Thank you for showing us so much love and encouragement We are on the road of becoming. The phrase “knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted” is brought at the forefront; we reflect on the anonymity of our project and the hands behind the curtains because it has taken a village for this project to exist. To be able to exhibit these objects that have traveled two thousand miles has inevitably humbled us all. They will continue to tell us that we are wasting our time, but we are more united than ever.

“The devil is often described as an evil being who torments people who behave badly. The concept of the devil was not originally known to indigenous people. Our contact with the devil was imposed upon us when colonial principles and religiosity introduced the devil to demonize and demoralize our own beliefs, gods, and practices. Now, in our popular culture, we use the devil as parody to make fun of western civilization and the colonial mindset.

The idea of creating a devil mezcalero comes with an implicit message. When we drink mezcal, we do mischief and it is we who in turn become the devil. The being that instead of punishing, loses fear and concealment and becomes who they really are. In other words, we are the devil inside us.” Words by Juan Rodriguez of .ceramica

Next Saturday December 9th, join Yalala at the Highland Park Craft Fair , a residential mercado highlighting Indigenous and local vendors.

Yalala’s mission is to preserve, promote, and disseminate the rich traditions of Indigenous ceramicists from Oaxaca, Mexico. Our roster of artists reveal the dedication and ancestral knowledge required to reflect the cultural identity and beauty of ceramics. They do so by creating “ancient” pottery through inherited knowledge of identifying minerals in soils, foraging clay from nature to make into materials, and creating homemade kilns.

Jesus Garcia imports his mother’s Irma Garcia’s cacao chocolate for beverages. This style of hot chocolate is a traditional custom for festivities in Tlacocula Oaxaca. A recipe that is made in large quantities for sharing with family and guests. Stay warm with a cup of oaxacan style hot chocolate, now available for purchase on our website.

One Hot Minute is a Peruvian and Chinese fusion pop-up, based in Los Angeles. Their goal is to create a community of people who are passionate about reducing their meat consumption, while still being able to eat delicious food.
