Sending my condolences out to all the Brenton Wood Fans and especially to Brenton's son Brandon Smith who I have not seen since the mid 90’s and must be about 45 years old now.
I remember their golden retriever Charlie, who had more energy than all of us!
Below are photos from my early days managing Brenton Wood circa 1990.
We started at the Montebello Inn and worked our way up to many sold out shows at large venues(Pacific Amphitheater, Olympic Auditorium, Greek Theater) and others. It was an exciting time for both of us.
Brenton and I accomplished a lot together over 4-5 years including recording an entire album titled “Thats The Deal” on Beck Wood Records as well recording other singles like the remake of "Beautiful People”, a duet
with MC Blvd in 1994 which became a true classic and appears on the Original “I Remember You Homie” Cd
I have many pictures and stories and memories managing Brenton which remain part of my history in the music business.
When I met Brenton in 1989, he had not been performing on the big stage for several years nor had he been in the recording studio ....two areas of his life he wanted back. And I made sure those two wishes came true.
Without question, he was an important part of my early career into the Latin Oldies market and I was an important part of his comeback in the 90’s.

Between Art Laboe playing his music, Brenton never abandoning what he loved doing, and my promoting Brenton in front of thousands of fans….his career re-emerged with huge popularity and never waned.
Even though Brenton and I parted ways around 1995 and never reunited,(although I tried around 2010)…. I always wished him well and I am sad to hear of his passing and I feel bad that we never had the chance to reconnect.
But as we all know, things in life don’t always work out the way we hope for…but remembering all the best things in a person and taking the higher road in life leaves you with a smile and with good memories…. and the one thing I can tell you , we had some great times!!!!
RIP Alfred Jessie Smith….aka Brenton Wood aka B Dawg!!! That's was the nickname I gave him in the studio. He loved that 🙂
And thanks for the memories.
