REMINDER:
On Saturday October 19th., the City Of Los Angeles is dedicating the Music Box Steps with a ceremony and plaque, naming the site an historical landmark. I helped to write what will be permanently on the plaque and have been asked to speak at the event. The actual ceremony will start around 11:00AM at the steps.

It takes place during the 30th Annual Music Box Steps Day at Laurel And Hardy Park which is directly across from the Steps on Vendome.

I will be screening The Music Box from Billy Gilbert’s personal film print as well as Ice Cold Cocos, the Sennett short also filmed at the site. In addition, I will be bringing a replica of the Music Box crate that you can take a photograph with. Constructed by actor and dear friend Ed Bell, it was gifted to me by Ed and it is a priviledge to have it on hand for this special occasion.

As this is such a labor intensive endeavor, we won’t be meeting for our regular Hollywood Party get together but we encourage you to attend this free event.

I hope you all show up to this once in a lifetime event that honors Stan and Babe at the very location they filmed The Music Box.

The location is the intersection of Vendome and Del Monte Streets in Silver Lake. The actual address is 923-935 Vendome Street. The event runs from 11:00AM thru 4:00PM

There will be free food on hand and some sweet treats so make sure to attend. See you there!

The Boys look disappointed because we can’t officially announce it yet.

But……..

Cinecon is being honored with the first public showing of newly restored silent two reelers from 1928 starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. The titles have been approved and the official announcement will be released very soon on the Cinecon website and email blast. It’s going to be a privilege to introduce these to our audience.

I'm excited to announce that the host hotel for Cinecon 60 is the beautiful the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills!

Originally opening as the Beverly Carlton in 1948, this mid-century gem has hosted such famous faces as Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. In fact, you might recognize the hotel from “I Love Lucy,” when the building was used as a stand-in for the “Beverly Palms Hotel,” where the Ricardos and Mertzes stayed during their trip to Hollywood. Today, the hotel has been lovingly restored and is waiting to welcome our Cinecon family.

Hello everyone,

We would like to give you an update on our book on the life and work of Stan & Ollie 'A True Love Story – THE Pictorial History of Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy (Volume 1)', whose previous working title we have changed slightly before going to print and on sale, but which does not change the content of the book.

So you can expect a large-format book of over 500 pages, packed with interesting essays and information about Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy and their incredible careers, first solo and later as the comedy team - and above all: well over a thousand rare and partly unpublished photos and documents etc. in the best possible quality, as well as a DVD with mostly unpublished private recordings and behind-the-scenes material.

We are currently going through the first volume in its entirety (Volume 2 will also be funded via a Kickstarter campaign in December 2024) and making final changes and additions to individual pages and texts. Our goal is to have all the artwork and print data ready in July and then send Volume 1 to print. Depending on when the printers can start and deliver, we hope to be able to ship the books etc. from October. We will keep you informed of the exact dates.

In the meantime, if you would like to pre-order Volume 1 with the DVD for the subscription price of €119 (plus postage, which varies by country), you can do so now at [email protected] (our previous temporary email address has been switched off, so please only use this new address or [email protected]). The corresponding website www.the-pictorial-history.com with lots of information and a shop for 'A True Love Story - THE Pictorial History of Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy' is expected to go live in July 2024. We will of course let you know when that time comes.
