from my stories - this year I learned a new phrase: infodemic. It’s when too much information, including false or misleading information, fills social media and trad media during a disease outbreak. It happens during war too - because we are so desperate to find out what’s going on we become gluttons for anything we can hold onto. We’re way more likely to share something because it’s moved us or shocked us without verifying it. Doesn’t mean it isn’t true. But my colleagues working in fighting disinfo have shown right now we are being flooded with it. we’ve moved from social media to algorithmic media, and social media companies care less and less about supporting newsrooms who are regulated to not mess us about and be accurate. It means you’ll have to do the heavy lifting for curating your own media diet. Don’t rely on the algorithm. Good luck.

Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness. Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.

I heard someone say “Well there’s Mother’s Day.” Choke, spit take, cringe. First- the technical ignorance: Mother’s Day is not a National Holiday. Mothers, who work on Sundays, do not get the day off. Secondly- The societal ignorance: Only equating women with motherhood is THE ROOT FU***NG PROBLEM. 🖕🏻

🚨🚨Emergency 🚨🚨Pet food donations urgently needed for Crestline area (near Lake Arrowhead/Big Bear.)

A friend who lives in Crestline in San Bernardino mountain region reached out today asking if we can appeal to the Hera The Dog Vodka] community for help.

The situation there has become dire. The CHP has cut off all access to and from this area, the infrastructure is failing, and the residents are running out of food for themselves; as well as food for their pets.

We believe we can get permission to bring a truckload of supplies in, or at least close to the area and now we just need to fill it.

We are reaching out to larger pet food companies, but if you would like to donate pet food of any kind (dog, cat, hay) let us know. We will be setting up a drop off location in the next few days. Stay tuned.

Hey FB! How ya been? Still a burning dumpster full of diapers? Probably.

I’ve spent the last few years growing and cultivating empathy and learning about human behavior to the point where I stopped holding people accountable for their s**t cuz I can “understand” where absolutely everyone is coming from and started to believe that nothing we do is our fault and we’re all damaged and deserve unconditional love and support. Remember kids, extremes in any direction can be dangerous and detrimental. Too much empathy and you lose who you are and the boundaries that keep you safe and sane.
