Something big is coming, and we can’t wait to share it with you…
A pair of Dorothy’s ruby slippers is going up for auction tomorrow! The shoes, designed by Costume Designer Gilbert Adrian, were purchased as plain white silk pumps from the Innes Shoe Company, and brought to Western Costume shoe maker Joe Napoli. Napoli dyed the shoes and carefully applied over 2,300 sequins per shoe.
When Napoli painstakingly sewed each sequin onto the slippers in 1938, he had no way of knowing the historical significance his labor would hold decades later.
Western Costume Company is proud to be part of the story of these incredible shoes, and more than 85 years after the release of The Wizard of Oz, we remain as dedicated as ever to crafting the costumes that bring stories to life. ❤️✨
