I (Sherry) got away to spend some relaxing family time in beautiful South Haven, Michican, a couple of weeks ago. The landscapes were stunning! We went sailing, puzzled together and enjoyed local produce from the farmers market in Holland, Michigan. I'm grateful for time away to recharge and make memories with my family!

When a seven-time James Beard Award nominee asks you to cater a special occasion for her family, you say yes!
It was an honor to cook for Chef Kathy Cary and her guests. This Tomatillo Soup is Kathy's recipe. It's a perfect summer soup served chilled or room temperature. It's garnished with avocado, sour cream and cilantro oil.
Thank you, Kathy, for all you have done over the years to support the farm-to-table movement, and for including us in your family's event. It was an honor!
It's the most wonderful time of the year!

I just wanted to pop in to say hello in case you're new around here!
My name is Sherry Hurley, and I founded Farm to Fork Catering in 2008. I grew up on Kentucky Lake in rural Western Kentucky where my family tended a large summer garden and gathered at the table every night for a home-cooked meal.
That experience made me passionate about Kentucky, locally sourced ingredients, creating surprise and delight when people try our simple but delicious food. My wonderful team and I love making people feel at home through warm Southern hospitality.

It takes many hands to cater events and even more during Derby week. We are so grateful for everyone who played a part in Derby 150! This year's epic team included veteran and former employees, long time event staff, new team members, friends, spouses, and one of our moms! Our Derby team collectively put in hundreds of hours to provide delicious food, excellent beverages, and hospitality to over 600 guests in a 3-day period. Amazing!
*Special shout out to Sara and her daughter for keeping us nourished by delivering healthy lunch on two of our longest days of prep.
We kicked off Derby week with a Welcome Dinner for out of town guests at the Waterfront Botanical Gardens featuring gorgeous linens and place settings by In Good Company.
๐ธ We created a fun twist on a traditional wedge salad, by substituting gem lettuce wedges, roasted corn, cherry tomatoes, radishes and a tahini green goddess dressing.
๐ธ The main course was a Southern play on surf and turf with beef tenderloin from Black Hawk Farms featuring a signature bourbon steak sauce, Barr Farms local asparagus, Weisenberger Mill grits and succotash.
๐ธ Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with Angel's Envy Rye Whiskey whipped cream and raspberry coulis.
It was a beautiful evening we were grateful to be a part of!
So much delight in one pretty bite! These flavorful little beauties are Shrimp Remoulade on Endive with a Pea Shoot. They are a perfect passed app for any spring event!

We posted about Ramps (wild spring onions) a couple of weeks ago and sent out a newsletter that has a recipe that calls for ramps. Foxhollow Farm may be sold out. However, Rootbound Farm will have the last harvest tomorrow at Douglass Loop Farmers Market
Get them before they are gone!
Also, word on the street is that local strawberries and asparagus are now available at Douglass Loop Farmers Market and Bardstown Road Farmers Market
Happy Spring Eating!
Love this time of year when the whole city is buzzing in preparation for Derby festivities! Our kitchen has been buzzing, too! Can't wait to serve hundreds of our Signature Country Ham, Pepper Jelly, Pimento Cheese Biscuits and Bourbon Brownies next week!

Thank you so much to Foxhollow Farm for having the Farm to Fork team out for a ramp harvesting hike yesterday morning. The waterfalls were rushing from all the rain, and it was a beautiful morning of enjoying the beauty of our Kentucky landscape.
We have big plans for our ramps including pickling the bulbs just in time for Derby charcuterie grazing stations and using the leaves to make ramp pesto and ramp compound butter.
If you're not familiar with ramps, they are a type of wild allium that are similar to spring onions and leeks. They have a garlicky onion flavor. They grow in the spring in wooded areas in America throughout the Northeast, South and Midwest. They thrive in rocky woodland soils and shady, wet environments.
If you find some to harvest, consider leaving some of the bulbs in the ground so they can grow back next year!

This gem of a find on my (Sherry) recent East Coast trip deserves its own appreciation post! We stumbled upon this fabulous woman-owned butcher shop and restaurant called Romaโs Butchery in South Royalton, Vermont. Ironically, we had vegetarian meals, but they were delightful! I had the BEST roasted vegetable sandwich and my friend had the mushroom toast. Check it out if you ever find yourself in the area!
We recently discovered Barnes Farms and Milling Company's fabulous products like this Blue Claridge Stone Ground Cornmeal. We met them at the Organic Association of Kentucky conference. We've been sampling their products and love them! They are from Salem, Kentucky, where they grow and mill the best quality heirloom and ancient grains. Check them out!
I (Sherry) recently snuck away for a long weekend to Boston and Vermont to visit one of my dearest friends. We had the best time checking out some local attractions and - of course - local eats! We visited the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, hello Monet! And the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, which was beautiful. In Vermont, we visited the King Arthur Baking Company flagship campus. It was as amazing and overwhelming as you would think it would be with its bakery, cafe, and retail store. The botanical thumbprint cookies were delish! I am grateful for this special time with my friend before the spring catering madness really begins!
We hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather in their green today! We do our best to be green all year long as sustainability is important to our company values! We use eco-friendly materials such as these pressed-palm serving trays when the occasion calls for disposables.
Happy St. Patrick's Day! ๐๐

Being a farmer or a caterer is an all-weather job! We began making rounds earlier this week picking up the goods for the Organic Association of Kentucky's (OAK) Annual Farming Conference! I (Sherry) picked up a carload of butternut squash from Ann at Elmwood Stock Farm for a 3-cheese butternut squash pasta we will serve conference attendees! โ๏ธโ๏ธ

Summer 2023, you were a dream. Thankful for the time away to experience the beauty of the northeast on a road trip with my husband. The journey was filled with natural beauty, great food, and wonderful friends. I got to sneak in a trip to Florida to visit my mom, too. We are recharged and ready for fall events! Let's go!
If you're near Harlan, Kentucky, you must make a stop at Harlan County Beer Company. It's the first legal brewery in Harlan County. It's housed in a beautifully-restored 100-year-old historic building on the courthouse square in downtown Harlan. They are serving up high-quality beer and delicious, locally-inspired food, so make sure you pay them a visit! Also, check out Moonbow Tipple Coffee & Sweets while you're there! I didn't get as many photos, but it is equally amazing! Harlan County Beer Company Moonbow Tipple Coffee & Sweets
