“A Colored Perspective”

The title of the installation that I did for festival
I wanted to illustrate dimension and complexity by looking at how color is created as well as illustrate the age old tale of nature vs man made. Black is the container and the holder of all color and white rejects light. Inside my black box is a precious sense of sadness where beauty is born. I used plumosa fern for this installation because it is both soft, pretty, feather-like and somewhat unasumming, but also resiliant and will destroy anything in its path if it is not tamed. You will find the green fern taking over the space in little ways throughout the space.

This project ended up being very personal to me and such a reflection of all of the different aspects of who I am and what I try to put out into the world. Very proud of this work and all the beautiful loving hands that were apart of making this massive project come to life. Thank you and for being right by my side the whole time. And to

Cheers to creativity!

I had the pleasure of shining my light of creative expression with . I have been thinking a lot about what keeps me going and I realized that I’ve had to self-generate light my whole life. I thought it would be a fun expression to create my own sunny day to symbolize that I am obsessed with ballet theater sets and how they mimic magical and opulent worlds that suspend our disbelief for a short time. I wanted to play with that idea while combining a sunny time at a super bloom beach… Because I want it all! I want sand and flowers and sunlight!! And what better way to get it all than to just create it yourself.

Today is a very interesting day…
As my big body stands on this big ass rock perspective is something that comes up…
Been thinking about this a lot the idea that most if not all of this country’s problems are rooted in our inability to reconcile our history with slavery. Our constitution is a document that is only looking at the interests of white men so anything that challenges those interests or are not understood from the white male perspective are dismissed. This shows up everywhere the basis of capitalism is exploitation of something and this country built its wealth off of slave labor, but here is the gag we still low key (not so low key) think labor should be free. Minimum wage for servers but consumers tip based off of how “good” someone serves you. Or more directly for me people will pay top dollar for flowers, but heaven forbid the labor be more than the actual flower when in fact there is much more labor that gets that flower in your hand than the flower it’s self… This is coming up for me today because of the supreme courts decision to over throw roe vs wade and the disregard of women's bodies and the fact that I can’t get my business to work from the inside… while it looks great from the outside the inside is a mess. This country puts out a great front, but the insides are nasty af. Until we do the hard work of dismantling this system and the passive one percent stop looking to the left to the left for everyone else to make a change and make some sacrifices nothing is ever changing. This is the harsh reality and we are going to hell in a hand basket if we don’t pull it together real quick/ we will all prob have to suffer and lose all of our rights because we just don’t change until it’s painful enough

I mean it’s not like we can totally take the commercialization out of holidays, but we can do it with style and grace!
So we did an installation of giveaway roses in our flower studio (so all the nosey folks wondering what’s going on in our “by appointment only space” here is a peek… lol)
Swing by the for a donut (thank you for the donation and support) and then come to the flower studio and get your rose to the first 100 customers. Everyone is welcome, but it is a black holiday so if you are white take a rose for one of your black friends!

Throwback Thursday to about 2010 a photoshoot I did with
This was a time when I had already been crushed a few times, but I was so optimistic that it would work out. I was just starting I had been growing out my hair so I wore a turban (6yards of cotton that I hand tied every day and it never touched the ground). I was self conscious about my body, but didn’t want to fear the beauty that could be created with it. I didn’t think I was particularly lovable and after 10-11 years of therapy I am still single and struggle with self worth even though my outward accomplishments are grand. The irony of the more you achieve the more alone you feel, the more work you do on yourself the more you feel like an outsider. I look at myself in this photo and can see pride for who I am, a out black man, but I also see deep in my eyes the look of wanting to be excepted and loved for who I am (thinking about this in a more romantic context as i am still struggling with that).
In our ever evolving environment I just didn’t know that the world would get increasingly more toxic to the levels that it is. It is becoming more difficult to stay the course because of all of the hectic energy in the world, killing black folks, making excuses for white folks, trying to control women’s bodies when men can’t control their own. Capitalism is really highlighting the extreme of the haves and the have nots…
This photo just gave me some time to reflect and thought I would share… also I have been on the toilet for the last 26 mins and my leg is starting to fall asleep (can’t believe I just used that #) (believe that one)

The little “miracles” that came in her late 30s and early 40s were the results of “the lord will make a way” and the fact that she thinks contraception is the devils pill. She’s a survivor, she’s not gonna give up, she’s not gone stop, she gon' work harder. Why? Cause she’s a survivor. Hardly impressed. Still won't share her damn recipes. Expects excellence and nothing less. She’s tough to please, hell, she’s never pleased, but we love her regardless. She’s our nana.”

