Skamania presents a one-night-only exclusive engagement!
Two Jamaican music legends live in concert in Long Beach, California on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
Norma Fraser
Jamaican music legend, NORMA FRASER, began her splendid and praise-worthy singing career in Kingston, Jamaica in the early 1960s. Her pure-at-heart and incapable 1967 rendition of “The First Cut Is The Deepest” a 1967 monster hit written by British singer-songwriter Cat Stevens, is unsurpassed in beauty and is still an audience attractor, beloved by many worldwide.
In addition to her invaluable solo recordings, Norma has duetted with legends such as Lord Creator, Slim Smith, Lord Brynner, and Ken Boothe; working with stellar musicians Lynn Taitt and The Sheiks, Roland Alphonso, and The Skatalites. Most of her early recordings were done primarily at Studio One and Randy's, in Kingston, Jamaica.
Since relocating to Oregon, where she lives comfortably, she has worked delightfully with The Bandulus and Kingston A Go GO.
The Maytones
Vernon Buckley and Gladstone Grant, friends, and schoolmates collectively known as The Maytones, were formed in the late ‘60s in May Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica. The Maytones vast and prolific catalog of hits, includes “Loving Reggae,” “Everyday is Like a Holiday,” “Madness,” “Funny Man,” “Brown Girl,” “Preaching Love,” “Africa We Want to Go,” “Boat to Zion,” and of course, their titanic hit “Money Worries,” which was featured extensively on the world-famous Rockers Soundtrack. Even today, the song is still making cash registers ring 47 years after it was released in 1977.
As a soloist, Vernon Maytone has recorded multiple singles and albums at his elaborate home studio. He has also recorded and produced fellow musicians such as Ken Boothe, Glen Washington, Cindy Craig, and countless others the likes of
Over the ensuing years, as a soloist, Vernon has performed in California at Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Dub Club, and SkaMania.
