Engagement
As previously mentioned, the same old event tactics get boring and make it harder to draw in attendees. 3D projection mapping, on the other hand, is exciting and unique. 3D projection mapping for events will attract attendees and promote engagement with your brand.
Consequently, you’ll have to do less work to sell your brand, as the projection will entice people to investigate.
Promote Interactivity
One of the best reasons to use 3D projection mapping in events is the availability of increased interactivity. Once you’ve caught the attendee’s attention, you want to continue engaging them, even after the initial “wow” moment. Interactive elements hold their attention longer by promoting personal involvement with the display.
Creating Memories
At the end of the day, you want people at the event to remember your brand. How likely will they remember if you use a banner and one-dimensional advertising products, just like every other brand? Not likely. 3D projection mapping is unique and will stand out in the crowd of competition.
Increase ROI
Event-goers often want to share their experience with friends, family, and social media followings. If your display is impressive enough, it may end up shared via word of mouth across social media channels. This increased brand recognition ultimately helps increase your ROI.
Standing out and making a lasting impact on attendees is one of the most important aspects of attending and hosting events. 3D projection mapping is a new and improved way to promote your brand.
