A wedding that made the most of every corner of Hotel Californian ✨ One of our favorite things about planning at a property like this is the ability to let each space create a different moment throughout the day!

For this Santa Barbara celebration, the couple exchanged vows on the Serena Rooftop, surrounded by the city’s iconic views, palms, and warm architectural details. From there, guests moved into the Court of Califia lawn for cocktails, where lush florals, a beautiful focal-point bar design, and the open-air courtyard created an effortless transition from ceremony to celebration 🥂

Then came the Alhambra Ballroom for dinner and dancing — a completely different atmosphere with its dramatic black & white Moroccan-inspired, grand architecture.

The colorful floral design by Santa Barbara Wedding Florist | Maxi Castillo brought the entire experience together, playing beautifully against the white buildings, palm trees, and distinctive design of the hotel 🌸

And that’s the beauty of a wedding at Hotel Californian: you don’t have to choose between an intimate courtyard, an alfresco cocktail hour, and a statement-making ballroom. The spaces can work together to tell the story of the day! 🙌

As much as I loved all the other details from our wedding, the ceremony was always what mattered most to Ryan & me. 💕 It brought us back to the reason we were there in the first place after 11 years of our relationship!

I loved the idea of a longer aisle, giving us a chance to really soak in the moment, with our family leading the way as ring bearers & flower girl. Ryan and I both walked down the aisle with our parents, and hearing our string quartet play a song I used to dance to as a little girl is a memory I’ll never forget 🥹

Including our families throughout the ceremony was incredibly important to us. My mom sang, Ryan’s mom shared a reading, and our dads brought forward the rings. We centered the ceremony around our story and personal vows, thoughtfully supported by our officiant Roxanne. We incorporated a knot-tying ritual that felt especially meaningful as we stepped into marriage together.

Just us, surrounded by the people we love most, remembering exactly why we were there! 🥂

One of the conversations I have with couples throughout the planning process is not just what they want their wedding day to look like, but how they want it to feel 🙌

For N & T, a grand entrance never felt necessary.

After cocktail hour, guests naturally found their seats, conversations continued, and the evening flowed directly into dinner. There wasn’t a formal announcement or a moment designed to draw all attention to them. Instead, the transition felt relaxed, organic, seamless, and completely aligned with the atmosphere they wanted to create.

It’s easy to get caught up in traditions simply because they’re common, but some of the best planning decisions come from taking a step back and asking whether a particular moment is actually adding value to the experience 💕
