Caterpillar Foundation

Global powerhouse Caterpillar (CAT) asked RabCup to design and build an engaging, interactive, immersive game experience for attendees at CONEXPO, North America’s largest construction trade show with over 130,000 attendees.

As guests made their way through the game’s stages, they were presented with a set of environmental challenges and multiple resource options to respond to simulated world events. Live scanners tracked the RFID chips registered to each attendee, and when they completed the game, a charitable donation was made in their name raising $300,000 for Associate Equipment Distributor scholarships.

Topgolf Featuring OG Slick

Collaboration with Corporate Clients

The ambitious collaboration between Topgolf and RabCup set a new standard for nighttime entertainment and for fun-seeking golf enthusiasts. As evening descended, onlookers were awestruck by the remarkable metamorphosis of the TopGolf El Segundo, CA playground into a vibrant tapestry filled with electrifying visuals and engaging interactivity.

Entirely managed in-house, we used our skills for content creation, technology implementation, and onsite work to showcase OG Slick’s mural as a stunning backdrop for the event. This union of inventive technology and golf-themed entertainment reached unparalleled heights through RabCup’s projection mapping.

Meet AJ Freysteinson of RabCup Corp. in Brewery Arts Complex – DTLA

Today we’d like to introduce you to AJ Freysteinson.

Originally from Vancouver, B.C., AJ has been fascinated with lighting ever since he found a lighting board hidden in the back of his elementary school auditorium in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He graduated from Stephens College in 2002 with a B.A. in Technical Theatre. This experience allowed him to design in diverse production spaces and gain an unrealized appreciation for lighting modern dance. Aryn studied at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati in 2004 before joining LD Systems as a Senior Lighting Designer soon after.

It was in this period that he began to explore the converging technologies of lighting and video media, first with High-End Systems’ Digital Light series of moving head projectors, then with the Hippotizer series of media servers. For AJ, it’s all about the breath, that first moment when the curtain goes up and the audience becomes engaged for the evening. Lighting and media enhance what is presented on the stage, it heightens emotion, elevates mood, and creates diversity within the setting. As Founder and Creative Director of RabCup, AJ enjoys the freedom to lead the convergence of live theater, media, interactive computer processing, and the myriad innovations around us.

L.A. Traffic Jam for LoopNet

Offered a unique, large-scale marketing stunt to make an entire building disappear, corporate real estate client LoopNet approached RabCup for concept design and to produce their Los Angeles global launch event.

Scouting locations for functional architecture styles, facilitating public street closures, and even designing the concert stage, RabCup meticulously planned each detail.

Deemed a huge success, the event culminated with a private concert for brokers and investors featuring Train. Impressing attendees and industry professionals, LA Traffic Jam bested 5,000 submissions from more than 23 countries to win “Best in Show” at the Summit Creative Awards for global excellence in integrated marketing campaigns.

Cosmic Love – Reality Series for Amazon Prime

The Astro Chamber is a fully realized immersive space created for "Cosmic Love."

RabCup, along with our colleagues Go2 Productions Inc. and Pufferfish created what is now known as the “Astro Chamber”.

A fully immersive space with 360º projection mapping and the center “orb” which has internal projection. Content provided by Go2Productions features visual representations of the four elements, astrological signs, and charts…truly beautiful!

The show’s astrologers, best-selling authors Ophira and Tali Edut (The AstroTwins) guide our singles throughout the season by way of the mysterious Astro Chamber (voiced by Cree Summer).

Wiess Energy Hall at The Houston Museum of Natural Science

Entering the new Wiess Energy Hall during it's debut in 2017 visitors stepped off the elevator into the dynamic floor of a 21st-century offshore drilling rig populated by a motley crew of sci-fi robots.