Studio notes…
A lot on my mind at the moment. Main thing is that things that trigger you are almost always a mirror. My truth is when things get difficult I really hate looking at myself because of how hard it is to really own one’s flaws. When you f**k up you have to just sit in that s**t and get comfortable no matter how bad it smells in order to actually grow… Does think she’s better than people? How does she stay humble when everything around her puts her on an isolated island of perfection, no room for mistakes, but she is suppose to be just like us… I don’t know about that. Being that i have self proclaimed to be the Beyoncé of flowers i think about her a lot. Anyway, these are my thoughts on the struggle bus today…

Another moment of feeling to be a . Because this Residencia event gave me life and I learned about a lot of new artists out of Mexico that I didn't know about. I was able to check out and their amazing textilian (yes I made up that word) sculptures, the beautiful pottery of , (her first name is Perla and she was an absolute pearl), the buttery leather cape from Sister and the stunning setup of - I loved the botanical approach to this sensory fragrance experience. And of course, no party is complete without cocktails. Thanks for having me. I felt special. +

It’s international women’s day and I wanted to take time to honor and highlight one of the most amazing ladies that I am privileged enough to have in my life, my beautiful sister Pastor Jasolyn Marlisa Cynthia Harris . The bond that connects my sister and I is one of the most beautiful things I have in my life, trying to find the words to eloquently and poetically describe this bond is very difficult for me because it is so multi dimensional and layered… I’m starting to tear up as i write this because the bond is so powerful. The way that my sister holds space for me and allows me to be my whole self is just beyond. She is my first muse… allowing my to dress and style her up in outrageous looks since we were kids. This powerful being called my sister is a healer, a teacher, a preacher, and will twerk the house down boots on dat ass. She has a way of moving thru the world in such a honest and authentic way. If you have had the pleasure of meeting my sister you are truly blessed! I just wanted to say in a very public way how much I love my sister! This is a photograph I took of her a few years ago. You know I love a margarita moment. So it was an easy yes when and asked me to whip up some floral inspired cocktails for National Margarita Day.
I named my first creation “What’s the Tea, Rosarita?” With hibiscus tea, beet juice, and fresh lime, she is quirky AND chic, so I garnished her with a rose stem shooting thru a lime peel, because she ain’t playin’.
For the more adventurous types, I give you The Piña Gardenrita starring PATRÓN Reposado for a smooth taste and a hint of oak flavor, complemented by orgeat, fresh lime juice, charred pineapple juice and pineapple mint, elevated with St~Germain Elderflower Liqueur. A mini bundle of mint, lemon verbena, sage, and chamomile blooms is your herbal inspired twist on top. Cause we all love a good smudge bundle to bless the wild night.

Shape, movement, texture, color, balance, and dimension are the ingredients for a sculpture. These are the six physical properties we use to make our works, but the magic is found in our intuition. The feeling that we get that lets us know the stem belongs here, using the ancestral knowledge that flows through our hands guiding each placement. Staying tapped in is a practice all unto itself. Feeling very present this morning after a very hectic and emotional Valentine’s Day. I hope this post finds you well or at least gives you the chance to see the miracle that is nature. Self Love is the Best Love 2021
As says “if you can’t love yourself how the hell you gonna love anybody else…” One of my major guiding principles. Loving myself and all of its beauty and imperfections is a true journey and this portrait that I took of my friend made us both a lil uncomfortable and that’s when I knew I was onto something. There is beauty everywhere if you just bother to open your eyes and see it.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner all the talk about love stresses me out cause romantic love hasn’t been my strong suit, however it gives me time to reflect on my love for myself. I was asked to create an arrangement for YouTube that embodied some aspect of my black experience and I immediately thought about Ms. Marsha P. Johnson. A women who truly paved a way for me to exist as a gay man in this country. Not to mention she did it boldly, with style, grace and often with floral adornments.
