Backstage Bytes: The Real-Life Journey Behind Murder on the Orient Express

Did you know Agatha Christie’s famous Murder on the Orient Express was inspired by her own adventure on the train? In 1931, she was stranded for 24 hours when flooding in Turkey washed away part of the tracks. This real-life experience gave Christie the idea for her novel’s plot, where the train is stuck in a snowdrift, trapping the passengers and setting the stage for one of the most legendary murder mysteries ever told. This firsthand experience added authenticity and suspense, making it a timeless classic that’s just as thrilling on stage as it is on the page.