Near the center of the cavernous new hall, a replica of a tritone rotary drill-bt fourteen feet in diameter spins vigorously overhead. The Hall spans 30,000 square feet-almost the size of a football field. Joining the completely redesigned “classic” displays will be a bonanza of entirely new exhibits, making the new hall the most contemporary, comprehensive, and technologically advanced exhibition on the science and technology of energy

Target Boombox

A Giant Red Boombox In New York City That Starts a Massive Holiday Dance Party When Plugged In
Improv Everywhere, in partnership with Target, built a giant red boombox in the middle of Manhattan’s South Street Seaport. The box, which was running low on battery power, invited passersby to plug it into a giant outlet just a few feet away.

Once connected, two ships at the dock instantly lit up holiday style and music began playing. 100 acrobatic dancers appeared out of three red school buses and performed a routine designed by choreographer Madeline Hoak. The dancing encouraged everyone around to join in as fake snow fell on the crowd. A jolly holiday good time was had by all.

Overview Effect! 👩‍🚀 🚀

RabCup equipped the visor of the Astronaut with video projection mapping, featuring video content that alludes to strange and whimsical intergalactic journeys.

Through a custom, live, interactive facial capture system, festival-goers become larger-than-life with their faces projected into the helmet visor three stories above, while their name simultaneously appears on the Astronaut suit’s enormous name tag.

Immersive Worlds!

Kumo-Ascend into a world above your own. Welcome to Kumo (雲) – a fully immersive, multi-sensory experience in which cloud bearers explore a dreamscape of digital, physical, and sensory installations and enter into an environment unlike any other.

From the entrance to the exit, Kumo captures the beauty of exploration, the fear of uncertainty, and the journey of life through an ethereal environment with endless interpretations. As they navigate through the alcoves, corners, and corridors of this lush cloudscape, they will discover the secret that lies within Kumo.

RabCup’s Role:

Kent and Cam of OkiDoki invited RabCup to collaborate on their immersive experience, Kumo. RabCup provided lighting, video projection, and ambient low-lying fog to accentuate the scenic and video design done by Team OkiDoki.

In the entryway, low-lying fog was used to welcome travelers through the installation. Four projectors were used to project onto the clouds along with custom lighting design to create a magical experience.

Energy City! Still going strong and ready for our team to visit and update the systems!

The Wiess Energy Hall is the most technologically-advanced exhibition on the science and technology of energy anywhere in the world.

Visitors enter the expansive 30,000 square feet exhibit — almost the size of a football field — by stepping out of the elevator onto a 21st-century offshore drilling rig. Further into the exhibit hall, a replica of a tricone rotary drill bit — fourteen feet in diameter — spins overhead.

Not far away, the Geovator takes visitors on a fantastic voyage plunging down through the museum floors into the earth, then back in time to the Cretaceous period for an attack by hungry pteranodons and a meteor strike.
The energy value chain is brought to life in “Energy City,” a 2,500-square-foot 3-D landscape representing Houston, the surrounding coastal waters, and the terrain of southeast and central Texas.

The Eagle Ford Shale Experience, a.k.a. the “EFX 3000,” beckons visitors to step aboard for a wild ride out to prime Texas shale oil and gas drilling country and down into the borehole of an oil well, made real with curved projection techniques and mechanical motion effects. Reduced to microscopic size, the craft ventures into the narrow spaces of a hydraulic micro-fracture, surrounded by seemingly massive grains of proppant. Things may get a little dodgy, but the EFX makes a safe return to the museum!

The Unconventional Hydrocarbon Revolution enlightens visitors on how shale oil and shale gas have transformed the U.S. energy picture and delves into the growing importance of renewable energy sources and experimental and cutting-edge technology happening right now — and in the future. Highlights include a detailed exploration of solar energy and wind energy, two sources in which Texas is a national leader, and various forms of ocean energy, fuel cells, geothermal energy, and fusion power.

Coachella Cryochrome 2014

Collaboration with artist, James Peterson.

RabCup chose a reverse projection mapping technic, using LED strips from below with different levels of diffusion frost.

The video was projected opposite the direction of the spinning cylinder to create sensory confusion, messing with festival goers’ sensory information, to create misinformation. Walking through this piece felt as though you were turning upside-down.
